I completely forgot that this game series existed.

Fame Douglas had still had room for Mai and presumably either Blue Mary or Shermie, but no quarter for Sarah Bryant or Akira? I HAVE MISGIVINGS ABOUT THE SEEDING OF THIS TOURNAMENT

Seems like a downgraded Tekken.

This series was always the most boring of fighting games for me. I always saw it as a simple man's Tekken.

DOA has always been the smoothest and most fun 3D fighter for me. The animations just flow so well it's a blast.

This one is looking especially nice. Hope the negative PR doesn't ruin the game's chances and it gets into more major fighting game tournaments.

Edit: The negativity of some people here in the comments is really off-putting.

@chummy8: Because it is. Though it beats out Tekken in the jiggly boobs and skimpy costumes game, so that's a plus for some, I guess.

It's hard for me personally to take the DoA games seriously when they really try to give the impression that gameplay is secondary to "bewbs".

Also, before anyone points out that all the other fighting games have lingerie-fighters...yes, I understand that, but those other games play it straight as if none of those costumes are out-of-the-ordinary, unlike DoA's "I Must Capture all the Bewbie Ladies and Force Them to Play Volleyball and Dress-Up for My Pleasure on My Private Island Gulag" .

EDIT: I *do* like the hit effects in this game, over Tekken and Soul Calibur's "every punch looks like a fireworks display" approach.

Ok, I'll agree that this does look pretty fun! But yikes, that French accent makes me worried that Helena's VA is going to swallow her own tongue.

@tredik: If they put Akira and Sarah back in they aught to at least give them proper mastered voice lines instead of just bringing over the old low quality sounding voice lines lol. It was really jarring.

Wasnt the whole pitch for DOA6 that they were taking it seriously as a fighting game, and cutting down on jiggle physics and all that? That... doesn't seem to be the case.

Something about the animations on moves just seem off to me.

@vicious17: I was among those that were waiting for how fast they would be walking back on those words. This happened nearly exactly with the Dead or Alive 5, and we all know how many costumes that eventually got!

Eh, the early ones maybe but I think DOA5 was about on par with Tekken in terms of depth, and it animates better.

The fanservice doesn't really do anything for me, but it looks slightly less in your face even if it's still there under the surface.

Also I don't think having tons of DLC costumes really matters since it's all just cosmetics, so you can just ignore it.

I haven't played a DoA since Ultimate 2. If the PC port is good I'm pretty excited to check this one out.

I would say DOA is closer to Virtua Fighter than Tekken.

I'm excited for this game and I hope the PC version isn't lacking this time around. They showed the PC version on that EVO Japan stream, so I would guess it's fine if they're showing it off.

Aww, hell yeah, original Drunken Master is back on Netflix?!? One of the absolute best :D

I expected this to look better to be honest, it's especially apparent in story cut scenes that they poor animations and lip syncing. The textures overall look pretty low les for a Dead or Alive game released in 2019 and called DOA6. Expected a better upgrade from 5.

Since nobody seemed to know: It seems they are using the same model as DOA5, with several "seasons" of content (DOA5 had 7 season passes I believe), but the majority of the season pass cost comes from the costumes. I believe Mai and the second mystery SNK character are going to be the only characters for Season Pass 1.

Also hearing the english voices makes me appreciate the quality of voicework from DOA sfms a lot more.

Yeah, DOA is literally a rehash of Virtua Fighter; the first game was built off of VF directly. Of course the DOA series' inventor, Tomonobu Itagaki, also very famously hates Tekken and went out of his way to make the DOA series as un-Tekken like as possible. (Though it should be noted that Itagaki has many, many awful opinions about many subjects, is a terrible person in general, and it's widely agreed that it's a good thing he is gone.) DOA has nothing to do or in common with Tekken other than they're both 3D. Comparing DOA (or VF) to Tekken is like comparing Mortal Kombat to Street Fighter. (In fact you can kind of say that DOA is the Injustice to Virtua Fighter's Mortal Kombat.)

Quick Look was better than i expected, most of the early ignorance came from Ben.

Legend of Drunken Master is the 2nd Drunken Master movie (and the better of the two).

I'm a very casual fighting game fan and always liked the combo and counter systems in DOA. There's something about the smoothness of the animations that I appreciate. The costume design has always put me off and it doesn't look like this is an exception, but it does look a bit less ridiculous than the last one.

I will never not be bummed out by the bad rap DOA gets.

I understand why people might be turned off by the jiggle physics and bikini costumes, but it's always been something that doesn't have to be engaged with through options and alternate costumes, and it always ends up dominating any discussion about this series. Even with this fairly positive look at the game, the final things they say aren't at all about the fighting mechanics but about how 'skeezy' it seems or might become.

DOA to me has always been the easiest pick up and play fighting game since it's essentially a 3-button game and there are so many easy strings that it's accessible and fun to just mash through a fight without knowing what you're doing. In this comment thread, too, you can see such an instant dismissive attitude through comparisons to Tekken of all things (which is really only similar in that they're both 3D fighters), yet no one ever mentions DOA's fairly complex combo break and stun system that I find is more akin to the new KI than anything else.

I've personally had so much fun with this franchise, seeing it constantly reduced down to titty fighter like that's all it is is such a bummer.

I'm most curious about that license suspension notice they got at 31:57... If that's just because it's a prerelease version they have and the check isn't in the final game then fine, but if that's always online DRM then there's a big problem. I really hope it's the former. That said, if shit like that has been sneaking into release games and journalists aren't pointing it out, that's a huge disservice to their readers to not warn them.
