Started playing this (it's free on game pass) due to this stream

@brad you should know that if you put a generator and its fuel on the same structure (meaning whatever storage modules + tables you want to snap together) then the generators will help themselves. It's way easier to plop a medium storage with 8 organics onto generator table vs. manually loading 8 small generators. You may also want to stick some small wind turbines on the empty slots on the shelter.

Actually this works for other machines too but particularly convenient for generators.

You should also look into the larger storages (they are meant to be combined with the medium storage).
Also you're basically at the point where you should consider going to the moon / other planets to get resource types that aren't available on the first planet.

Guess what I did when I realized that the telephone jacks in my apartment were wired up to 2 strands of a cat-6 cable

I'm finding it quite hard to keep track of what's in my hand / coming up while also dealing with movement. I rarely ever use the shuffle so I'm definitely still playing like a beginner.

Though I did eventually find that slowing down a bit works most of the time because the enemies don't attack quite as fast as one might think (some exceptions). Some of the bosses completely wreck me though.

The way one goes through doors in this game is weird, right?

Should I be doing that turn-around in real life?

@gundato: I don't think you need slugs to underclock things? You do need to progress enough to open the efficiency panel (which they just reached by the end of this video).

EDIT: I was somewhat mistaken (loaded up the game to check). You have to research "overclocking" (which takes one slug plus some more resources) before you can underclock anything. So they were not quite at that point yet (apparently now one has to build the MAM separately too). But you can then underclock machines & the burners without using a slug. Seems like the math still works out such that this can let you stretch your biomass a lot further.

EDIT 2: Played around with it more. I'm not sure whether this was changed, or whether I just misunderstood it last time I played. Underclocking burners does increase the "burn time" displayed on the panel, but the *real* burn time apparently scales with the actual usage anyway. IOW you don't need to underclock those because the game won't penalize you for power over-capacity anyway (like a "smart grid").

I did prefer to put everything on one grid and underclock lower-priority machines. That way I could have longer periods between needing to refill any biomass (and the stacks of solid biofuel were lasting for hours). This fit my playstyle of going exploring for long stretches.

@gundato: Maybe the game has changed since I last played it. I remember finding it way easier to have one grid and just use the efficiency panel to keep power production in line (including adjusting the power producers to avoid wasting fuel). Maybe underclocking was rebalanced or something since then. That approach does require a bit of mental math / attentive double-checking to know whether attaching the next machine is going to blow the fuse, but nothing too crazy. And it gives you the flexibility to overclock whatever without needing to rewire stuff.

What you're saying about preventing one mistake from taking out everything makes sense. And definitely applies in the real world. Though in this vid things weren't really planned that way and the one circuit had way more machines on it, luckily when that caused a problem it got rewired pretty quickly.

ahhh i hope they fix the power grid issue. The two generators should be feeding the same overall grid instead of separate circuits.

EDIT: oh good, Brad noticed it before the end and they fixed it
