I did enjoy the beta enough, but don't really like competitive games like this too much, I get anxious.

If you plan to play with a group of 3-4 other friends, I really recommend the game. By yourself, the game gets old. Or you could just get out of party chat and make some damn friends. Nahhh

Alright I was excited for this, I have this coming via Gamefly and this will be the 1st video of the game I'll be seeing.

Not a fan of the quick look, especially lack of the other crews commentary...

Jesus, that is disgusting. It's a multiplayer-only game that's already fairly barren on content, and they're locking away large portions of the game behind a 140 bucks pay-wall? On-disc DLC at that?

It's a self-titled "E-sports" game that is unashamedly providing a "pay-to-win" option in the form of new hunters and monsters that the other players can't access. It's the most base hypocrisy. All that marketing and then they shoot themselves in the foot in such a boring manner.

If players could obtain this stuff in-game via leveling, it'd be acceptable if it meant simply giving some people a head-start, but exclusivity that for whatever reason is outside of the season pass? That's the greediest thing I have seen in a very, very long time.

I thought this game looked really interesting, but no way in hell can I support this kind of business approach.

@matthew: I'm really surprised they didn't make ANY of the changes recommended by players after the last two rounds of PC betas. The addition of a 'progression' track was universally considered to be bad, and they didn't do any work to try and make it less of a 'chase'. I won't be getting this mostly because of the DLC, but honestly it just gets boring after a few hours. I played for about 10 hours total, and that's more than enough for me.

I might still end up getting it. Despite the DLC controversy, it looks more interesting to me than The Order:1886.

All of the DLC is either skins or extra characters. There is no pay-to-win. I believe the Season Pass will give you all extra characters and monsters. It was $25.

I'm no rich bitch. I haven't spent any more money besides the actual game. Only part of the DLC that sucks is the extra characters and monsters they will release probably within a month or two.

If I want to keep playing, I'll buy some more characters. Doesn't seem unreasonable.

I would totally buy the 'PC Monster Race' version if Mary Kish did some voice over and kept saying, "Good Job" and her adorable laugh.

I already got the base ($60) version on PS4 to play with my friends, and I must say it is way more fun playing with either 4 friends as hunters or 5 friends and talking crap to the monster as we run for our lives. I would say wait for a sale if you don't have friends to play this with.

This actually seems like a real esport. Like people who don't play it could watch. I sense a feature in the works.

I think this quick look did a pretty decent job of selling the game to me, especially with Mary giving Dan strategic advice. Of course, my computer can't run it and I'm sort of on the hook to buy the two 3DS releases this Friday, but maybe I can trick my friends with PS4s into purchasing this.

not only that but im pretty sure they already said they would never charge for new maps.

Watching the crew play multiple matches of this could be magical if they allow themselves the time to learn the game.

Aside from the "were on camera it's different" argument, if they spent some time playing they could make one hell of a video series.

@haxdax: Afraid you're wrong there. 2 monsters and 4 hunters are behind a pay wall. That's a full third of the game. And a season pass will only net you half of that. You'll need to spring for the 140 bucks edition to get the other half. It's basically a second season pass that costs double the amount of the first.

These extra characters might not be more powerful, (though they probably will be) but they'll allow you versatility and certainly be better in some circumstances, thus giving players an unfair advantage. Especially over other people who can't play these monsters / characters themselves and so figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are.

I'd have no problem if it was just skins, or even maps. And there's plenty of that in the DLC packaging as well.

@hyco24: I've got plenty of people who I could play it with, so that ain't an issue. Honestly, I was really intrigued by this game and would've loved to pick it up and play it, but I'm just disgusted by their business model for the reasons I stated above. I'm not the type to boycott an interesting game. The hobby's meant to be fun and I try to leave politics at the door.

Sometimes, however, people cross a line. Evolved is a game that's lacking in content as is, and they are locking away a full third of their game, not only really fucking any "casual" player over who just wants to pick it up, but ensuring that anyone who wants to take it seriously and approach it from an "E-Sport" angle, which is what they have been pushing, is forced to pay that full amount. It's pay-to-win for a retail-priced game. That's just not okay.

And Mary's priceless, god damn it.

I'm intrigued, I haven't really seen a full match so this Quick Look will be handy. I know Mary's played a bunch of it on video but I looked away to keep it somewhat surprising.

I agree with you and I only got it because my friends got it. If they we all didn't get it then I don't think any 1 of us would have.

I didn't follow this game and I could care less if it is something they are trying to push as an 'E-Sport' it will not be a game that the community grabs on to and will feel like they need to be the best 4 man team ever, plus what single person would be or want to go in as the monster in an esport setting? I might be wrong but like you said the content just isn't there to keep 'pro' players involved long enough to make the game have any longevity. That is just boneheaded to try to sell it like it's the next big thing when it's most likely going to be a flash in the pan. Incase I just came off wrong I am agreeing with you :)

Also I am sure the only reason they are doing their business like this is because look at what Bungie got away with in Destiny. That game is still holding a lot of people with their upcoming dlc and grind fest carrot on a stick style game.

Who knows maybe someone at 2K was all, "Holy mackerel, you guys look what Bungie just did! Multi million copies sold and they shipped something not even close to finished with a terrible loot system and 10 years of DLC! We need to jump on that model!!"

Esports-wise: 2k and Turtle Rock are running a $15k tournament right now. 4-man teams, alternating sides. When your team is on the "monster" side, your team picks one player to be the monster. It's not a 1-player team or a 5th designated monster player.

As for the Left 4 Dead reference, there was a small competitive L4D scene, mostly L4D 2. They had their own rulesets and modifcations (certain weapons/items didn't appear, tweaked health values, etc.) It was never big, but it was there. It was pretty much all community-driven. This is what I think Evolve will be after 2K and Turtle Rock's first push.

My money's on Majora's Mask 3D this week.

i dont believe i am in the minority when saying left for dead is 10x more enjoyable and approachable than this sprinting simulator. I dont even have to bring up their pricing scheme...

This is really neat. Not something I'd play much of, but it seems they finally made an FPS watchable from a competitive standpoint; Which is nice because as nicely competitive as CS can be, watching it is pretty far from entertaining or interesting.

I was trying to hold off on getting this. I was cold on the beta at first, but by the end I really loved it. The game finally clicked with me and I found myself being able to enjoy every class. I also have a pretty busy few months ahead of me.

BUTTTTT after watching this I have got a real bad itch to get this....

I like that Mary always knows what the fuck she's talking about. The GB crew almost never do.

When there is a hugeass DLC store page in the game menu I kinda get as put off as if I found out the smoking hot gal I got close and personal with turned out to be into chewing tobacco - the hard way.

May this game not lead us onto a path of even more more western publishers running games delivering $30 worth of content on the disc and putting the rest behind $130+ DLC. Amen.

cool game, i really want to go for it but i'm not sure how the random experience would be and unless my coworkers go for it i probably won't have a crew to roll with.

Consider 25 of that is a season pass and the rest is cosmetic shit, I dont really care.
