There's a first time for everything...

After the touching final game at "the house that Ruth built," (in which I shed more than a few tears, after-all, Yankee stadium was and will forever be a LARGE part of my life) the New York Yankees are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Not only is this the first time in fourteen years that the Bronx Bombers will not be making a playoff appearance, it is the first time in my entire life that I will be watching a post-season without my home-town team. (I have been watching baseball since 1996, the second year of the Yankees 14-year streak.)

How to take this? I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad, we did have a season plagued with numerous injuries to our best players, a terribly cold battling line-up, and a pitching rotation that is not only bad, but has never remained the same for more than a couple weeks. Frankly, we didn't play like a team that deserved to be in the playoffs. Hopefully next year will be more solid, and we will have players who are able to make it the entire season without being out for more then a month at a time.

Good luck to the teams that did make the playoffs, and please somebody beat the Rays and the Red Sox.

Finished: The Force Unleashed

Amazing game. I'm sorry to anyone who doesn't like it, I really am, but you are out of your mind. I waited the entire game for the "bad parts" to come, but they didn't. And when I felt I was nearing the end of the game, I didn't want to continue further so that I could savor the experience for as long as possible. The ONLY gripe I have, is that the Star Destroyer portion of the game was decidedly LESS awesome because of all of the TIE fighters. Review to come soon guys. I'll try to keep my tilt to a minimum but I am a massive Star Wars geek.

And now I play the waiting game..

Well now that my college refund is late, I have no option but to sit and wait before I get the money that will enable me to buy my first desktop in 6 years. Since then I've been using a crap-tacular laptop that severly limits my PC gaming capabilities, but no longer. I have my sights set on a Dell XPS 630 with a Core 2 3.16 gHz processor, 4gb of RAM, 500gb of hard drive space, and a nVidia GeForce GTX 280 with 1gb of video memory. I think this rig could handle Far Cry 2, which is a game I am massively anticipating. I also really want to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and LotRO. What do you guys think? Sound good?

On another note, I feel that I am nearing the end of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and should have my first official GiantBomb review soon. I am STILL enjoying TFU, as I knew I would. I'm trying to take my time with that game because I want to savor the experience for as long as possible.

The Force Unleashed: First Impressions

So today I bought Star Wars: The Force Unleashed after I got out of work, and immediately started off on my most anticipated game of this year. The first level where you play as Vader was insane, the amount of destruction you can cause with light taps on buttons was ridiculous. Here's to hoping that the apprentice will get that powerful down the line. The cinematic presentation and the voice-overs from the main cast are spectacular! This game really feels like a movie bridging the two trilogies. One of my favorite things about this game is that they used an actor as the reference for Starkiller's looks and for his voice, it really upped the production value for this game and makes it feel that much more real. So far the story is good and only looks like it can only get better down the line. The characters are all believable, and they all feel like they belong (none of the characters feel like the story could be better off without them.)

When you first get a hold of the apprentice however, his repertoire of  powers and combos is underwhelming. I figured he'd at least have SOME of the same powers from the demo, but I'm not complaining, because you unlock them all pretty quick. The gameplay is, as some would say, shallow. However it's more than enough for me, anyone that isn't having fun in this game is either not a Star Wars fan, or they prefer games like Animal Crossing or Nintendogs.

While this game does have some flaws (like the loading screen every time you want to upgrade skills,) it is more than enough to sate the hunger I have had for a good Star Wars game since I finish Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords.

An actual blog, and not just some excuse for not writing a blog.

Allright guys lemme just give you a little insight as to whats been going on lately. I have had a VERY tight schedule as of late, with most days being completely taken up by either work or school. Since deciding to become a commuter and keep my current job at the same time, I have had to sacrifice alot of time I used to use for gaming. I work usually from 10am (about my normal wake-up time) to 7pm (about dinner time) three days a week. So that pretty much takes up that entire day, giving me about 5 hours afterwards to watch TV, catch up on sports happenings, video games, etc. And school is a bit worse; I wake up at 10am to catch a 10:42am train to Pleasantville (about 1hr drive from my house) and I'm at school for around 9 hours. So I catch a 9:30pm train home which sees me walking in my front door at about 11pm. And that is also three days a week. As you can see, I have very little time for the things I used to enjoy in excess. Fortunately this is only for one semester as I will be transferring to a school in my area in the spring.

However, the train ride does afford me time that I used to never have to really enjoy handheld games. Which is why I recently picked up Monster Hunter: Freedom for the PSP. I have yet to start the game so I was just wondering if any of you had played it and if so, how did you like it?

Another recent change in my life is my newfound sense of honesty regarding music. I used to be a purely "download from limewire type of guy" but my recent change of heart has lead me to buying albums. However, I am not completely honest at this point as I am only shelling out money for albums from my favorite artists. The other day I bought "As Daylight Dies" by Killswitch Engage, and "Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild" by cKy; the only two albums of all time that I have loved every single track of. In time, I hope to increase my collection of legitimately purchased music and decrease my collection of downloaded music.

On some more video-game-blog-related matter, I recently purchased Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and have to say I am loving it. This game feels like an Indiana Jones movie, and it really does a great job of capturing that treasure hunter feel. I also really want to get into WoW, because I adore that game, but every single time I log on I find an entire area filled with people who don't care at all to help me with quests, so it defeats the purpose of the game and I log off. Someone create a Horde character on Bleeding Hollow and help me out!

For anyone who read my review on Gamespot of Bioshock, you would know that I hated it. So it might come as some surprise to you that I am really wanting to purchase it when it comes out for PS3 and give it another shot. I re-read reviews on Gamespot, Ign, and Metacritic and realized that I may have not been playing the game in the right mentality. I do whole-heartedly agree that the story was very good, and the atmosphere and dialouge in the game was top-notch. My gripe with the game fell in the fact that you never seemed to have enough ammo to do anything, as I always felt that I ran out when I needed it most. (and I hardly ever used the plasmids)

Little bit of a repeation..

I'm not sure what was going on last week.. pretty much anytime I did anything on the site I got some Luchadeer error. I was really just trying to plug my sports blog I opened up, and explain how its not in any way a threat to my giantbomb blog. This ones for games, that ones for sports. So incase you didn't see it (as I suspect) here is the link to my sports blog.

In video game news, I've been playing quite a bit of WoW. Despite how far I got with my human paladin, I just missed the Horde Bad-Assery too much to stay away. I play a Orc Warrior on Bleeding Hollow now, so if any WoW-heads out there want to gimme a shout etc.! I also just bought Assassin's Creed for the PS3 today. I loved this game when I played it for my 360, and since I sold all that stuff I bought it again for PS3 because its a game I just feel should be in my collection. I am giving it another play through though. (That looks weird when you read it huh?)

Have a good one guys

HOLY ****ING SHIT

I just played the Force Unleashed demo. I had goosebumps everywhere. Not only is the game INCREDIBLY AMAZING. With all the new engines, amazing graphics, and just kick-ass gameplay. But the story looks like its going to be WAY RAD. Oh man oh man. I haven't been this excited for a game since... well actually not that long ago. But THIS TIME ITS STAR WARS!!!

Oh and I got Madden the other day too. Its good, but shit man I just played the demo of my most anticipated game this year, maybe all time.

(Note: Yes Metal Gear is my favorite video game series, but I was not anticipating playing Snake's last mission. :( )

Why I don't miss Gamespot.

- The user soapbox: This is my number one reason. Most of the shit in the user soapbox is just trash. 50% of the time the stuff that gets into it is just someone kissing Gamespot's ass and the blog automatically being posted into the soapbox. Otherwise, its the same garbage about the "death" of something or other or some stupid industry related thing that anyone who is actually into gaming doesn't give a shit about.

-The staff: It just sucks. In a matter of days Gamespot went from one of the most well-staffed (not to mention the most well-LIKED staff) video game websites and transformed into a huge waste bin of people who have no camera presence and a shitty understanding of games. Which leads directlly into my next reason...

-The reviews: Are all garbage, and not one of them can be trusted to actually give you a good understanding of the game. I love IGN's reviews, considering i pretty much agree with every single one of them and they're always just spot-on. Giantbomb''s system is great because it tells you flat-out if you will enjoy a game or not. 1-2 stars? Stay away. 3 stars? depends on how you feel about the subject matter, etc. 4-5 stars? You will have a GOOD TIME. Thats ALL I CARE ABOUT when I'm looking for games, if I will have a good time or not. I don't care if you think it is the next masterpiece, or the best game to ever come across your desk, all I want to know is how much fun I will have playing it.

-The level system and the badges: Although Giantbomb sort of has the same thing with points, it serves a purpose. It allows the truly trust-worhy people to help out the site by allowing them to have immediate edits. Cool idea. However, a video game website should NOT be made into a game itself with people going crazy and trying to get all the "easy" badges and shit and posting a blog every time they gain a level. I seriously don't give a shit that you gained a level, thanks for wasting my time with your worthless blog.

Thank you Giantbomb for giving us a truly GOOD video game website.

Serious stuff going on

Hey guys, how's it going? Mhm. Terrible, thanks for asking.

I just broke up with my girlfriend of 3 years for a reason I myself don't fully understand. I feel like the biggest asshole currently. However, this week marks the second week of my new job. Yeah, I'm just a photo-tech at the local wal-mart but the money is more than enough to handle the cost of my next announcement. I decided instead of living on campus I'm going to commute to my school. Mind you I live about 45 mins away from it so thats about 4 and a half hours of driving a week, but I'm saving ten THOUSAND dollars this year not paying for room and board. Worth it? You decide.

I know this is a gaming blog, but honestly I haven't been able to get much gaming done lately. Any time I get to game I just go for some quick bursts with MLB 08 The Show or NBA 2K8. Not much to tell.

Keep it real guys,

Some new purchases

Finally decided to get myself some new games! I've been really looking forward to purchasing these two, and I'm glad I finally decided to splurge. I picked up Resistance: Fall of Man and Warhawk (with the headset). I was really looking forward to playing Resistance and I've heard alot of praise for it. Hopefully I enjoy it. Warhawk looks like alot of fun, and it was something I felt I needed because I have no games I play online for my PS3 yet, so hopefully this fills the void I've been feeling. Leave some comments and tell me what you think about these games!
