The first Guitar Hero game was the start of a trend, that can't be denied. With trends come clones and otherwise complete failures as the trend continues. Although this does indeed suck trends become trends for a reason because "something" went right. Guitar Hero had something. I remember first playing it before I started my first real job. I was working for my good friend's family as they did private contracting on road work. I stopped by his house at 6 am because they were going to give me a lift to the site as I couldn't drive at the time. While waiting my friend asked if I wanted to play this strange game. Cautious, I picked up a plastic guitar, was directed by my friend to try smoke on the water, and horribly made my way through the song... and had a blast. I ended up buying the game and showed my friends. We played it constantly, watching each other playing it, huddled around the living room. We could play for hours with one guitar. When we got a second one shit went crazy and we had even more fun. Something obviously went right with the first game considering now if you were given a music game with only covers, a lackluster multiplayer and under 50 songs you'd never give it a chance.
For many, including myself, Elder Scrolls IV was their first adventure into the world of Tamriel (if I remember correctly). What a marvel to play this game it was. My first experience with it was before I bought a 360 (i wasn't sure yet). My best friend got one for Christmas and soon bought oblivion as well. When he would let me, or when he would go to sleep, I would stay awake to play my own character. Nevertheless, either watching or playing, we were all enthralled by the world we were exploring. Galloping horseback, summoning golems, fighting a horde of demons, shooting a skeleton yards away with a bow, sneaking up on unsuspecting enemies to slay them, robbing people in the night. You could do all these things, some of these things, or completely different things. How you played the game was up to you. I cannot wait until the mindblowing f*** fest that will be Elder Scrolls V: Awesomness comes out.
