I think they should do Double Dragon 2 (NES) next. Great classic 2 player game, starts off easy but has multiple instant death jumping sections that are sure to cause lots of great material. Also coincides with that sequel coming out soon I guess?
"This game's kinda great. Any game that can make me feel like this; just nervous and twitchy like this, it's doing something right.
And that, my friends, is why having limited lives and continues is a legit design decision. A thousand people posting that old NES games like Contra are cheap and designed like arcade games meant to kill you and steal your quarters and you should just cheat because it's so impossible and whatever, will never overcome the actual elation felt by people who do it legit, and win.
The best Mega Man game. Actually 9 might be better but it doesn't have the nostalgia factor going for it. Mega Man 3 is weird in that, as far as I'm aware, it's the only game in the series that has two separate boss weakness loops instead of just having one big loop. Snake > Gemini > Needle > Snake is one loop and Top > Shadow > Spark > Magnet > Hard > Top is another.
It had been a while so I just did a run through Contra myself (still in the 1cc club) and Energy Zone is definitely the hardest level in the game; some of those flame spurts are total bullshit and the boss will probably wipe them when they get to it the first time because you have to jump over him and it doesn't look like you can and they will panic and die. Hangar is pretty easy in comparison and the Alien Lair is super short so they are on the home stretch. I think next episode they've got this.
Dammit. I knew he would take 'normal' difficulty. In case anyone doesn't know, the original Japanese release of this game didn't have a difficulty selection, it was set to 'difficult'. 'Normal' is really an easy mode where you take half damage and deal twice as much damage. Which has the net effect of making this game super easy, you can DPS race practically every boss even if you don't use their weakness.
Mark was all on his own like a rainbow in the dark, until Ryo Dio was caught in the middle. Dio punched them straight through the heart and taught them that you don't talk to strangers.
