- Relicanth is one of two Pokemon required to initiate the Regi sidequest in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, the other being Wailord.
- Its real-life counterpart is the Coelacanth, a fish which dwells the deepest waters of the ocean and is virtually unchanged from fossils of its ancestors living millions of years ago.
