Persona 4 walkthrough I use:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/945498/53550

Ya the first few bosses are tough, but requires little strategy, main problem for them especially this king boss is that you chars lack HP. Simple remedy is just to be overleveled and make sure to keep fusing personas that are at your level or at least not to far behind your level. Another thing to remember is that your main char takes on the stats/strengths/weaknesses of the currently equiped persona. For this particular boss I recommend that you have a persona with str against like physical just like the one you fused.

Against the rampage attack that killed you all, just make sure that everyone is at full health for a majority of the time. Dont be afraid to cast that debuff to lower his attack, while using the evasion buff on yourself(last 3 turns, not bad in my opinion)

One last thing after beating this boss DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE ROOM, THERE USUALLY IS A REWARD ON THE FLOOR SOMEWHERE. I think in this case its behind the throne.

1)Blah blah don't ignore support skills blah. If an enemy debuffs you, use Dekunda to get rid of the debuff; if an enemy buffs up, use Dekaja to get rid of their buff. -kunda skills debuff the enemy, and you should really only use those until you get party buffs(unless there really IS one specific person who depserately needs a buff). There are a few items(like the Super Sonic you got at one point) that cast buffs on your party for free, but since you can only get them from chests it's best to save them for when you really need them.
Really, the difference in damage/hit rate between a normal stat-ed enemy/party and a debuffed enemy/buffed party is tremendous. This is especially important with the next major boss, since he uses a skill that increases all of his stats in one turn(which spells major pain for you if you don't have someone Dekaja him afterwards).

2)You don't have to grind much, if at all, anymore. No, really. The two parts of the game where I've found myself grinding are at the castle(since Shadow Yukiko is difficult as hell) and right at the end(and that's only because I wanted to be able to fuse the highest level persona - I easily could have beaten the boss at a lower level if I wanted to). Note that if you don't go through the entirety of every floor and beat every shadow on your way up to the boss, you may very well end up underleveled and WILL have to grind. Please make things easier on yourself(and more fun to watch for us) and fight the shadows while it DOESN'T feel like grinding. ;P

GRIND GRIND GRIND. Most, if not all, JRPGs are all about grinding. The first few bosses are all about level grinding. Go through those dungeons a couple of times at least to make sure you have enough HP and don't forget persona fusions and social links.

Listen to what TriangleHard says, man. Resist Physical FTW. Just get a stronger Persona to inherit that when you fuse later so that you retain Resist Physical later on until you get Repel Physical.

Oh yeah, Personas that are created via fusion are registered automatically, FYI.

There were a few times this game genuinely pissed me off too. Such as when an enemy uses an insta-kill on the main character and it's game over with no chance to stop it.

I think that's really misleading, because the rest of the castle had such weaksauce monsters, to throw such a hard boss in is not a clever move. They should have made the whole dungeon harder to warn noobier parties away from attempting it.

I do think that this is the only death throughout the entire ER... I THINK, so for 2 guys "fumbling" around to only (cheaply) die one time, is not that bad.

I think there is another one somewhere later on, I'm pretty sure, because it was where charlie get killed and thats it and they get game over, they didn't know that if the main character dies it's game over.

Man these comments are depressing. Relax! Like we didn't all made these mistakes.. Also I always thought these were Endurance Runs and not "How To Play a Game Perfectly".

Honestly I'm surprised we even got the Deadly Premonition ER's later on...

As much as I love this game, they REALLY dropped the ball with the optional bosses. They're ridiculously strong, but the enemies on the way up to them are just as weak as they were before. They should've jacked up the power of the enemies so you could at least get some decent XP on the way up (or be better prepared for a hard fight).

@Undeadpool: You're not supposed to immediately go back up the dungeon and fight the optional bosses. For the most part you should finish the next dungeon or two then go back to fight the optional bosses

That was the other half of my point, though: You're VASTLY underpowered for bosses if you go back immediately, but vastly overpowered for the ENTIRE dungeon if you go back when you're ready. So it's a boring slog through the dungeon on the way to the proper boss.

I had very little difficulty with the optional bosses when I went back right away, except this first one. That one is super hard if you try it right away.

That aside: they STILL should have either removed the enemies entirely (just let you transport right up to the optional boss) OR made them worth fighting for XP/money.

True, I kinda just ran around them, you can make it to the top again in like 5 minutes because the enemies won't notice you.

Not after clearing the dungeon the first time...it resets your teleportation when you go back for the optional boss.

Yeah better to just run past the enemies that are small and have the small vision cone.

It's amazing how much Vinny just can't think on his own and he takes Jeff mumbling a suggestion as this iron-clad order to be followed forever. For instance trying out Skull Cracker, finding out it's ineffective , yet wanting to do it again on Chie's next turn. These kinds of things make it so hard to watch. Or fusing Jack Frost, then going into the Compendium and immediately going to buy Jack Frost! Oh wait, I think we already have him... Seriously though.
