@elite49: I dunno that I could play without the combat banter (in english). They're telling me what attacks/etc they are doing so I know things like breaks/topples are coming. Makes a difference in my decision process for my own order of attacks/etc.
I wish there was a way to make it feel less overwhelming, but like everything else in this game, a hundred million things are going on per second you have to track. And it only gets denser the farther into the game you get. Although a funny alternate complaint I have is if you want to play optimally you HAVE to use a certain blade in your loadout if you are playing as Rex otherwise your damage is crippled, and it kind of sucks.
At work so can't watch this yet, but they think the combat is basic? Oh boy... if they stick with it they're going to have a bad time. If you don't master the combat it is an utter slog going through mobs with massive HP bars that are proportioned based on full driver combos, full special combos, cancelling attacks for maximum bar, chain attacks....
@steveurkel: I had a similar thing in UT, Inhuman (2nd highest difficulty) AI bots with the laser gun (blanking on the name right now) instagib low grav. Forced me to get better at full 3d aiming and reactions. Playing against 10 of those bots made me a LOT better at FPS.
Something I've been thinking about today since the Volition news. To some degree maybe scaling back games SOME is part of the answer. But what about looking at tools. It isn't cheap, but investing in coming up with new tooling for art asset building, programming, etc might have short term costs but improve productivity in a way to in the long run make something at least close to the old model still work.
For those that don't follow him on twitter/twitch, Blow has been working on a new programming language that, while it may not pan out, at least he's taking a stab at trying to make programming games easier/more pleasant/etc. to code.
@rorie Yeah you have to buy the map to have something to draw on. Which area are you in out of curiosity? There's one area I recall having a super hard time finding the map man and turned out he was lower right portion of that zone and I just kept missing going that way.
Edit: also in case you had not noticed (I know some people didn't) look for paper on the ground to hint the direction to go to find map man, whistling also helps.
NGL Peter dropped some details on Pyre I would not of liked to hear before seeing them in game for myself. So HEADS UP if you are looking to play that one pretty blind.
Haven't played all the way through myself but his "spoilers" seemed vague enough that they were more spoilers for those who consider any talk about a game spoilers and not specific spoilers about plot points. Just my thoughts but it didn't ruin a single thing for me; in fact made me more pumped to see it through to the end.
I disagree pretty strongly here. I already got past the point in question, but I had no idea before getting there that (spoilers for 4-5 hours into the game if you're taking the time to read everything but also winning every match) You would only lose one member at a time and you'd have to pick based on experience. The shock of it gave me a LOT to chew on.
