@onemanarmyy: I wonder if this thread got bumped by a spam bot or something

Anyway this could probably be locked...the original conversation had run its course, and even as an optimist I can't see this heading in a good direction.

There was a time when I got slow speeds except when I was on VPN. Suggesting some friction between Comcast IPs and the CDN used by GB.

However this has fixed itself for me.

Anyway if you have access to a VPN maybe give that a try (I'm in CA and got better speeds when I specified servers in TX)

(this is not a review; somewhat unstructured thoughts)

I very much enjoyed this game. Though at the same time I totally get why those wanting an "old-school" RPG Paper Mario would be disappointed. The battle system & overall "loop" are very much a "either you like this style or you don't" kind of thing. For myself, I liked the puzzle-ish nature of the battles, as well as the large variety of origami versions of classic Mario enemies. And of course the boss battles were great and very unique---somehow the ridiculousness of the premise didn't wear out its welcome. I did notice that the ways Mario eviscerates most of these bosses are particularly savage (if one imagines them mapped onto a humanoid enemy that is).

The game is outstanding aesthetics-wise. I sort of doubt it will happen but amiibo based on some of the origami stuff in this game would look amazing (e.g. a Paper Macho Shy Guy that lights up from the inside). The various environments were always cool to look at / explore.

I think folks could agree that the music in this game is bopping. They do some great stuff with the battle theme variations, as well as the hub town music evolving as you progress. Pretty early in the game we hear "Graffiti Underground" (listen to it below) which I really dug. I also loved the battle theme that happens for ocean battles.

I personally also enjoyed the writing here. There's a fairly consistent tongue-in-cheek tone throughout. But there are also some surprisingly serious moments in the story too, and overall it kept up a satisfying pace. The ending could be criticized as being a little too straightforward, however...and the big bad's motivation is really quite underwhelming IMHO.

It's worth noting that there isn't a lot to this game challenge-wise. If you enjoy the puzzles then you can set yourself the challenge of solving them perfectly without time extension / toad assist (and/or try to set speed records against the bosses). But healing items, accessories, coins, and even the weapons-with-durability are all showered on you in copious amounts such that you generally wouldn't hit any difficult walls.

@frytup: Which is why asking on the GB forums is a reasonable thing to do

Having to watch a video is not a great solution to the problem of trying to figure out whether or not the title is clickbaiting you into watching it.

One might even accuse the video series itself of being more of a troll (like Kingdom Heartache) than asking a question about it.

It definitely looks cool and somewhat up my alley; thanks for mentioning it here or I probably wouldn't have seen it. Though I probably won't pick it up right now (I'm being all adult-like and following a budget) I'll definitely give it a look eventually!

This video was pretty great. He broke the game in plenty of ways that I wouldn't have thought of. TBH the dynamite thing is the least interesting part.

"relatable" doesn't strike me as anything I'm looking for from a JRPG story.

I've never punted a tank in real life.

Tough choice since I approached it from the angle that any of these actually could be done well (meaning contribute positively to making a compelling game experience) in theory.

Hit sponge is probably the one most often done poorly as a quick way to make progress harder. But having to pull out all the stops to vanquish a meaty foe can make for a great moment.

I voted for "Raw Reactions"...outside of rhythm games it's just not what I'm looking for. I don't mind it if they don't lead to immediate fails (e.g. you lose some health, or there's a bonus for the tightest window etc.)

The audio wasn't perfect but IMHO it wasn't unwatchable by any means (it's not like the skateboard thing was for all or even most of the video...) and it gave a pretty good look at what the game is. Personally, I don't really expect much more than that from QLs.

So anyway all that to say I found it a worthwhile watch but if GB wants to remove it that's obviously their call to do. Hopefully there will be a patch and maybe it'll show up in some other content some other day.
