I was a Star Wars megafan a lonnng time ago, so it's nice to see something feel more Expanded Universey out of Disney.

I liked the general vibe of the show, but the whole quiet, helmeted protagonist schtick feels like a hard way to get me interested in his character. If it weren't for the *very* fun last ten minutes, I'd probably be mildly apprehensive for the series' future.

Now that we've gotten the obligatory shootout or two, I'd like to see greater emphasis on some more relaxed scenes. Maybe an upbeat song, some downtime, etc.

Mario 3D World. I always preferred level-based Mario over 64's hub-roaming design.

I'm not a huge anime fan, but I'll second the Carole and Tuesday recommendation. The soundtrack is super fun, the animation is good, and the story is short enough not to waste your time. Later episodes slow down a bit, but not enough to ruin the fun.

I think it might actually be from last year(?) but Violet Evergarden is also really good. I love its premise and sense of restraint (and it's also nice and short).

Most dark horses this year are in non-GB genres (Disco Elysium, Total War) so I won't be miffed if they don't get mentioned.

What *will* irritate me is if Mario Maker 2 is on the top 10. That game's removed features and broken online play are embarassing, but Mario love might let it slide anyway. I'm mildly disgruntled just thinking about it.

I've played X and XIII, but never really touched this one. Really love how thorough these are, it's a fun(!) way to experience the entries I missed without being subjected to playing them.

"What ensues next is a frustrating adventure complemented by some of the best story moments in the game." What a beautiful way to summarize my favourite part of Final Fantasy. Excited for the FF2 torture to begin.

Yeah, Blizzard has pulled out to a strong lead here. I'll put side bets on Anthem and Randy getting in at 2nd and 3rd, but thoses messes feel like they happened years ago now.

Edit- Damn I already forgot the ESA doxxed every games journalist. What a year.

Yeah I've thought the ost sounded a bit surf-y, super cool arrangements. If we wanna be sticklers, I'd say the second (E1M4) gets a little hard to parse/muddy when all the guitars are going fullspeed, but I still really like both of them.

A lot of people seem to be saying that written reviews are objectively inferior because you can learn more about a game from play footage, but that's assuming reviews only serve one purpose: helping decide whether to purchase something.

I'll always miss written reviews because I like reading them--they're interesting/fun/reflective in a different way than conversational mentions.

And like Relkin is saying above, I think writing reviews is a good exercise for critique. If they're not making traffic, though, then I understand why written reviews have been fading out.

Man, I was always lukewarm on Waypoint but a lot of those guys are great, so I hope they find continued work when it (inevitably, I think) shuts down.

Austin was probably my favourite addition to GB ever, in part because he's got such a distinct voice in games criticism. Excited to see what he does next.

I just beat it too, and the line between the Joker toxin's effects and the Scarecrow toxin's effects were very confusing. I'd like to believe that the ending implies Batman overcame Scarecrow's toxin, but is still infected with joker toxin and will probably die.

Of course, the game more implies that Batman survives because he's cool and strong, but as long as they don't make any more I'll stuck to my head canon.
