I was curious about this; this QL has convinced me to take the plunge and buy it. It was the cool little concert and the battle that did it.

Fuck yeah the music is from the same guys who made the Iji soundtrack. I recognize that particular style immediately.

Really digging the look of this game.

I don't normally enjoy Ductoid Nuggets with my Lukewarm Glursh, but the stand down on 4th and Main just gets it so right *kisses fingers*

They just take a look at the bagman and convict him on the spot?! The hell...

I have this on Steam and haven't even tried it yet, but damn if this quick look doesn't make me want to bring it closer to the top of my queue. Some good music in here so far.

Been looking forward to this one for years! I didn't back it on Kickstarter because I have a bad track record of backing games I never end up playing, but I've been a fan of Zeboyd's games in the past and have an absolute love of Phantasy Star 4, so this game hits all of my buttons.

This is the best time to be playing videogames.

Man, I really want to check this out. Anyone know if the console version is still jacked?

I'm playing this right now and seem to be almost to the end. It's good - the graphics are really beautiful at points, and the unique combat system (though a bit too obfuscatory with the stats) is indeed the best thing about the game and really fun. (Don't expect the resonance of its Lunar or Chrono Trigger inspirations storywise, though.) It's best when it stands on its own two feet and doesn't rely so on references; the hamfisted RE2 section would have probably been best cut (though I know mentioning it is gonna send some people running to this game).

This game is really cool my main complaints are the music doesn't seem to fit the game and there are no sound during menus and stuff making it feel unfinished. The game could use more sound effects but the combat is really fun. I'm playing on the easiest difficulty because I am playing enough hard games right now. Highly recommend it also wish more armor since you only have 3 slots. Players like loot give us loot

Sometimes I wish Brad would pay more attention in these QL, he was told before the festival 'an alley off the festival' and then the woman he spoke to early in the festival specifically says where that alley is.

Instead we have brad unnecessarily getting into the fight with the 'cat' because he doesnt know what to do :/

on the other hand, i guess it saves spoiling too much? :s

Below your armory in the IT section there is an npc who explains all of the status effects such as rust and disarm. I suggest checking them out to learn the mechanics you a4ent so sure of .

They shoulda had an NPC for the stats themselves; they're not intuitive, and the only place they're explained is in a huge infodump right at the start, before you've even engaged in combat.

I'm guessing the 'cat' you fight is a reference to Mr. Gato (cat in Spanish) from Chrono Trigger, whom you encounter in a similar location at the festival.

Zeboyd are fantastic dudes and they make good stuff. As usual, the story is a little more lightweight than the games they're calling back to, but I've been really digging this game and if you're a JRPG fan it's worth your time.

Something about the pixel art is bugging me. I don't know if it's the style and shading of the sprites or the difference in contrast between the sprites and the backgrounds. Something about it stands out to me and not in a good way.

The combat system looks solid, though.

Crap ... if I didn't have massive law school debt and way to many games to play as soon as Brad said phantasy star plus Chrono Trigger I would have stopped the video and bought. I still may. That is a dope combination. ((though given this is 4/20 wouldn't a more crazy "high" quick look been appropriate?) "if you think it is bubblegum crisis now.." ok added to list to watch. And we didn't even get any anime is for looser jokes!

Oh man, I was trying to figure out what the hell she was saying during that concert for the longest time when playing. It didn't even occur to me that its a mix of japanese and english.

my gaming shame is not playing chrono trigger so i probably need to do that first. also with how much chief executive assistant to the anime editor brad shoemaker brings up bubblegum crisis maybe i should try it out (though it probably doesn't hold up).

How's the savesystem? When Brad got stuck in the last battle he had to choose game over. Does this mean he has to redo everything he did in this quicklook?

@onemanarmyy: If he quit he would have been forced back to his last save but you can save at anytime outside of a battle.

Man, the resemblance in persona 5 music is killing me.

Just popping into the comments to say yes - JRPGs are RPGs made in Japan, and not a genre unto themselves. I'm glad we could clear this up once and for all, and that no one will ever bring it up again

Zeboyd's Cthulhu Saves the World really soured me with its awful writing. I own their Penny Arcade games, and heard some okay things about them, but man I can only tolerate internet humor for so long.

I'm not sure why Zeboyd Games get as much attention as they do. All of their previous games were fairly middling, both technically and creatively. This, again, doesn't look like it can hang with modern indie games. Though it does look like their best game yet, so maybe someday they'll release something decent.

Looks like a scifi chrono trigger. kewl. It does look a little too much like an rpg maker game though.

In terms of visuals, music and styyyyle, this looks and feels extremely bland and generic, it fails to capture the charm of the old games it's trying to recreate. This could be just a random game from RPG Maker.

Shit, that's a genuinely cool combat system. Alright, guess I know what game to play next
