Press play and accidentally skip forward to 19:12 and hear "Hot Piss Froth". I then press pause and go cry in the corner for the rest of the night.

When they were talking about Cards Against Humanity and mentioned his astronauts card, that was the first time I've ever been offended by anything CAH related. So congratulations.

While I was listening to the CAU segment, I was wondering how long it would take Jeff to bring up Kreayshawn for a card.

Here is the brain scan thing, for Vinny. It's interesting but as Brad said very rough still. Moving images though. It's pretty interesting.

: Most game cartridges use BR2032 which has a lower self-discharge rate than CR. A CR might keep a CMOS and its clock going ok for about 5-10 years depending on how often the computer is actually turned on. BRs seem to keep saves viable in a cartridge for two decades, clearly.

If you're looking to replace cartridge batteries, it makes sense to go for the same longevity and reduce the number of future attempts. I've bought BRs from this ebay seller. Not very many retail stores will reliably carry BRs, they'll just say CRs are compatible. I doubt anyone in my town would sell them.

Getting the wrapped kind with contact leads already attached makes soldering really easy. It's tricky but possible to wire the cart to hotswap the battery, but if you're that dedicated you should probably be dumping your saves digitally also. ;)

Vitamin C doesn't really work that way. Emergen-C (or however they spell it) is a scam, like almost anything under the 'supplement' moniker.

@Nikzilla90: You probably don't want to know. It was not very interesting or involved, and from an MGS fan's perspective it was just awful.

@Nikzilla90: However, if you want a different perspective on it, check out the 8-4 Play minicast on it. 1/1.5 hrs of chatting about it. They seem to be pretty hyped for it, though I don't particularly see any reason to get excited or anything just yet. ~shrug~

Don't know what all this "I don't want another MGS" talk is about. It's not like these are annual releases like COD or Assassin's Creed and there aren't any other games out there that are even remotely similar.

I am totally ready for another MGS and I'm thankful Kojima is doing another one (and another one).

If you are going to want a high end PC for the next generation: just go for a reasonably high end machine in every aspect but video card, and then just go for like a GTX570, upgrade to the next big video card upgrade, probably whatever nVidia does next. Don't worry about CPU/RAM. As long as you go for at least 8 GB of RAM (though 16 isn't much more expensive, memory is dirt cheap!) and a good CPU, you'll be fine. In order to make a "future proof" rig right now you'd need a 2011 socket, and those are very limited and I think all very high end (like $500+ CPUs). You'd be fine with an 1155 Ivy Bridge Quad Core and 16GB of decent DDR3 RAM for the entirety of the next generation, I'm sure. The video card might need one upgrade after the next consoles launch, but that's about it. Most everything else will last a lot longer as they tend to do a lot less growth in games. 16GB might seem crazy, but considering how much more RAM PC games can use than your 512MB in a 360, I'd say the relatively low price would be worth it. Maybe consider also getting an SSD after the next generation of consoles, because by then the prices will (probably) be easy to swallow for a large drive. But unless Durango or Orbis use SSDs out of the box, I doubt that'll be something you'll need until it's affordable.

Bomb Crew: Recording the output of the Oculus Rift is as simple as actually record the output from the video card. To play back on another Oculus Rift play back the video in fullscreen mode (might have to change the desktop resolution, unless it has a built in scaler) and you're good. I absolutely see video demos in the Oculus Rift's future. It will feel weird though, as your own head movements won't do anything.

Great podcast but I have to question Jeff's opinion that Quick Looks and reviews could possibly share some purposes. Yes, some people look at both of them as consumer advice. But the biggest diverging factor is the main reason why you couldn't get rid of reviews.

Reviews are opinions based on sufficient knowledge by the writer while Quick Looks just shows what the game is about. For me, these are completely different puposes. I played a fair share of games that looked cool in the Quick Look, just to find out I don't like it. That's why I only think about Quick Looks as entertainment.

Hate to sound like a dick, but Ryan asking Patrick if he's played Slender sounded like a joke. He's written at least three stories about it on the website he works for.

I swelled up with nerd pride when they started talking about how much they died in the first action sequence in Walking Dead Ep 3. First try I dealt out nothing but headshots with a quickness. Not a single miss.

As you can imagine, I have the exact opposite opinion on the quality of this sequence than Vinny and Patrick.

It's interesting listening to Vinny's impressions of TWD considering his current situation:

Having a child and having to face killing someone elses child so they won't turn into a zombie. Also trying to take care of Clem...

Where as, with a Quick Look, you can see the game, hear people talk about it( saying if the controls feel weird, etc etc) and get a feeling for the gameplay style. So you can come to a decent conclusion in a lot of cases if a game is something you would at least want to try. Personally i never read reviews, I watch a quick look and decide from there if i want to rent the game(if i can) or play a demo.

Yes. But I do like MGS2 a lot. Snake Eater (and then especially Subsistence) is probably my favorite game of last gen, period.

Brad and Patrick being "taken advantage of" by that girl demanding Vodka was hilarious.

Ryan, "Another seven astronauts" is not appropriate. There are some things which are even beyond the pale for Cards Against Humanity. Custom Giant Bomb Cards Against Humanity sounds utterly cool though. The memes have to surface. 775 million still works.

The Mario 64 speedrunners that got mentioned are Siglemicand Honey, who are both NUTS. They play on real-ass Nintendo consoles, because emulators tend to run faster due to lag differences.

Personally i never read reviews, I watch a quick look and decide from there if i want to rent the game(if i can) or play a demo.

But there are also plenty of cases where a quick look is not sufficient coverage. The biggest offender I can think of off the top of my head is Brad and Asura's Wrath. He went in to that with the most negative outlook possible, and it wasn't until towards the very end that he seemed to come around on it. However, if all you watch is the beginning and decide from the largely negative attitude that "Alright, I guess this game is crap" and turn it off, you really miss out. The review for that game is largely glowing and entirely necessary. And frankly, I look to reviews coupled with quick looks for just about all of my purchases. I held off on ordering Sleeping Dog until someone could definitively say 'This game is not balls', because while the preview was promising, I was doubtful. You are completely correct in saying that you can come to decent conclusions about whether a game is something you should ever bother trying a game, but I really (personally) depend on reviews to inform me of the actual quality of the game.

I love their discussion of Metal Gear. How damn insane is that franchise, and how fantastic that fact is.

MGS 1-3 were all mostly perfect to me. I disliked MGS4, but I still completed it 5 or 6 times. A "bad" Metal Gear is still great fun.

I do agree that any more Metal Gears in the past are going to feel pretty contrived though. Peace Walker was really pushing it; that game did not feel relevant at all to the overall arc of the series. That's my only worry for Ground Zeroes, that it will just be more of that.

@Fistfulofmetal: I think having kids has affected how I play TWD. My daughter is almost the same age as Clem too, so I probably project a little bit of my real life into the game. I'm overly protective in game. I was in the 20% too, if you know what I'm saying.

Speaking of events The Walking Dead, you know that episode of The Simpsons where Bart joins the scouts, watches an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon where Itchy makes a tent out of Scratchy and all Bart can do is criticize the knot Itchy uses to tie Scratchy's tongue because it wasn't realistic? I had that moment with the locomotive. I drive trains for a living, including locomotives not dissimilar to the one in game so I have to ask why the fuck wasn't the battery flat? The ones on our trains (made by the good people at General Motors) will last 45 minutes to an hour if the engine is off even if almost all systems are shut down. The train had been there longer than an hour, hadnt it?

(and yes, I know the actual answer is that games have to be fun, not realistic. It was just an oddly specific thing to my vocation in this case so it really stood out to me)
