Sanay's 2022 games

List items

  • This game feels incredible the whole way through, I felt like the jump was a little too floaty in the beginning but the later levels and side quest levels really need the floaty jump. I also enjoyed the story and writing, it was not like super unique in premise but the characters were written well and they were the main focus so it worked pretty well.

  • Great game already, can't wait to see what else they add. The upgrade system already feels great which is very promising for the future, each upgrade feels noticeable while still being well considered.

  • really enjoyed this game for the first like two-thirds, basically until I had unlocked all of the abilities, after that the collection aspect got annoying cause it was giving me nothing for completing all of it. Also really really hated the final boss in, but that first two thirds was probably some of the most fun I have had with a game in a long while

  • Really well designed time loop game, the quests make it much easier to keep up with, it also helps that it ends up being quite short. The dialogue and story design are really well done. The only thing that I didn't like was getting locked out of dialogue with a person if you say the wrong thing and having to start the loop over to make that work. The other endings felt somewhat unnecessary though.

  • I think this is the best one yet in a lot of ways, with a lot of caveats. The showcase events were interesting set pieces, but they had been done better in 3 and 4. There was an insane variety of events, and honestly too many to the point where it made it difficult to know how to progress which just ends up being do anything. It was a little buggy for me, to the point where I was not able to complete certain events. They also just hand out cars and currency in this one like nobody's business, which is nice, but it also makes it feel like there is no progression throughout the whole game cause you can pretty much buy and car you want at any time.

  • I think this might have some of the best movement and flow to traversal of any game that I can remember, it would have been nice if they gave some of the abilities a little earlier but overall one of the best games. The weapons were goofy in a very insomniac way which was nice as well. Also a lot of very clear influence on Marvel's spiderman comes from this game in mission design and traversal and certain sequences too. Also the writing grew on me and became very enjoyable by the end.

  • Story was way more interesting than the previous one, also the characters were great. Having more than 2 characters in the story helps a lot. I really loved the whole cast, all of the performances were great and really added a lot to the characters, it felt like they were having actual conversations rather than just talking at each other like it was in the previous game. The puzzles and side quests were also great, the side quests in particular felt like they added a lot to the game. my biggest drawback though was the combat, it didn't really improve on the combat of the last game, they basically just added an additional weapon to the previous ones, and the enemy/combat design still felt like it was missing something. It still has all the same problems as the last game with there not being any invincibility on the dodge and parry not feeling great, and the special moves just lock you into an animation that enemies can still do big damage to you during. But all of the normal enemies were fine, the boss fights during the main story were pretty fun, but all the post game fights kinda sucked they were either too easy to stun lock the enemy and just destroy them or they were just way to fast to react to like a boss zooming across the stage and doing an unlockable attack or grab to one shot you kind of sucks a lot.

  • I fall off of it sometimes but they always manage to pull me back in with all the story and characters each update and the exploration and map is so good. The voice acting is also really good and that really makes the characters feel real like they have an actual life and personality when I am not seeing them. Also every time I get bored a new character to build or team to make happens in the next update and it pulls me right back in.

update 12/23: The story and new areas this year were so good, and there were some great new characters released. also a lot of the new events felt great and brought a variety of new things to do that kept it feeling fresh

  • wonderful chill out game, I think some of the levels are a bit too long taking multiple hours to complete. Also the completion on a object felt weird sometimes it was too lenient and other times it was to harsh on completing, I wish there was a way to tune that relative to the size of the object or just giving me a slider to make it complete at a lower percentage would have helped

  • Just a fun time the whole way through, the post game was a fun challenge with a condensed version of the main game levels so that was fun too. The game looks and feels great too, there was a couple of times that I noticed some frame drops though.

  • Fun puzzle game, got quite challenging at times, and the ending was a fun twist

  • Really neat little game on the playdate a lot more depth than I was expecting from such a simple premise.

  • The single player felt a little lacking in creativity it felt like they just turned the difficulty up a little bit from 2 and didn't really have much new to add outside of the new powers anyway. They took a lot from the second game and the dlc for that game and just sort of mashed it together for the single player. The multiplayer seems a lot better than it was in 2.

  • played this for the first time, I think I like the second one a lot more but this one was short and sweet and feels pretty decent still. I just wish the RT was better implemented it made the game look a lot better but at the cost of getting 1% performance it is not worth it. also the frame rate jumping around so much did make me kind of motion sick which sucks.

  • I don't really like the actual gameplay mechanics of the regular songs, I liked the boss fights a decent amount but only ended up doing one of them. it is nice that they condensed the main kingdom hearts story into a short digestible game. I really like the music which is what got me through the roughly 3 hours that I played of it, but the cutscenes are too few and far between to be worth the time for me. I am just going to end up watching a compilation of all the cutscenes to get any of the new stuff from this one.

  • Honestly way better than I was expecting. The early game is pretty slow and the mechanics don't feel great for a while. But once you start to get deeper into the story it is pretty compelling and the combat gets better and better. Overall really solid. The DLC was also pretty fun.

  • Fun little golf game was not expecting it to have so much diversity or for it to be like a weird portal like experience, it is unfortunate that it was built for touchscreens and does not work nearly as well with a mouse and keyboard or a controller

  • Have not beat this yet, but it was a really neat and interesting twist on the standard pokemon game, really hits on some neat mechanics and they work really well. I burned out pretty quick on it, but enjoyed what I played. maybe I will revisit this at some point this year

  • as far as TCGs go this one is really solid on the fundamentals and doesn't force you into a ton of microtransactions to get a decent deck. but the way that the card pools work from leveling up really fucks you over at a certain point and makes the beginning cards kind of useless and I wish that wasn't the case cause I was always just short of making the deck that I wanted to and then it would get completely screwed by a new pool of cards.

  • neat little game, I did not beat it the "right" way, but I did like the first part of it, but then it decided to just push a little to hard on the combat and stuff which was pretty meh to begin with. I also wish there was a more guided option, I just don't think this game was for me. After coming back to this game, I really had an itch to continue with it. but fell off again, I really would have enjoyed it more if they had explained it better from the get go, but I understand that is not what they were going for

  • Really fun co-op experience, I was expecting a little more out of the story, but it was fun in a group setting. I was not expecting to like the characters as much as I did, they were done a lot better than I expected.

  • I feel like every patch has made this game worse in so many ways and I just don't care to play it anymore. I still like watching it though

  • I think they did a very poor job adapting souls games to an open world. There are a ton of things that I have issues in the combat with like the way enemies attack, and how far their agro range is, and these are things that fromsoft has been very good at in all their our souls games. And then there was the open world stuff that was just fluff there was no substance to it and nothing going on that felt interesting. That was probably the worst questing system I have ever seen implemented in a game in the last 10 years. The boss fights were annoying because of how large and unwieldy the bosses could be, to the point where you could legit just not see fully if you were within fighting range, it was as if they were trying to go for spectacle over substance without putting in anything that made the spectacle work. The bosses also just moved way to far away sometimes, most fights consisted more of me running towards them rather than actually fighting. The combat did not feel paced well as in other souls games either, enemies would sometimes be extremely slow then go hyper speed out of nowhere. The combat kind of felt like a mess for a souls game. The level design was just awful too, and it was way to easy to miss items and objects that were very useful by just running by them. This game also does not really have many memorable boss fights which is something that I have come to expect from Fromsoft so that is a bit disappointing too.

  • I really hate the way that this one feels in motion, there should be so much more to this game it feels pretty awful, there is just so much more that they could have done. also makes it feel like you should only play with full screen buttons

  • A totally okay game, I mostly played with a podcast on so I didn't have to hear much of the roiland voice, so I think that helped, it felt fine too, there was some weird jittering when moving the camera which I assume is a PC problem.

  • I think they kept too much of the not so good stuff and took out some of the better stuff about the first game, there are too many character classes and the upgrade tree is too big, the challenge levels are interesting in concept but completely thrown in the trash because you have to just use the handicaps in order to get the max rewards from them so they don't actually end up testing your abilities much. I think the boss designs are kind of terrible compared to the first game, and there is too much chaos for how controlled they want you to be. Also felt like I was timing things correctly every time only to get hit while attacking, like trading blows when I shouldn't have been way too much. The story bits were also not compelling to me in the slightest.

  • the combat feels really good initially, but the enemy design sucks so bad. in the beginning it was passable then they just started adding enemies that are annoying like armored or shields things like that, which was still fine it got annoying cause they would do uninterruptable attacks but you could dodge those. It really became an issue when they just decided that instant kills were the next best thing to do, it just makes the game incredibly unfun to play, and the combat never felt rewarding enough to begin with to warrant that. They also could have added invincibility to more stuff that would have gone a long way to help with the combat feel. It was often difficult to tell what was going on in a fight as well which was annoying. The story was more annoying than it needed to be, it just got in the way of the gameplay and there was no way to skip it effectively.

  • cute little game with some fun mechanics, but nothing to inventive or interesting about it, it was a nice bit size thing for the playdate though

  • Really nice chill game, is pretty short and enjoyable too. I had a few issues with the placement and not knowing what certain items were as well.

  • The new enemies were annoying and unsatisfying to fight, and all the new weapons kinda sucked, also had some graphical jank on the PC.

  • a neat game that I fell off of hard, the concept was interesting and the world was silly but the actual gameplay was not very fluid

  • Bad pokemon game all the way down, and it was weirdly buggy in the fights where the wrong thing would happen, like a pokemon using fly or dig doesn't get hit by normal attacks like only specific ones work but they totally do for no reason, also like pokemon would eat their berries before they were supposed to, sometimes text boxes don't show up, and sometimes they just don't show the UI, and it was very buggy. Also gave up at the elite four cause they were just annoying fights and I don't care to grind for them anymore.
