Recommend me some Best Of Giant Bomb Moments

I'm thinking about making a "Best of" monthly. So if there's any great moment from quick looks and/or premium video you want to recommend to me, do it here. (I might start doing premium videos pending Drew's approval).

WHAT IS THE BEST CLIPS OF JANUARY !?!?!??!?!?!?!??!???????

2012.

The ultimate 2012 memorial is here!

Favorite Game: The Walking Dead

Never in the history of my life have I cared about characters in a video game like I've cared about the group of survivors that I met in The Walking Dead. It's been talked about to death, so I'll just skip everything and move on...

I'll miss ya, Clem D':

Favorite Movie: Django Unchained

This was kind of wide open for me all year long, and I probably would have answered this question with "Cabin in the Woods" a few weeks ago, but I'm a sucker for Tarantino, and I feel that him and his cast absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. DiCaprio's dinner table scene alone was one of the most exhilarating moments in cinema that I've seen in a long time.

Favorite Album: Tame Impala - Lonerism

I hated mostly all music this year. I really liked Tame Impala however. Honorable mention to Japandroids.

Favorite Giant Bomb Quick Look: A-10C Warthog

It didn't take long at all until we got the best Quick Look of the year. As the guy who makes highlight clips out of this stuff, this video was a blessing. It also cemented the Flight Club videos as some of the funnest videos to watch on this website. It takes about 35 minutes until they finally get the damn plane in the air, but it has some of the greatest banter in any quick look and a few moments that are glorious.

Favorite Giant Bomb Subscriber Video: Breaking Brad: Doom II

Six hours of Brad Muir, Cacodads, and Brad fucking up. A day well waisted.

Favorite Episode of Community: Pillows and Blankets

A history channel-style documentary of a civil war in Greendale Community College between Troy's Blanket-fort and Abed's Pillow-fort. I love this show so much.

Favorite Episode of Louie: Late Show

Favorite YouTube video: Caine's Arcade

Favorite Psy song of 2012: GANGNAM STYLE

Favorite Wrestling Match of 2012: CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan

Favorite Wrestling Gimmick of 2012: Archibald Peck / The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger

Get this: Archibald Peck (The leader of the high school band) loses his cheerleader girlfriend Veronica to Mr. Touchdown. Then, Archibald goes to a dark place and turn himself into Mixed Martial Archie. Mixed Martial Archie loses a "Loser Leaves Town" match to Mr. Touchdown and is forced to leave wrestling... months later, some guy in a mask and a cowboy hat named "The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger" debuts. He goes on a huge win streak for the rest of the year along with his trusty sidekick and pidgeon friend, Sapphire. Nobody can beat these two, and the Mysterious and Handsome stranger challenges Mr. Touchdown to a match. During the match, Mr. Touchdown MURDERS SAPPHIRE. At the last show of the year, The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger gets his revenge on Mr. Touchdown and Veronica and reveals that he is none other than ARCHIBALD PECK! But wait, Archibald Peck was banned from wrestling... but there's one thing that nobody saw. During the Loser Leaves Town match, Eddie Kingston gave Archibald Peck a "Backfist to the Future", which sent Archibald Peck to the year 1885. From there, Archibald lived a long and hard life until he transformed into The Mysterious and Hansome Stranger and received another Backfist to the Future from a guy named Mad Dog, which sent him to after the Loser Leaves Town match. Thus, Archibald never lost the Loser Meets Town match until he gets hit with another Backfist to the Future which would then send him to the Loser Leaves Town match where he lost, completing the time travel storyline.

I made none of that up.

Favorite Color of 2012: Blue

Favorite Sports Moment of 2012: Mark Cuban vs. Skip Bayless

Best of Quick Looks 28, 29, & 30.

So... Giant Bomb got back into a bit of a hot streak recently with fun quick looks and I got the urge to make a few of these videos again. I still love doing these and I'm happy that I've reached 30 of these videos. At the beginning, I was making these videos as a quick highlight for new users that came over from 1up.com when that company was bought out, and now I find it very rewarding whenever somebody messages me and tells me that these videos have led them to this website.

Also, Youtube has taken down two of these videos for copyright infringement (Episode 1 for that german car show and another one for using wrestling footage at the end). Whenever I have a chance, I'll cut out that stuff so I can re upload them to youtube.

So, here they are:

One Year Anniversary of The Wrestling Thread: 24 Hour Marathon.

Greetings, fellow duders.

Over the past year, you might have noticed a movement on the forums. It started out with a few guys on an abandoned forum on Giant Bomb over in The Wrestling Ring and then it kept growing. Next thing you know, our thread is the most active thread on Giant Bomb for the past three months straight. This Wednesday will be the day that our thread turns one year old, and we figure that we should do a little celebrating. We don't want to hold this party on our own, however, we want to make sure that everybody is invited to the TWENTY FOUR HOUR WRESTLING MARATHON.

This Wednesday, November 13th, starting at 12:00 PM EST ( @ 750.beats) we will be holding up a room at http://www.synchtube.com/r/TurboMan and will collectively be watching matches and moments collectively selected by The Wrestling Thread. Every duder is welcome to join in and participate, no matter if you're a wrestling fan or not.

It's also important to note what we have done. Is our thread just a bunch of spam talking about how much we all collectively hate John Cena? No. Here is a list of accomplishments and achievements that our little community has produced over the past year:

Monday Night Chatroom

No Caption Provided

I'm not shy about saying this: Sometimes a three hour show is long and tedious. However, if you're watching a show with a group of people and having fun with it, it's a blast. We currently average about fifteen to twenty people in the chat every week, and up to 30+ people on PPV's. It's a great way we build our sense of community and I highly recommend anybody that thinks about getting into wrestling to join us.

League of Champions

No Caption Provided

Some members of Giant Bomb have earned themselves Gold Medals. Only a select few are worthy of holding a championship belt in their avatars. Before each PPV, each of us gives up their picks/bids on who will win each and every match by using a combination of Dumb Luck, Wrestling Logic, and possible Wizardry. Oh, you think that WWE is going to give Dolph Ziggler that last rub before he earns a championship belt match? Well then you would be like me, at the bottom of the list. Only a select few have the skills to determine the outcomes of future matches.

Wrestling Wizard Society

No Caption Provided

Have you ever predicted that somebody was going to go through the Spanish Announce Table, even though that the match was inside of a steel cage? Have you ever predicted that the only weakness to Brock Lesnar would be to aim for his liver due to his past with Diverticulitis? We have, and there can only be one true explanation for it: Wizardry. Thus, we have came up with the Wrestling Wizard Society where you send in a selection of Krazyâ„¢ predictions and you can win the belt if you guess correctly. In the world of Wrestling Wizard Society, even the rules of Wrestling Logic don't apply...

Wednesday Night Wrasslin'

It all can't be about the present, which is why it's great to set aside a night where we take a look at the past. Every wednesday night on Synchtube, somebody puts together a playlist that will feature a wide variety of matches. You'll see at least one main event match, one gimmick match, one tag team match, one foreign match, and one match that's just plain terrible. It's always a blast and it's proven to be a great way to atleast

  1. Waste time while waiting for Spookin' With Scoops
  2. Come up with really dumb/amazing wrestling gimmicks (more on that later?)

The Future - A Wrestling Wiki (?)

You know how on the last TNT that Jeff mentioned how every wrestling website was just crawling with intrusive ads? IT'S FUCKING TRUE. Meaning that outside of WReddit and the wrestling subforum on 420chan, every wrestling website in the entire world is fucking terrible. That being said, a wrestling website in the style of Giant Bomb (blog/video/wiki) would be incredibly fun. It was a good idea a few years ago when Jeff said it at PAX, and it's a good idea today. There was a time in Whiskey Media where it was looking promising for more Whiskey sites to be made (Sports, Books, etc.), but that dream has gone up in flames with the merger of CBSi. However, we are still holding on to hope that maybe one day we can be able to run and operate a Wrestling Wiki ourselves.... One Day.....

I want to briefly thank the moderator and staff team for putting up with us also. Thanks for letting our community thrive within your forums.

THE SCHAFERARATHON #1 : Full Throttle

I'm fairly sure that my favorite game of all time is Psychonauts. The world and the story perfectly blended to make this incredible game that captured my imagination. I also probably didn't become your typical "hardcore gamer" until 2004ish, so my history of PC Games is very minimal. I love and follow anything that Double Fine touches, I'll even defend the multiplayer mode in Brutal Legend if I have to. But there's one small problem in saying that I'm a huge fan of that company: I haven't played any of Schafer's earlier games. No Monkey Island, no Grim Fandango, no nothing. So with Double Fine Adventure coming out at some point (The goal is now March), I have to beef up my game. Thus, I introduce to you, my loyal Giant Bomb followers... THE SCHAFERARATHON.

I start off this look back by playing Full Throttle because it's the one I know absolutely nothing about. The game came out in 1995 and supports a really nice graphical style for that point in time. It also had full voice acting that is miles beyond any other voice acting in games at the time (oh hey, Mark Hamill's in the game).

The main thing I took away from this game was that unlike most of Schafer's writing, it didn't necessarily try to put a funny spin on every single character. Instead of relying on comedy to get you to focus in on the game, the game has a great sense of style and use of environments to entice you. The setting is this futuristic time where the production of Motorcycle's are about to go extinct. It's up to you to make sure the last company that produces motorcycles doesn't fall into the hands of the man that murdered the current president of the company.

I'll get the most negative thing out of the way now. Anytime the game broke away from the "adventure game" mold, it was an absolute nightmare to control. There is a handful of segments where your fighting a rival gang member on a bike while driving and the steering mechanics was always working 50% of the time at best. There's also a demolition derby segment towards the end that will make you smash your mouse with rage. The only thing good about them is that they are actually puzzles even if you don't realise it at first, but it just takes forever to execute on the solution of the puzzles after you had already figured out the answer.

As far as the rest of the game is concerned, I mostly enjoyed my time figuring out the puzzles in front of me and the interaction with characters from the game. The game uses a UI where you hold down the mouse button to show the set of actions you're allowed to do on the spot your mouse is on, as opposed to the usually adventure game trope (at the time) of having all of the actions laid out to you at the bottom of the screen at all times. The puzzles themselves were nicely laid out for the most part, with me being stuck the occasional few times of me not paying attention of seeing items pop out of the background. I also found it very interesting that I usually nailed all of the comedic puzzles with wacky logic and sometimes got stuck on the more straightforward puzzles.

I said earlier that this game doesn't rely on it's comedy to get you hooked into it's world, but of course there's some really good bits of fun that is seen throughout the game. Most of this comes from the second half, where you get to meet up with the souvenir salesman outside of the stadium, where you get to solve a puzzle by running around on fire, and where you steal a bunny from the souvenir salesman only to have the bunny march across a minefield to give you a clear path.

Wait a second.... was that part using "Flight of the Valkyries"? Hold on... Sorry... I need to add more Daniel Bryan to this game right now...

Sorry about that.

Overall, this game is good fun with a solid story to tell. Nothing makes this game stand out as an adventure game that tops all others, but it was impressive in 1995 to have a quality product this professionally made in video games, and I can respect that. It's also a little on the short side, clocking in at about 2.5 hours on my first run through.

Best of Quick Looks #26: Fake Nazi's / Real Karate

Mah goodness... I've made 26 of these things?

Games included:

  • Madden 13
  • Kerbal Space Program
  • Happy Action TV
  • Stay Dead
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • NCAA 13
  • Dance Central 3
  • Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark 2

I've been sick for the past half of the week, so I'm behind on school work and I'm behind on my Yoga (but I've been sick, so that's good news on my weight loss). Hopefully I didn't miss too much... watching every single quick look and keeping track of which I should include in these videos is a hell of a task. So hopefully if I missed any, you can find it on GeneralIDAS's page.

TurboMan wants to have a skinny weiner! - Week 0

I'm Fat.

Don't believe me? Listen to what Scott Steiner says about me whenever my name is brought up:

Ever since middle school, I've continuously gained weight. Over the years, I never really considered being strict on my diet and exercising right. I was once on a path towards losing weight in high school when I was in high school wrestling mode, but after that I never went back to that mentality. Like most heavier set guys, I really didn't care to much about my weight. To me, I've felt fine about myself and I've never had any problems physically with my weight. I was confident and it didn't really seem like a big deal to me.

My friends never really mentioned it and besides the occasional jackass, nobody picked on me because of my weight. Even on Giant Bomb, I made a set of videos called "The Hamburger Review"... it was pretty good at the most part and made a few people chuckle, which is all I was trying to do. Even with all the positive responses from duders, I occasionally got somebody who heckled me for my weight.

So I was fine... until I got to College. There wasn't a big huge moment, but instead I became gradually more depressed with my look and image. I'm going to school now to become a high school teacher (in math), and I have no problem at all being in front of a group of people, but I've noticed that I don't even look at mirrors or reflections of myself now because I hate how I look, and I feel like I'm a different person inside. Over the past few weeks/month, I feel like it's became a form of depression for me. Now I'm at the point where I feel like I need to change up my life. The answer, you ask?

Yoga.

Yoga?

Yoga.

... Yoga?

DDP Yoga.

... What?

BANG!

I've been way into wrestling again for the past year, and there's something that a ton of wrestling fans are talking about. They're talking about how incredible of a weight loss program DDP Yoga is. I laughed it off at first, but the more people are getting into it, the more serious their testimonies are becoming. That and the fact that there are a good number of wrestlers that I think the world of are strictly using DDP Yoga as their workout routine has made me serious about trying out the system. DDP might as well been considered my role model at the age of ten, so the thought of him being a yoga instructor for me sounds perfect.

So... I just received the DVD today and I'm excited for results. And I'm planning to bring the Giant Bomb Universe up to date with my (hopefully) weight loss journey. I don't plan on stopping until I can do a Handstand for ten seconds.
