Mario Party continues it's storied history of being just the worst kind of garbage.

Watching this live was certainly endurance-testing but we all made it out alive, at least.

I just don't get it. Where I'm from, everyone loves Mario Party. I even had a N64 hooked up in my bathroom with Mario Party 1 and four controllers so that no one would ever be bored.

Every Mario Party after this one is shit. And in fact after watching this, I think Mario Party 3 is shit as well. Part of me wants to see this mad quest continue but another part wants them to move on to something else with their time. Dan was having a better time than the audience even was.

Honestly this hasn't been enjoyable at all and I loved the other ones. They do realize when they mash stupid emotes the viewers who paid for this content are subjected to it too? Also in the other ones even if the non Dan people didn't like the game they were still having some fun. This one has just been Dan hanging out with some really upset people.

I finally get to see what caused the message I saw when I tuned in at the end.

I never understood people saying the 64 was bad. That just seems incredibly crazy to me.

Well, visually it was alwasy pretty bad. Almost every game had that standard blurry look that has aged terribly. I would say that with a few exceptions, the N64 look has aged worse than the PS1 and the Saturn look.

Was watching this at work live. Went out to get lunch for what seemed like a considerable length of time, and by the time I got back they'd only advanced THREE TURNS. I love this series so damn much.

An enthusiast website with no enthusiasm (Dan is a statistical outlier). Brad's attitude specifically made this much less enjoyable to watch (and this coming from someone who has traditionally favored Brad in GB content). The raw animosity out of Brad does not seem jokey like it does with Jeff. Brad is flat-out derisive, and it really sucks to watch that. I wish he could just appreciate the position he is in and find some enjoyment in the situation. ...not that I want him to fake it, nor do I accept any burden to solve this criticism; take it or leave it.

I rarely post, but I'm reading more and more of these concerns lately (low/no effort, sparse content), and that leads to a natural outcome which yields fewer satisfied viewers translating into less support for the site, and that makes me sad. I hope things can turn around soon, but I feel like I've been holding on to that hope for a little while now...

@top8gamer: This wasn't as good as MPP2, which is probably my favourite piece of content ever on the site, but I have to say that I really loved this video too.

Man, I loved Mario Party 3 when I was a kid. Used to play it with friends all the time. Weirdly enough I'm looking forward to the new Mario Party on the Wii U.

Also, I still love how much Jeff hates this franchise. Never ceases to entertain me.

Every time there's a Mario Party video someone posts the exact same thing you did and nothing ever blows up like people seem to think. I can't believe people take this series of videos seriously. The entire point of the series, the entire premise of this even being a thing was that Dan roped everyone into it and they hate it, that's the point!

Maybe people don't understand because they haven't seen this play out through every podcast/video/live stream, etc, but damn dude, it's not that serious.

@xeirus: Not to mention that Jeff has said that 2014 was a "banner year" for the site, that they've never been as popular as now. This stream had over 4k people "chatting", which is the most I've ever seen for a premium stream. There has also probably never been more content on the site than in the last 8-ish months.

There'll always be the "person x is so jaded!!!" complaints, those are never going away. But yeah, I agree that saying "I hope things can turn around soon" like most people think the sky is falling is hyperbolic to the extreme.

My childhood self would have never believed that in the year 2015 I'd be willfully downloading 7 gigabytes worth of adults playing Mario Party 3.

Yeah I always find myself cheering for him because how miserable he is. Of course everyone can agree we just don't want Dan to win. He makes it so fun to go against him.

I love this series, but this one... jesus.

Jeff put it rather well when he said that he turned a corner, and could accept how terrible these games are. He seemed generally content at the beginning, like he was ready to laugh at the game, and find some enjoyment. He totally tried at many points, too. He had hope.

But this game was so devastating. It was difficult to watch Jeff continue to get crushed left and right. It totally wore him down. It really wore everyone down. Jason coming into the game really brightened things up. Then the huge coin burst for Brad. But man... this was rough.

I can totally see them canceling this feature after this game. Before it just seemed like a joke that everyone hated Mario Party, and that was fun. But there were no longer acting at the end of this. And it wasn't fun.

I dunno, maybe they'll do a Mario Party Party 4 to give the series one last shot. But it probably won't be for a long time. And even then, it probably won't be redeemed.

I'm glad Brad had the mind to reign it in after Dan's audacity at around 3:03:35. Good man.

This video was amazing. I also like the subtext of the series is Dan proving that the games are subtly skill and strategy-based given how he manages to win every time.

Though the conversation about the N64 was baffling. It was arguably Nintendo's golden period for innovation and new game types. Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, first iterations of Mario Party, Smash Brothers, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, and Paper Mario. Tons of new series started then as Nintendo started to lose out of third party games, and Nintendo defined entire new genres in 3D. Plus outside of Nintendo you had the definitive collectable game in Banjo Kazooie and the first amazing console FPS games in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, which pushed forward the genre in tons of ways.

It doesn't beat the SNES in breadth and game quality. But in a lot of ways Nintendo is still working on the ideas and series they started on the N64.

This video was great, but it really does seem like everyone except Dan just can't take another 50-round Mario Party Party due to the sheer tedium of it all. I don't think they should stop these altogether, but tweaking the formula a bit to reduce the tedium would likely go a long way.

One option would be to simply break things up with similar luck-based games which do not have minigames or at least have significantly less minigames, such as Sonic Shuffle and 100% Orange Juice.

Alternately (or in addition), it might be best to drop the 50-round limit and instead go for whatever the 'standard' limit is for each game and either play on two different maps or, more likely, spend some time after the match poking around in the side stuff.
