@jeremyf: I think Dan will use his powers to steer the conversation into his evergreen love of Metal Gear and possibly without an ounce of snark say that he loves Kojima's "good games." At which point PR will lead Kojima to other guests.

@shiro2809: Maybe they were after moderation, but on last week's podcast some users were really awful. Some people lack self-awareness I guess, but I'm happy that Vinny called them out, maybe that way they'll realize that you can't force people to play a game, or play it the way you want them to, or defend the game from "unfair" coverage. Like other posts said, at least they are playing it, be happy with that, it's better than no coverage at all.

I find it hard to believe Jeff and Abby haven't had issues with some of these weapons in Modern Warfare. the 729(Shotgun), Claymore and M4 all have been a massive issues for players along with the crazy amount of camping happening on the maps.

Bakalar was completely right about the 729. I don't even play the game and I'm aware of this problem because it's all over YouTube. It was kind of cheap to ridicule him about this.

Good on Vinny for addressing the rabid Disco Elysium fans who have spent the past two weeks being absolutely awful in various comment sections on here.

lol he actually said they should "shut the fuck up", which is a bit harsh? It's kind of a childish way to lash out at people. If I told a crew member or somebody here to "shut the fuck up" I'd probably get my post deleted, or worse... and rightfully so, because that's not how you should speak to others.

As for the M4 and 725 - they're still incredibly strong after the nerf IMO.

Wow, Jeff complains about the 725 shotgun on the Giant Beastcast and by the afternoon Activision releases a patch neffing it. Dudes got some serious sway, flexing that CNET muscle.

Its crazy how divided people are on Disco and Stranding. Its really spans the gamut. Was surprised to hear the East crew not digging Outer Worlds that much compared to the West crew.

Made for some boring discussions. At least the rest of the podcast was good.

I love Disco Elysium but after seeing what other fans have said, I think they need to get a grip. Personally attacking people over their opinions about any game is uncalled for. There are absolutely ways to disagree with what the crew says about a game without calling their ability into question.

Like Alex said, I think part of the fervor around this game is that us fans of isometric CRPG's don't get a ton of these, let alone ones we think are good. So, unfortunately the "passion" can come out in unacceptable ways. And like Jason Schreier says in his review on Kotaku, Disco's initial impression is that of a cynical, everything sucks society. That's intentional, but it is front-loaded, and I can see how it might attract people who live to be shitty to people online.

Basically, while I think Disco is a great game that does a lot to advance the genre, there's no part of it (or any game) that is good enough to warrant saying the shit that I've seen directed at the crew.

Disco Elysium is probably going to be my GOTY (at least top 3) but people have been really shitty towards Abby, once again. I don't blame Vinny for being a little sour at this point.

Also, if you've played and loved it do you really need confirmation bias from a podcast? It'll be recognized on sites like PC Gamer come GOTY season I'm sure. Just like D:OS2 was a few years ago.

I don't think I read all the comments, I didn't see a whole lot of sexist stuff, and while I'm sure it was there I don't think it's fair to equate all criticism with the sexist drivel on display. The sentiment I saw was "Abby doesn't like or really understand/connect with these kinds of games so she won't like this game", which AFAIK is true. That's not a shot at Abby or anything.

I was actually very proud of her for not bringing it up or being outwardly upset about it, I thought it incredibly big of her to take the high road. Even if she brought it up and said how most of the games fans are overbearing and mean, I'd still think highly of her... "shut the fuck up" though is the low road, but that wasn't Abby.

That's a great picture and finding out what it's used for makes it all the more perfect.

GB's frequently abusive members of its fanbase gets absolutely coddled by the crew relative to what the worst offenders deserve. Quietly deleting comments without publicly noting that that behavior is disgusting (like on the podcast, for example) only creates the illusion for some that that behavior doesn't actually happen ("I read the comments on that Disco Elysium Quick Look and they weren't even bad!") or, to those making the comments, that there are no real cultural consequences.

You're right, being cruel to others is not appropriate, but if you speak to or about the crew that way, you absolutely deserve to be told to shut the fuck up by them.

I get the impression that people here tend think this kind of response is alienating. Maybe it should be. Maybe the community and the crew alike should alienate shitheads who feel that they are entitled to to shit all over content and staff members.

If someone I hired and work with all the time was getting sexist abuse by people claiming to like my workplace I might be pissed too. Vinny was (if anything) letting people off easy by just doing a blanket statement.

I'll say I 100% got super uninterested in Disco Elysium after getting a glimpse of the general comments of a lot of fans. I usually try to separate the fandom from the actual thing but this might be the first time I just couldn't.

All in all, I'll say I really appreciated Vinny outright saying what he said.

Interesting. Never thought about whether I cared about his opinion, he seemed more on the announcer side and less of the review/writer side (not that this was accurate, just from what I HAD seem him do).

Anyway, he is wrong, or perhaps rather ignorant about games and game history, and probably not well read (or something else that is much less nice to say). Or he was stoned. Probably stoned.

There is a middle ground between addressing a specific breed of vile comment and a blanket "those fans need to shut the fuck up". I get that callout culture dictates that the masses be delighted by others being yelled at, and get their hit of schadenfreude when a fan of this game (like me) has to defend themselves here, but I don't really think that's fair at all.

I think in a lot of cases it's just easier to lump in all the criticism/discussion with the death threats/hate speech/everything bad and just say "look at how mean all of my detractors are". There is a message between the shitty posts that gets lost because "hey these guys are being assholes, shut the fuck up already".

But hey what do I know I was told to shut the fuck up :/

He's addressing the ones who have been absolutely awful. Just last week, he responded politely to a fan of the game who WASN'T an asshole in the comments.

That's fair I guess, "you know who's hitting me? those fans need to shut the fuck up." just felt like the meat of what he wanted to say, and everything beyond that a kind of vague clarification... but I understand the charitable interpretation of "rabid" fans who were being "rude".

As for taking it personally, I honestly can't recall a time when he sounded that angry. It shocked my snowflake sensibilities. I'm not like emotionally distraught or anything, just taken aback.

TFW you think a video game deserves more respect than a person

@shootfast: I get it, but Disco Elysium is a game that demands a bit more from the average gamer than 99% of games these days. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but it's a game that can easily turn off a lot of people within the first hour. They decided, and probably correctly, to throw a character like Cuno at you right off the bat. He is wholly unsavory and offensive. He sets a tone for the world, but that tone is not for everyone. And that is on top of a game that requires the gamer to buy in to more of a chose your own adventure than a standard isometric RPG. None of that is to take away from what Disco Elysium is, but it's kind of like saying Fight Club is a crowd pleasing movie. Those that connect with it will have a great experience, but not everyone can dig through the muck to connect with the underlying product.

Can someone provide me the time-stamp for the whole Disco Elysium thing? I'd like to listen to this, but as someone who would like to avoid feeling like I'm being told to go fuck myself I'd like to skip past that bit. For clarification, I know Vinny isn't saying that to me for things I have done, I just personally have a bad reaction (from my childhood mostly) to being yelled at, or having a group my brain knee-jerk would put myself in being so. (Don't bully people kids, it sticks with some of us).

Also..why are people so shitty. Like I think I fit the stereotype pretty well of people I am hearing did so. I really liked that game, I was disappointed with the QL for it. But not like, angry about it? It was more like how I'd be disappointed if I really liked the new Sims expansion, and Ben talked to Brad about it with no Abby input. Or, I dunno, The QL of the new american trucking simulator starred Dan and Abby.

At the very worst I might say I was disappointed that it felt like the game wasn't for Abby. But that's not even a hot take, Abby said so herself in the opening moments of the quick look! Like, both her and Alex gave very clear indications of where they were coming from and the expertise/taste they brought too the game. Just like everyone who does QLs do. Sure I might have prefered someone who was more naturally into the genre or had a direct fondness for the game? But Vinny was on vacation, no one else at the time was playing it and so on. It surprised me that Abby gave the game the time of day actually, and saddened me more that it turned out to be something she couldn't enjoy (for reasons she made very clear and articulated well, agree with them or not) last week.

So uh, tl;dr, "What's the time stamp for Vinny's comments on Disco Elysium?" asking to avoid potentially being triggered by past trauma on my part. Thanks.

forgive me, im a sucker. Utah is about to pass an almost 5 percent tax on foods. this tax is obscene. for no reason. we are implementing a tax cut( who does that help) and taxing one of the basic human rights to live.. as well as vetinery clinics and a whole lot more.
