@aegon: The organisation was founded by moderators for the trump subreddit which is a kind of cesspool. And that's what he wanted to see more of. He would have been fully aware of the racism/sexism or at least the perception of racism/sexism that place has. He knew what he was getting in to.

Please show examples of racism/sexism.

This is a pretty good writeup. Don't click that link if you're in any way susceptible to any type of triggers, they're all in there.

@rangers517: The game's not out for another 4 months. I'd say the proper time to judge EA's decision to add this mode will depend on what the rest of the additions look like when the game is released in September.

Embed With is brilliant and maybe I just don't follow the right sites or writers but after reading through that series I was flabbergasted that we don't see more of that kind of writing.

Embed With is so good. Man, just the idea that we won't get any more of that type of writing about games sucks.

I'll go through and add some people when I get home. Not sure who I'm maining, but I've messed around a bit with Liu Kang and Kung Jin so far, so it might be one of those dudes.

@foggen: Gender is a social construct, so Samantha Kalman is a woman and Scarlett is a woman. If you wish to look at one woman's success in a field as a gain for women as a whole in that field, then you absolutely have to look at their successes as an unqualified gain for women in video games. Speculating on the specifics of their childhood and gender identities and how that affected the skills they have now seems like a really strange, slightly creepy thing to do. So maybe we shouldn't do that.

This is starting to look like an excuse to post gamergate shit without getting your thread locked.

Yeah, even if that isn't the intention, this whole thing seems so incredibly minor. Everyone who purchased the game already has access to it through another service, correct? I can't imagine what kind of genuine concern people who spent 2 bucks on the DRM-free version of the game have that they won't get a Steam version of the game. Sounds like a waste of time on the developer's part, a waste of outrage on GamerGate's part and a waste of a thread on these forums.

@russman588:

This is insane. Why are we comparing scientific evidence of the moon landing to someone (who claims they went to journalism school all the time) taking their friend's word on an issue even though it's very clear that it's questionable ethics? If he had just recused himself, everything would have been fine. Instead he talks about how his biased side of an issue is clearly true without bothering to investigate any of it, declares the issue closed, then posts links to clearly biased blogs like they're going to persuade anyone. So no, your analogy absolutely does not hold up.

If you want to compare this honestly, I would say this is closer to saying that there were WMDs in Iraq because your good friend told you there were.

You and I are going to disagree on the "very clear that it's questionable ethics" side of things. Because there is one instance of potentially questionable ethics that's been addressed by a trustworthy person in this whole thing, and it doesn't involve Quinn. Everything else is (and has been) very easily debunked. Patrick does not need to take his friend's word on an issue in this case. All he needs to do is read one of many other accounts from reasonable people on the internet (the "clearly biased blogs" you're talking about). The most noteworthy people that I've seen disagree with those accounts are a homophobe, a racist, and a guy who associates with a racist.

I had a more detailed reply ready before the thread got temporarily locked and I couldn't post it, so I'll just ask a question. What do you mean, specifically, when you say Totilo could have "taken solutions to remove (Grayson) completely from the matter"?

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but it seems pretty accurate to me. Do you have an actual argument against what I said?

Regarding the imgur link, do you think that people who state that the moon landing was fake should be given equal, unbiased coverage by reporters? If that is what you think, and that anyone who disagrees with you is "going on like Rush Limbaugh about Truthiness" then by all means continue to hold that viewpoint and shout it from the rooftops. I'm sure you'll garner much respect from all sorts of reasonable people who will be happy to tell you all about the chemtrails in their backyard.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to be seeing on page 2 of Patrick's tumblr, BTW.

Patrick goes on like Rush Limbaugh about Truthiness and how anybody who plays video games is a right wing nutjob who hates women.

This is an accurate, reasonable interpretation of things that Patrick has written and said.
