XCOM 2.

I loved XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but I'm not particularly good at it. So I play on easy and take my time with a level. XCOM 2 seemed great when I started playing (more XCOM!), but fairly quickly into the game it introduces some kind of time limit or turn limit for some missions, and I just hated it, I was unable to progress -- it seems bonkers to me that they didn't think to make that more lenient on the easiest difficulty.

EDIT: apparently XCOM 2: War of the Chosen has an option to double the timers, I guess should I should try that one.

I'm a dutch guy living in latin america, so obviously I'm rooting for Red Bull to win. However, Max is a punk and Lewis just seems like a nicer person and better human being, so I also want Lewis to win :)

I'm excited for the new season to start!

If they don't attack me first, in general I'll leave them alone.

(also I haven't crafted a single thing in this game so far. I'm about 25 hours in, about to try Godrick again).

I love the atmosphere and world building in From's games, but they always seem to be a very delicate balance between fun and frustration for me. I finished all three Dark Souls games, but don't enjoy their difficulty at all. I only managed to finish them by calling in help for many bosses and looking up guides on how to spec my character.

Sekiro I loved what I played, but didn't get very far at all because it just gets way too difficult really quickly.

Any word on the difficulty in the reviews so far?

I'm definitely going to play Elden Ring, and I'm not opposed to looking up stuff in guides, so I'm fine with it being a bit obtuse... eventually the internet will figure it out. I'm just hoping combat will be easier than other souls games, so more folks (like me) can finish it.

@warpr: This is incorrect. You won't be able to add funds directly after May 2022 but you can still add funds by adding them to your Switch wallet and, if that's linked to the 3DS and Wii U account, using that money to buy stuff.

Oh, that's good to know. (it doesn't work for me personally, as my Wii U account is USA and I have a European account on the Switch, and I'm not sure you can have both a USA and a European Nintendo account on the same Switch).

As for me, personally, I never had a Wii U and while I've toyed with the idea of picking one up it would mostly be for Wii games through HDMI at this point since the vast majority of the games I wanted to play have come to Switch and I suspect the Zelda remakes will make their way over eventually too.

Oh I certainly expect Nintendo to announce Twilight Princess HD within days of me finishing it on Wii U, just to annoy me (it happened with Skyward Sword :). But it hasn't happened so far, and I was just in the mood to revisit this game while I wait for Elden Ring. (I haven't played TP since the original GameCube release).

Since my previous post I finished all games listed:

  • Unpacking (this was brilliant, loved it)
  • The Gunk (good, not particularly memorable but enjoyed my play-through)
  • Lake (this game rubbed we the wrong way with some of the dialog and acting at the start, it grew on me as I continued and I did enjoy my play-through, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone -- it needed something more)
  • Lost Judgement (loved it, it has some issues and isn't as good as the previous one -- but still a great game if you're into the Yakuza games)

Next up now is:

  1. Twilight Princess HD (I originally played this on GameCube, but don't remember much of it, so I figured I should replay it -- purchased it on the Wii U eshop while that is still working, as it doesn't seem to be coming to Switch anytime soon)
  2. Elden Ring (looking forward to this. I've finished all three Dark Souls games, but didn't get very far into Sekiro, and as I get older I have less patience for difficult games... so I'm hoping Elden Ring is catering a little more to a casual audience)
  3. Not sure what's next after those two, maybe the new Kirby game?

The more important date is 23rd May 2022, not March 2023.

You won't be able to add funds after May 2022, so effectively you won't be able to buy anything after that date (unless you add a bunch of funds before-hand).

I just purchased Twilight Princess on Wii U, because it doesn't seem to be coming to Switch anytime soon, and I lost my physical (GameCube) copy when I moved to the other side of the world. Physical copies of that are super expensive, so I'm glad the eShop was still working this week :)

I don't remember Twilight Princess very well, so it's been fun dipping back into that while I'm waiting for some other games to release soon.

Now people don't have a choice. Microsoft just discontinued the One X. My tinfoil hat says it was a response to the DF video showing how the One X was better than the Series S for around the same price, especially if you replace the HDD with an SSD. Funny how this happened a couple of days later.

The Xbox One X (and One S All Digital) were both discontinued around July 2020, before the Series S|X even launched.

The Xbox One S was the only one still being manufactured at that point, and we just learned that that one was discontinued at the end of 2020. So doesn't seem like a response to any Digital Foundry video.

I personally don't see the appeal of the Xbox Series S, it doesn't seem enough savings for the considerable downgrade in power -- but supposedly the Series S is selling very well, so Microsoft clearly understands their target market better than me ;)

I always get the day off at work when it's my birthday. Formula 1 drivers cannot just skip a day if their birthday is on Qualifying day or something. So I guess he's lucky to have his birthday in the off-season :)

I beat Life is Strange: True Colors tonight, so I can take that off my list. I enjoyed it, but think Life is Strange 2 is still the best of the series.

Interesting. Maybe I'll have to give LiS 2 another chance. What made it so good? I LOVED LiS1 & LiS:BtS, but I bounced hard off LiS2.

True Colors and LiS2 seems so very different, they're hard to compare. I love the characters and setting of True Colors, but the ending was a bit of a let down. In LiS2 I was annoyed by some of the choices Sean made and the places you end up in as a result of those choices (choices you don't have control over as the player), but I was invested throughout and the ending I got was perfect for how I played the characters throughout the episodes. I enjoyed both of these more than Before the Storm and LiS1.

Anyway, I just finished The Good Life (which is a bad game, but I don't regret kickstarting it), so my next three games are:

Unpacking - Just started this, did the first two "levels" -- I probably won't play more than one "level" per day, so I might just play this alongside the next on the list:

Either The Gunk or Lake - Both seems pretty short, maybe I'll just play one of them, maybe both

Lost Judgment - This is the next "big" game I intend to play, I really enjoyed Judgment and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, so I intend to keep up with the Yakuza series and its spin-offs. I'll probably get to some of the earlier Yakuza games as well this year.
