Demo Derby: PlayStation Underground: Volume 2 Issue 1

This concludes my trilogy of contributions to Demo Derby (I gave these Undergrounds to Drew at PAX last year). Hope y'all enjoy the MST3K stuff in this issue. The guys don't catch on immediately, but the MST3K guys are making fun of the intros to the first four issues (this is the 5th).

As for the "we're going to teach you how to make a game segment," it did pay off, but it took more than a year. The result was a game called Project Wormhole, which was a fully playable game and similar to N₂O Nitrous Oxide.

I Love Demo Derby!

Yeah, this series is awesome, but it sucks when the audio conflicts ruin a moment. I have no idea what Kaz Hirai was talking about in that interview when Jeff said, "Whoa, got serious there for a moment!"

Take me to the Playstation Underground. I want to see it.

In 10-20 years a history of gaming website (or whatever they will have in the future) will find this video and talk over it.

Speaking of making auto purchase decisions around it, I imported an R32 GTR (the one Kazunori actually mentions buying) to the US last year. Had to wait 15 years before it was legal though. When I was young and complaining about stupid arbitrary laws, I never thought the day would come where we could import these cars.

Giant bomb watching MST3K stuff is weird and cool.

Jeff being in these was one of the best additions to a feature ever. Nothing against the Drew and Dan only early ones [they are great too] but Jeff just adds a lot to these. I love this series.

Also MST3k is my favorite show of all time, and half the reason I first came to this website when it was released is it reminded me a lot of MST3K but for video games [for some videos... when it was quick looks over bad games. Obviously not scripted but had a similar style to me that made me fall in love with this site.

When I first got Street Fighter 4 for XBox 360 I still had an SD TV and I would have to put my face up to the TV to try and read the move list and even then a lot of it was too blurry to make out.

SAAAAME regarding MST3K. I'm watching it right now.

I always love some Demo Derby. I do agree that the addition of Jeff made this great series the best series and turned it into an educational experience with his takes and past with a lot of these games.

There is something way too meta about watching GB talk over an MST3K commentary that is talking over the demo disc.

@ericfine: I think the Joel/Mike "debate" follows the same rule as favorite Mario Karts, Mike was hosting when I discovered MST3K so he's my favorite. While I'll admit Joel has some bangers that are in my top 10 episodes, overall I prefer Mike's delivery.

Man, things got weird during the last couple of years MST3K was running. I had no idea they did a thing for Playstation. Did they talk over anything else in the late 90s? Episodes of Dharma and Greg, maybe?

MR has never heard of Nintendo Power apparently.

I still love the Giant Bomb farmville videos with the interns. Shame those weren't more popular at the time.

@donchipotle: I admit it's not a perfect system, but yeah Mike absolutely kills it when it comes to sci-fi, I think I've seen Space Mutiny, Parts: The Clonus Horror and Overdrawn at the Memory Bank more times than I've seen the Star Wars trilogy.
