Well that was literally the most depressing way imaginable to learn about the death of Brody Stevens.

I rented Cyborg Justice multiple times as a kid. It’s a gem.

Maybe not "accurate" but Retroarch on Switch is a cool thing.

I only wish they had played the Amiga version of IK+. That's the one I grew up on.

This was my fave UPF in a long while. They finally went back to playing random old games rather than thinly disguised quick looks of every modern release and the formula of some anime game or some awful N64 platformer every week. Only UPF in a long long while I didn't skip huge chunks of it.

I couldn't even get past the first five minutes of this episode with Jeff spouting huge amounts of M$ fanboy bias against Sony. I thought gamers grew out of this. Shame

I played the shit out of IK+ on C64 back in the day.

I really enjoy the MiSTer stuff-- Jeff bringing in his build and showing some games. I like hearing him talk about the pros and cons of the various setups. I have a Raspberry Pi based RetroPi going and I love all the old games but I have noticed the slowness and lag.

I might be in the venn diagram for MiSTer-- people who want to play old games + people who don't mind fiddling around a lot.

On one hand I completely agree that it feels really nice and refreshing that it's finally an UPF without following the "fighting game + anime + disguised quick look of new game" formula , but on the other hand having one hour and a half of just emulated retro games seems a bit much. I enjoyed the PS3 segment though.

Does Dave ever play games in any segments? I'm sure it's a choice but he always watches it seems.

I also gotta agree with others that the older console and arcade games really don't have all that much going on with them and are kind of boring to watch. I just don't know what you can say about 1942 or Karate fighter or any of these games almost 40 years later. Although after saying this I am just glad it wasn't more Apex Legends or any Battle Royale which is a snooze to watch.

Not really a fan of Rick Flair, might be a testament to how much of a “good” heel he was...

PS3 is a janky system, even more so apparent to me now having used a PS4 as my main gaming system. But I'm deep, deep into the ecosystem... had my PS Vita TV glitch out on me this week with an unexplained black screen, and had my PS3 boot up with a HDMI connection error whilst attempting to get Devil May Cry HD off of my backlog. Nostalgia this ain't.

Patents for backwards compatibility notwithstanding I hope Mark Cerny has my back...and by that I mean the PSP catalogue uprezzed. RIP The Jaggies.

Regardless, I am prolly not getting a new console until at least the first hardware revision, what with improved cooling hardware and reduced noise of more importance to me than having a day 1 next gen machine.

Also SID music is my preferred form of chiptune music. Long may it reign

I loved seeing bootleg Genesis Tekken, just one of many demakes/ports/bootlegs of games to old consoles. My favourite being Final Fantasy 7 on the NES, made by a Chinese company. Shits wild.

I don't usually enjoy UPF that much anymore but I always watch anyway because I'm hoping it will be like this

I was just thinking last night how it'd be cool to see more Genesis games on stream.

My favorite UPFs are the ones where they play a bunch of classic games and this is no exception! The classic / obscure games + Jeff’s deep knowledge is such a great lesson in video game history. I had no idea there was a Genesis Blaster Master or a Strider sequel developed by US Gold.

Not sure about the US but in Europe there was a retail disc version of Pain for some reason. I picked it up back then for about £5 but only played about an hour of it because it was so dull. One weird thing about it is outside of the title screen the game had no music whatsoever, but was one of the rare PS3 games to let you play your own mp3s over it.

Man, the sounds of classic games have such a relaxing effect on me. Brings me back to my carefree childhood.

Great show! And a fun reminder that going back to the PS3 after being used to more friendly systems is always a rude surprise. The entire experience of interacting with a PS3 (outside of a game) absolutely sucks ass.
