Rorie mentioned the no gold achievement in Spelunky. I love that it changes how you play the game, essentially turning all of the gold and gems into "1 hit kill" traps. I managed to do a No Gold Maximum Hell Run which requires killing shopkeepers (since you can't afford the Ankh), going through the worm/mothership, making it through the City of Gold avoiding all of the riches and defeating Yama.

I'm excited to try Tumbleseed sometime soon, the controls seem like they would be fun to master.

That's definitely a San Francisco thing. I don't think I've seen human shit on the ground in any other US city.

As compared to NYC? I don't have the personal experience, but a City that has a reputation for it's pure hard-core-ness and among other things, brought us pizza-rat, isn't going to lose the Crude Title to SF. Just the same, I miss NYC for the few visits I remember there. And to be honest, haven't been to San Francisco for a few decades.

San Francisco has become a city for those who can afford it, nor is it really unique for that. Coupled it seems with a luke-warm neo liberalism that at heart seems indifferent beyond allowing the situation.

Wait, when did we , as humanity, decide that Overwatch has the best lootbox animations? Personally i think the Hearthstone & Dota animations are far superior. Hearthstone makes sparkles appear and has the dwarf screams 'RARE' and 'EPIC' while you open them. Dota plays a lil bongo tune while all the characters spin around and dissapear to make it feel like you were close to getting a different set (which can be skipped if you don't care for it) Overwatch just looks bland in comparison.

In PUBG, when you look at ammo on the ground, if you have a gun that fires it, there will be an icon of the gun on the text of the item. Obviously this only helps if you've already picked up the gun.

There's a word for someone who says the combat in Horizon is repetitive, but not in Zelda. Its called fanboy.

@jordan97267: Haha nice try man, I've never even beaten a single zelda game, I've never put more than 3-4 hours into one and this is the first Zelda I've actually played since the SNES one so no I'm not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination. Just the new Zelda holds my attention more than Horizon. I'm sorry you're not cool with that, was just sharing my opinion. Have a great day!!!

Apparently they pronounce it oo-bee-suft if speaking to French or Canadian people, and You-bee-soft if speaking to Americans or English. Either way is fine though.

My take on the review discussion:

Game developers/publishers put all their effort into securing day 1 sales. Day 1 is so crucial to them. Reviewers should accurately describe what the game is/was on that crucial day. It's the most important day for everyone that worked on it. It should be the day they face full judgement, not just sales numbers.

I don't think updating reviews or re-reviewing the whole game is necessary or fair. A good middle ground is news articles that address what is changed, maybe with some light editorial on whether those changes make a meaningful difference to the reviewer.

Huh...I think I had my first Giant Bomb related dream ever, because of that header image. I haven't listened to the whole bombcast so I don't know why they are looking up, but it was due to an earthquake shaking the office in my dream. That was odd.

@larmer: Fascinating! I suppose it's similar to how French folk will often say "Fronce" when talking to other French speakers but in a dominantly English environment they'll switch to the "France" pronounciation.

@nagafen: I live in Dublin (Ireland, not the US one) and encounter human shit on a regular basis. If you live in a major city with a large amount of homeless people, drug addicts and people with mental issues then chances are you'll happen across human shit from time to time.

Reviewers staunchly against updating their reviews is totally and completely bizarre to me.

A review is not a "reward" or a "punishment" for the developer, it's information for the reader or viewer. The developer, as far as a reviewer is concerned, should not even be part of the equation. It's a service for people who want information from the review.

If your review is out of date, you refusing to update information makes your review completely useless. What good does that do for anybody? How is being against good, updated information a reasonable practice these days? Giant Bomb, for example, runs a Wiki. A Wiki entry doesn't get a single information entry and then is forever the same, it's updated, or else it's useless.

Obviously with reviews, you've got limited staff, and if there's a lot of patches, you really won't see return on updating the review again and again, but at least for as long as the game is relevant (maybe a month or two) a regular update to your review could be massively useful.

But we don't wanna "reward" developers... for fixing their products. It's also approaching really dubious territory when you assume there's an intentional release of a product with broken features. You could have playtests for literally years and still release with a game breaking bug that no one encountered, or that happened after you issue a minor day one patch to, I dunno, change the color of a UI element, something tiny and unrelated.

I dunno, there's something irksome to me about reviewers simultaneously being too lazy to update their own outdated and useless content while throwing shade at someone who IS updating their content.

I really wish people would stop comparing Vanquish to Gears of War, its very misleading. Vanquish actively punishes you for being in cover.

I am not trying to derail, this just struck me as funny. Do you often find that when you just say Dublin people assume you mean Dublin, Pennsylvania? haha

I've been hit in the face with a bat. You can possibly survive blunt force trauma. You most likely will not survive being disemboweled, or having an artery cut.

@vallnerik1: What are the odds you hit an artery though in a fight? NBA legend Paul Pierce was stabbed in the face, neck and back 11 times and was fine

With a bat you can disarm knife man more easily and it has range. And if you get knocked out by a shot to the head by a bat you're basically dead

Holy long break guys -- we don't usually see this do we? Why no edit? 3 songs went by.... Its the small bladders club or something... Over 8 minute break - live i can see, once you post it why not edit that out?

On another note, what was the goofy Japanese song at the beginning of the break? (1:40)
