I gotta say, I'm excited about an expanded PvE campaign in Overwatch 2, It'll be nice to get more lore that way.

You could totally blow things in the first Luigi's Mansion.

@cheburashka: Wow they really are just spoiling the story with no warning whatsoever, that's amazing. It must be strange to hold so much contempt for a game that any consideration for those who are excited to play it is completely ignored.

I really need to see the story in this game for myself--I have incomplete data! I feel like I usually disagree with Jeff and Ben on narrative decisions in the hardest possible way, but Jeff seems to understand a lot about MGS did well. If I find more than surface-level philosophy in Death Stranding it's because I have such an extensive background in the subject, and people shouldn't be expected to need that. I don't really think I can expect critics to pick up on some things if they're buried under a layer of academic cruft, so anything that claims by inference that it's deep is hard to review.

That said, that's all hypothetical and for now, I just have to assume that the game's story is just disappointing nonsense until I play it for myself.

@anwar: I don't even like Overwatch anymore but that conversation was kinda infuriating to listen to because of the reasons you mentioned.

@anwar: Have no interest in Overwatch but your Kotaku comment was weird so I googled "kotaku overwatch pve" and found articles from years ago talking about the same thing as you. Did you think they wouldn't write about new content in a popular game?

@tyrant1x: I think his comment was more in reference to how much of Giant Bomb's knowledge about what is happening in the games industry seems to come from articles pulled from Kotaku.

I always thought it would be spelled Shlooter, because it's a portmanteau and doesn't involve stringed instruments.

I think at this point I just want to see them play some Death Stranding and talk about it, and not ever play it myself. Jeff's less than stellar reaction and the fact IGN gave it a 6.8 makes me say yeah, prob gonna skip this one.

But hey Need for Speed Heat comes out this week. Maybe we will get some of that sweet street racing action in a quick look soon.

@authenticm: I was playing video games while listening so take my opinion with a grain of salt since I might have zoned out a few times but I really don't think they spoiled anything major for Death Stranding. They made reference a few times to events in the game but I don't believe they went into any story specifics. A few others here seem to think there were some spoilers but everyone's definition of a spoiler is different.

Fry Reglet will be the hot gaming trend for 2020.

@thekitkatshuffler: If you don't like it, move on. Even the people who gave the game a high score call it inconsistent and disjointed. I am happy to get both sides of the spectrum on a game like this because the amount of 100s on Metacritic for a game like this is insane. Pretty big Kojima bump going on right now.

The opening minutes of this are some all time great stuff. And the short clip of Brad's "Are you Quite Done?!" followed by Jeff's "Never!!" will go down as one of the great sound bytes from this year for this show.

Is there any reason the mobile video players does not show video times and the seek bar can be so unresponsive? Since there is no timer it is almost impossible to locate where you are at in a conversation without having to click a whole bunch of unnecessary times in a 3 hour video to find where I was at is difficult. If this is a bug I would love to know but I never see anything but a long white bar that I can click and make it red, thats it, there is no time indicating where at in the video you are at. This is on a newer Samsung tablet as well.

I wonder why they barely challenge Ben when he says stuff like the Switch's library blows everything else out of the water. I mean besides the obvious Nintendo owned IP aren't there better versions of almost every single title on the PS4 and the Sony IP and then everything on the PS4 that would be impossible or gimped to the point of why bother? Then again 2 minutes later he said no one would sell 75 million systems anymore.

A quick glance at the post history is all you need to know that this person just hates this website and nothing is going to change. Just another version of that "I have nothing nice to say ever, and I'm really bitter, and everyone absolutely needs to hear it because it is important to me that everyone knows how upset I am despite the fact that it has zero impact on anything!"

@bored_and_agitated: Schluter is a company that make bath/shower system, trims for tiles, and floor underlayment for tiles(the orange waffle in pic is call Ditra). I was confused at first then read the description on this episode.

The fact the Beastcast repeat the names of the games they talked about at the end of each segment and put the effort in to put timestamps out for spoilers makes it the far superior podcast. It's ridiculous as well when you consider Death Stranding is a game that's entirely about the mystery and it ISN'T EVEN OUT YET. Have some respect...

For fucks sake, it's like they all forgot Death Stranding hasn't even released yet. Try to have some consideration for those of us consciously trying to avoid the coverage, it's not a lot to ask.

Some pretty zealous followers of Jeff Cannata's Unsullied movement. I like it!

Death Stranding is a new game and the embargo to write or talk about it is up, so it makes sense for them to give their thoughts here. To their credit, I don't think they got in to too many spoiler-y things, but that's just me.

It would be nice if the staff could have some time stamps in the show notes. I think it would be worth any delay it causes.

While I don't agree with his opinions on MGSV, I definitely wholly agree and appreciate Jeff tackling the "Oh, so it's a Kojima game?" (Both as an insult and a defense) people. There is a pretty wide gulf in tone and storytelling between the MGS games and what DS has shown (and also MGSV, imo, which is part of why I didn't like that game).

I'm glad to see that Ben's back.

I didn't understand Jeff's point with D4's aesthetic. Yes, it's dark and since the game is called Diablo I think that's fitting. Besides, we really don't get a lot of "dark/metal" games these days so I think it's pretty cool that they are going down this road.

Feel like Ben is being a little dismissive of OW2. People have been clamoring for more PvE content for years, and Jeff's right that people really love the characters. I don't really care about the story at all, but the missions look like a fun change of pace from the regular PvP stuff. I've got over 1000 hours in the game across different versions and any new content is okay by me.

@seventytwotransformations: The way people are going on about it I feel like I listened to a different podcast. There is nothing but discussion of some mechanics and vague reference to the story and the style of Kojima.

The thing that became clear to me about the statement the blizzard president made is that there was no way for the commentators to do their job and not get fired over it. The president stated that the focus should be on 'the games, the winners & the stories'. So after a winner emerges and it's the guy from Hong Kong that brings a mask with him... How do you focus on this winner & his story without letting him do the talking?

It also immediatly made me wonder whether it would be okay for people to thank god or their gay partner after winning a tournament. Well that would be totally fine because that wouldn't shut down access to a growth market i presume.

If Diablo 4 is a 2020 game then the developers interviewed during the event don't know that. According to them Diablo 4 is "Blizzard early" at the moment. I don't expect it until 2021.

Overwatch 2 sounds like someone said, "Yeah...but how can we monetize an update?" I honestly expect OW2 to be $60. Calling what they are doing "story" or "campaign" is hilarious. Blizzcon 2019 was the first time I could say the entire company plan = "We are doing exactly what Activision wants us to." I hope I'm wrong but even just the announcement of microtransaction in Diablo 4 bums me tf out.

Yeah the PvE in OW2 is going to be super popular if Blizzard don't drop the ball. Like you said, people have been wanting more PvE and story in the game since literally release day. The announcement of OW2 seems like giving people exactly what they're asking for. I could easily see the OW2 PvE stuff becoming more popular than the PvP over time. I believe Blizzard has come out and said that the co-op PvE stuff in SC2 is more popular than the traditional PvP mode.

The gameplay videos of the PvE map available at Blizzcon looked like a lot of fun. Though I am curious how they'll flesh it out, because it seemed pretty barebones.

Dang, I was looking forward to the Worst Song of the 80s list at the end, but it wasn't even referenced. Did they decide to kill that segment?

The only way the Death Stranding conversation spoils anything is if you've been actively avoiding any and all trailers.

Also Ben is completely wrong about who would want PvE in Overwatch 2: it has always been the #1 thing people in that community have wanted in a sequel since the original launched, outside of an actual full on campaign.

@brad: I don’t think you spoiled anything other than the game mechanics. You even left Sam’s full name out, and I’m pretty sure that was put out during pre-release. Maybe they’re talking about the Diehardman thing.

I just want a game to take one thing like money and just replace it with the deadpan reading of slang versions of that word read by Jeff. Jeff should not be the character hire some other voice actor but I just want like Chedder read by Jeff in deadpan randomly replacing that word.
