Damn man...ten years ago? I was at that E3, not as press of course. I was one of those people that didn't belong there (Random Gamestop Employee) and was just crowding up the kiosks. Played Red Steel on the Wii, got some pointless swag that even I thought didn't make any sense being there and then just kind of floated from booth to booth. Good times.

As for the PS3 presentation itself: The price was high of course, but that didn't sway me much in 2006 when I was actually there. I recall watching that Assassin's Creed trailer over and over again, getting all amped up for it. Even the Meme-Ready crabs and awkward stage demos couldn't push me away. Now though, I can look at this video and realize that, even after all this time, I never picked up on Sony's hubris until when that short man in his white suit leaned up against a polished pedestal and said, without saying a word, that "You're going to buy this so why should I even try? We're just that awesome and you know it."

Finally, ten years later, I feel a bit ashamed to call myself a Sony fan considering how much ego-stroking was going on up on that stage. Make no mistake, I'm glad the crew went back and took us along for the ride, but now I feel kinda dirty.

If you were to call this Tame Gapes, it would sound like a pretty underwhelming niche porno.

I was so looking forward to Warhawk because of this press conference but then later it was a multiplayer only game which destroyed all enthusiasm I had for it. Also Phil Harrison has always been bad at presenting games.

Sometimes, I feel like people blow the PS3's "failure" way out of proportion. Yes, almost everything about this was an incredible misstep. But it didn't doom the console for the entire generation; it didn't stay that way. I entered in late at 2010 with a PS3 slim, and I never had a single issue, complaint, or disappointment. It was a perfectly fine console. Still is. The fact that Sony managed to come from this mess and turn around the PS3, and then move onto the PS4 and what that is, shows they're capable of something. And, to be fair, the Xbone will probably manage to follow a similar path. Especially since that launch was not quite at the same level of mess as shown here.

But, more on topic - yeah this is kind of boring in its entirety. That sizzle reel of goofs makes it seem a lot more fantastical than it really is.

The PS3/360 launches has to be the first console launches I really remember. I was a big PS2 kid at about 8 or 10, but I was barely 6 when it originally launched.

The image turnaround Sony pulled over the lifetime of the PS3 is insane. The thing was $1000 AUD in Australia and almost the constant butt of jokes. It was seen a rich kids toy, and that's not something you want when selling a games console. The idea that Sony would enter the next generation as the strongest player was an absolutely ludicrous idea. And yet, here we are.

The PS3 had a very slow start. Everything was being developed with the 360 in mind, and all the PS3 had to offer was a handful of interesting games (some of which just shoehorned in tilt controls) and bad ports with terrible bugs or framerate. It wasn't dooming, but when people said "PS3 has no games" they meant that you have almost no reason to get a PS3 over a 360.

The 360 launched at $300 or $400, with the PS3 costing $500 or $600 with less games to show off and launching after the 360 to boot.

If Sony didn't have the brand awareness from the PS2 days, and the ability and cash to jump up and respond to Microsoft they would be in the same spot as Sega right now.

The first like 5 years of the PS3 were a train wreck, it was only saved by the long life cycle the 360 had.

I never understood the Genji part of the meme. He said it was taking place on a historic battlefield, not that it was a realistic representation of that battle. If I remember correctly Genji was based of some old Japanese epic tale. And I never played this one, but I thought the first game for the PS2 was quite good.

Also, Heavenly Sword wasn't a great game, but the acting and characters were amazing. Especially Andy Serkis's role and that touched little sister character.

Man I'd rather see these conferences all about the numbers than the cringe-fest we get now. Full of buzzwords and hype...All show no substance.

All they did for "Gran Tursismo HD" was upscale Gran Turismo 4 to 1080p at 60fps, GT5 Prologue was the first game of the real "HD" era of Gran Turismo.

I was 20 years old when I watched this on Gamespot. I am now 33 years old and I can tell you with certainty, I HAVE BEEN HAD! I bought into everything, I thought it was the greatest console ever made. In reality, I played Resistance Fall of Man for a year before something of actual good quality came out on the system. I think Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first thing I actually respected. Good god, I can't believe I was tricked into spending $800 for a 20 GB system from eBay because I bought into the messaging so hard (and couldn't get a PS3 in store). Kids, save your god damn money. Don't be fooled, but maybe that shit just comes with age. Wisdom, woo, comes in small doses.

I was a big PS3 fan in its time, but I crunched the numbers and realized that I didn't actually buy one until 2011. So it was eventually a great console.

I'm one of the people who would love another Heavenly Sword. The game is really messy but a great way to kill an afternoon. Also, Andy Serkis and the other villains are chewing ALL the scenery and are absolutely amazing.
