@pkmango7: Yeah, I think timing has a lot to do with it. That game came out the first week of Hanuary alongside the first Darksiders and a few weeks before Mass Effect 2. It got very good reviews, but that isn't a good time for any game to release let alone a niche Japanese title (give or take an RE4, which also came out the first week of January).

On top of that, there is this weird mystique behind the original. Plus, the Nintendo saving it added to that uniqueness. I really like two and think it plays better than two, but it does not come close to the craziness of the original. I mean Two has a story that I can follow and understand. It doesn't have anything like the climax of the last boss fight.

Brad is wrong, you want to use the Equity in your primary abode (the house you live in) to increase your borrowing capacity for investment property's. Done right, you can run multiple investment properties off the equity of your main house. Negative gear them (only pay interest, wait 10 years for properties to double in value, sell, pay loan, enjoy profit), rent them out, and your laughing.

I imagine capital gains etc works similar in the US as to Australia as well, where you CANNOT claim the house you live in as a deduction, but you can claim investments. So you claim the interest on your investment properties and get a nice tax deduction. And you pay off personal non-claimable debts before investments.

Turning off all the items is the only way to play Smash Bros. This is a well known fact

This man speaks the truth. Items are dumb.

Also, I think this Bombcast is one of the best in a long time.

I think you misspelled "fun". You're not truly good at the game until you can conquer the randomness of the items and still come out on top.

As someone who played a lot of the first Bayonetta, I'm perplexed as to why people who aren't hardcore fans of the genre are singing Bayonetta 2's praises when the first game was largely hand-waved, despite not being that much different in terms of the layered presentation and core gameplay (easy to pick up with lots of depth).

The original did have some performances issues but I remember Jeff being similarly impressed by the ridiculousness and scale in the original demo QL. Maybe because it's Dan, Patrick, and Jason talking this time? Or people were still intimidated by the genre in the wake of DMC 3 and 4? Then again I wasn't following game press back in 2009 as closely as I am now, so these are only my impressions. I'm just a bit surprised how well received 2 is in comparison.

Ryan, Jeff, and Brad were praising Bayonetta 1 on the podcast when it came out. It was highly praised in general, sitting on a 90 rating on Metacritic.

There are a handful of tolerable items but most are trash and serve to help worse players better than players who actually know what they're doing. Winning in games where all items are on is basically Mario Party, which we all know is mostly luck.

@pkmango7: People were split on Bayonetta at the time. A lot of people loved it. A lot of people didn't. Some people thought it was misogynistic. Some people thought it empowered females.

I hated it. The combat was fun, but literally every other part of it put me off. It was a really divisive game.

Now, people are praising it because it's a lot more niche, so it's like reviewing a Souls game at this point; they're their own thing. You don't review it like a typical game; you review it like a Souls game. Same with Bayonetta. It's a niche game on a niche console. Everyone is used to the sexuality aspect so that part isn't as divisive; you know what you're getting here.

Rather than everybody playing this crazy new action game and having wildly different reactions to it, you're more or less just getting Bayonetta fans playing it so the reaction is much more uniform.

People get wound up about Dan liking Terminator 3 more than The Terminator, but him not liking The Lord of The Rings is a god damned disgrace.

I don't think they are very good movies either.

Harry Potter movies are ten times better than Lord of the Rings' epic boredom.

Yeah, not liking LotR is actually a pretty common thing. There's way better fantasy out there if you're into fantasy.

@lelcar: @fpk: @borp: @demoskinos:

They happen to be my favorite movies, so it's hard for me to listen to him talk about them so dismissively and without it being questioned much.

It's not that it is an invalid opinion, it's more that he isn't challenged to motivate his opinion that bugs me. He just says that they suck and doesn't really state why.

Another thing that bugs me is that he likes other fantasy, some of it much sillier than LoTR, which seems to be one of the things he complains about. Not that that necessarily invalidates his thoughts on it.

LOL, did Jeff really say part of the reason for these buggy games is that these new consoles came out too early (or something to that effect)? Let's not forget there was an 8 year gap between the PS4/Xbox One and 360, up from the 5 year turnaround between the PS2 and 360 launches. I mean it got to the point where we started seeing stopgap games from bigger franchises like GoW Ascension and Gears Judgement being released because new consoles still weren't quite ready.

Was it well known that Microsoft and Sony sent out dev kits very late this cycle? Otherwise it's very hard to believe lack of time/being unprepared for new console releases as a reason these games are so buggy.
