I just wanted to say I enjoy the additional viewpoint Abby brings to the conversation. I don't know if it was a conscious effort or not but I could definitely feel the improvement in her ability to vocalize her opinion.

I noticed it quite a bit on the first video as well. I dunno if she's just been presenting a lot more or playing more or whatever, but her desciptions of the games she only played this year have really interested me in checking them out, where last year is was more just the same five phrases over and over. Which is a bummer when the discussion of god of war came up because I wanted to hear a more robust dialog about why that game has issues than what we got.

"I don't fucking care" isn't a great response to open a dialogue with someone questioning your opinion.

I wanted more discussion about it because I totally get the whole trope aspect of it, and generally agree. I think Freya is sort of being used as an analog to compare to how Kratos deals with Boy. I saw her as the parental figure first and being a woman second, but yeah the ending was...a misstep. If the dwarves were fraternal twins or something or there were just more characters that weren't like...bog witches and valkyries, that would be fine by me.

But I agree her response was...I dunno, disappointing I guess? Brad does the same things with his opinions sometimes, where he debates about games in a way that is super dismissive of other people's experiences. Inclusivity is important but not just as a token gesture and not just for statistics. If you wanna say "Hey norse mythology is from a time when woman were painted in a bad light, and maybe modernising some of these concepts for a game would be cool." Then I wholeheartedly agree with you.

This is of course a pretty third rail topic on the internet. And saying "Why can't we all just get along" ain't going to cut it. But saying you don't fucking care about someone else's perspective is just as counterproductive as saying its just a story and she should get over it. Both of those things are complicated issues and games both improve and show their shortcomings at these sorts of issues.

Unsurprisingly, it looks gorgeous. However, between me being primarily a pc gamer and my general unease about supporting very obvious crunch heavy games (a personal choice, obviously the folks did a spectacular job here) I dunno when I might ever play this. Presumably the PC version will drop sometime next year if history repeats itself.

Very cool, but sadly there's no way for me to know who signs for packages at my place at any given day.

With FedEx you can request that a delivery be held at a local FedEx store. The same is possible with UPS.

Oooh, I didn't know that. Very cool!

This is such a bummer. I held off on Battlefront 1 since it was sparse and I didn't have a ton of time for gaming when it released. BF2 looks like they added more, but in all the wrong places. I feel bad for all the folks working hard on this. They will probably figure things out in a month, but much like Andromeda, that's gonna be way too late for any attention to remain. And if they try and shoehorn micro transactions back in...man, this could crash hard. I just wanted Battlefield 2142 with Star Wars trappings. Was that so hard?!? Oh well, maybe when its 30 bucks if they haven't put the pay to win stuff back in by then/haven't fixed any of this.

I miss Battlefield 2. I feel about DICE like Jeff feels about Turn10 it seems. I love their earlier stuff, some of my favorite game experiences ever, and the new stuff is gorgeous, but they've lost their way somewhere. The beta feels like a mess. Not in execution, but in design. It's beautiful and sounds amazing, but the gameplay elements feel not as good as Battlefield 1, and the balance of classes and unlocks feels all over the place. This may very well be mitigated by future patches and expansions, but I don't think I will be picking this up, which is a bummer.

Phew, that log line is doozy! Thanks Dan for the review, and apparently for picking up where Alex left off.
