Rise of the Tomb Raider - A fun ride!
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a welcomed followup to this much deserved reboot of a trashy franchise. It starts strong, constantly evolves and does not overstay its welcome.
I've always been a fan of Indiana Jones and wilderness survival so I was very happy to see this franchise rebooted with something a little more realistic then what came before. While it does not change the successful Uncharted formula too much, it tweaks it in just the right way to offer something palatable to a guy tiring of the genre.
The story of Rise of the Tomb Raider offers a cheesy but interesting enough drama thanks to a compelling performance by its lead. The villians are complete cartoons and the twists and turns are silly and unearned. What is there is awesome setpieces of Mountain Ranges and glaciers, clifftops and meadow valleys. They are beautiful to look at and fun to explore briefly as you make your way through to your next adventure.
The gun play is a lot more quickly resolved then the Uncharted games I found. Enemies go down in a satisfying one or two hits of your ranged weapons rather then continue the frustrating and suspension of disbelief destroying trend of tanking a mag from a rifle.
In the end I enjoyed my time with Tomb Raider and I'm looking forward to what they do next!
PS: Folks need to stop making games where its okay to jump into 0 degree water... because its not!
