Yes! Though the lack of attack move is a real hard adjustment at first. But who can be mad at Seth on a green screen?

I really don't like Jeff's overlays. It was a funny joke the first time for a few minutes, but it isn't anymore to me. Especially for a quick look, I want to see how well the remaster was handled, and it being so small makes that harder than it should be..

I think the best part of this QL was Dan begging for a match of Red Alert in the chat.

This stream instantly got worse around 8:00 when Jeff turned down the audio.

Half kidding, but man I love Frank Klepacki's C&C soundtrack.

I don't watch a lot of this stuff live, but having the overlays take up more screen space than the game is a little weird.

Just started watching and I am only 15 minutes in so not sure if Jeff discovers this later but you can make the game control like a modern RTS in the Options.

I have been playing this since launch and I am really enjoying it.

It is a good value for 20 dollars, tons of missions.

EDIT: Jeff went into options just as I was typing this. Oh well.

I'm shocked Jeff thinks the old graphics "look better". It looks so crisp and nice, smoother, and detailed in a way where things don't just become a muddled mix of pixels when clustered up. Even if the old one is nostalgic.

Crazy that Jeff thinks the new textures aren't fitting. They seem to fit fine and look great imo. It's really too bad they didn't have the original videos. The videos are just as important to these games than the actual game parts.

I also agree about that overlay. Good god. Why?

Agreed. If it's a personal, play whatever stream sure, but an official quick look, please just be video of the game.

Seems like people are freaking out about the stream overlays Jeff's using in this quick look. First thought that came to mind for me was "I wonder if this wasn't meant to be a quick look until either a bit into the stream or perhaps even after the stream was over? Or he simply just forgot/didn't have the time to fix it beforhand and just went with it?"

I didn't browse the site a lot all monday, so I didn't catch if it was scheduled to be a live quick look or not.

Either way, it's not a big deal. If you think it's a big deal, considering the circumstances, you really need to reconsider where your priorities lies.

Anyway, watching this has inspired me to both go back and play the original games, since I'm probably not going to pick this up just yet.

I'm also inspired to re-watch the videos from the bonus DVD that came with Command & Conquer: The First Decade collection.
A lot of great interviews and behind the scenes of C&C and Westwood Studios. If you, like me, enjoy learning more about gaming history and watching documentaries on the subject, then I highly recommend checking out this playlist.

Welcome back commander.

@astrophyle: Agreed. Especially in this game. Game volume needs to be CRANKED.

Jeff forgot one of the ten commandments while playing. Though shalt not lower the volume of a Command & Conquer game when Frank Klepacki's music is ripping.

I played Red Alert first as a kid and loved it. I never liked C&C as much but still played it. Had it both on PC and PS1. Too bad Tiberian Sun isn't here as I think that has the best campaign of all C&C games. I used to have the big box versions of all these games but I just have a DVD case version of Red Alert now.

Zapp Brannigan sums up my RTS strategy pretty well: "You see, killbots have a preset kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them until they reached their limit and shut down. Kif, show them the medal I won."

I love C&C, glad to see this looks good. Jeff's new CBS presents - intro is also cool.

I think Jeff does a disservice to the games he covers when he puts shit all over the screen, but I guess he's in too deep now with his ironic overlays to stop.

@toxicantidote: Can't speak for everybody, but on a personal level I don't like the overlays at all (funny at first glance and annoying afterwards), but I wouldn't say I'm freaking out about it. It's entertainment, it's purpose is to be entertaining, and in that sense I think the overlays are awful and actively making it tougher for me to watch. I can't imagine potential new viewers like it either, but hey, maybe they have data that says otherwise.

As for the "if you think it's such a big deal, your priorities aren't right!" rhetoric, just stop. Nobody is implying this is bigger than the protests or COVID or Hong Kong or whatever other local or personal issue, but it's not helpful to minimize one issue because another, bigger issue exists, because a bigger issue always exists.

I had a Mac growing up, so I remember loving this game as it was one of the few that was actually released on the Mac. Although I always really, really wanted Red Alert.

Looking at this, I'm kinda disappointed they didn't give it just a few tiny gameplay upgrades at the same time. Things like how you can sometimes select multiple missions from the map screen, but you don't get to preview what the mission is before committing. I might be misremembering, but I recall certain routes being a lot harder, particularly on the GDI side.

As far as the graphical upgrades go, I can see both sides of the argument. Does it look nicer? Yes. Is it a massive upgrade? No. In fact, before Jeff swapped the textures, I could have been fooled into thinking that he was using the original graphics. It isn't such a huge upgrade that it seems to affect gameplay in a hugely positive way. Given that, I can see why some people would prefer pure nostalgia over sharper resolutions.

Absolutely love this remaster. Of course sad that the video quality isn't great, but they put out some video explaining why that is. My only real issue with the remastered graphics is that the new water tiles don't repeat very well. The soundtrack is also missing one song, the NOD end theme song Destructible Times. Not sure why that is, since it was Frank Klepacki's band. Bummer anyway, since it was a great song.

It can be heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgfVqpxs4CI

This video really takes me back to the days of playing Doom. In that the actually gameplay takes up a fucking postage-stamp-sized part of the screen.
