Thank you, Jeff G., for doing the Quick Look!

Alex is my favorite bomber, but I was really hoping for Jeff to do thus one, since he was on all the Forza's, Driveclub and pCARS1. Had Alex done this one it would have felt, like you guys let this one off the hook a little too easily.

@shottyB I'm pretty serious about racing games, have over 1500 on my current wheel and race rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa, Automobilista, pCARS2. I have a Platinum in GT6 and 100%ed the Senna DLC, I was in the closed GTS Beta and reported hours of written feedback to PD.

And I'm NOT gonna buy GTS (though my gripes are not necessarily with the seriousness of the Sportsmanship Rating idea).

Always have to take Giant Bomb coverage of this sort of racing game with a grain of salt. Amusing and also agonizing. It would be like watching me fire up some football sim and crapping all over it. I don't know anything about football lol

I think if Jeff/Peter viewed a proper race involving more skilled individuals (the target audience for this), and be able to ask them questions, then stuff about the game might make more sense to them. A lot of Jeffs complaints about the driving format are a direct result of his driving. That looked like a complete shit show at the back of that grid haha Everyone at the back of that grid was bad.. which is exactly what qualifying is for. The front section of the grid was probably much more civilized and less ghosting. It has been for me.

And as many others have already pointed out. This is a competitor to iRacing. The race car roster, the Safety/Driver ratings, the 20 min time cycling event entries, pre-race qualifying/practice etc etc. All directly taken from iRacing. All that's missing (and probably coming) is the mass amount of DLC ($$$) to expand it and make people buy what they really want.

myeah, always found multiplayer in these serious driving games to be weird. Not guarantee there won't be trolls and also lag.

I am so disappointed, I loved the CaRPG aspect of the game progressing from the Demio through to the supercars, this looks to have none of that.

I don't know about the sterile presentation, but I do like that it's trying to get away from the bumper car shit online. Being bad at a racing game should mean you are slow, not just crashing into people in every corner; that's not a "simulation" racing game. I think Forza Horizon is like the sweetspot Jeff is looking for.

The separate ranking systems seems like a pretty good idea in theory. I can tell this isn't for most people though, and the lack of car variety is disappointing. It does seem light on content too.

Because the cars are not modeled in a sim way, the steering geometry and self-aligning moments are one-size-fits all. This leads to no correct steering lock and ratio set per car, no modeled ackermann steering, no stronger ffb with higher caster angles or more downforce. Even cars on springs stiffer than 250kN/m spring rate feel soft and indirect in the FFB and steering sensitivity. There is almost no lift-off oversteer, shifting down two gears at once with an H-pattern shifter mid corner without rev matching doesn't upset the car(and no clutch modeling, the clutch is just on/off like a button) setting the brake balance very rearward doesn't give you a realistically better turn-in response...

It's made for a controller and not really a sim.

Drive slowly against a wall at a 90 degree angle, your car will always rotate towards the racing direction.

And ghosting instead of proper damage as well as the too modern car list. Aaand too few tracks.

Oh and FoV options, any real sim needs FoV options so your display is a window into a world where objects are the same scale as in your world. GT5 and 6 had FoV options (hidden in the triple screen menu), now they took that out along with dynamic ToD.

Edit: On PS3 and before, GT always had the good excuse of not having the processing power to run a tire model and more complex calculations that PC sims do, but now Assetto Corsa and Project CARS 2 have proven that wrong on PS4. This time PD had the benefit of starting more or less from scratch with content and what they made is neither a good serious current day sim, nor a fun sim-lite racer.

Man the UI for this game feels and looks like a Windows 98 desktop.

Gotta agree with the sentiment that whoever started this whole "fake mouse cursor" thing in console games, and I'm looking at Destiny here, should get kicked in the shins. How is moving a cursor around with an analog a better solution than just clicking through menus. The radial menu was the console solution for quick access.

Trying out the demo last week the UI is horrible, the "scapes" were insanely horrible, and the racing wasn't great out of the box. I love the idea of a driving school but the fact that there's about a two minute or longer load between each thirty-second lesson makes it beyond arduous, especially when going for gold. This just seems like an absolutely terrible product even for car fetishists when you consider the feature shortcomings and the lack of car variety.

This was really the year where Gran Turismo could have bitten back against Forza Motorsport since FM7 has has some tepid reception... but this seems up it's own rear end to a degree I did not think even GT could reach. Seems like a lost opportunity. That said, I am not in the demographic of either game.

I have never gone from potentially interested going into a video to "there is nothing about this that appeals to me" so fast. It is a real bummer because I passed on Forza 7 for obvious reasons this year and I didn't like the first PCars that much so I am weary about its sequel.

As someone who's really only dabbled in Forza, and actually enjoyed it more the more seriously I took it, trying to race clean, I think this ain't so bad. I don't really understand why you'd want to play a game like this and not learn how to brake properly and just go barreling into other cars. Once you take time to learn a little bit, racing clean is way more fun, as there's a lot more skill and strategy involved. Overtaking is more complex and interesting, and it's still just about making good time beyond that.

I think a game saying, hey, it's more fun this way is fine. We have a lot of games that are forcing player's hands in a way that says, this is the way to play. And if you want to play a racing sim, especially online with others, racing clean is really the way to go.

I don't quite understand all the resistance from Jeff and Brad. It's not Mario Kart. You can't complain that Madden has too many rules and doesn't let you play it like NFL Blitz. This is a racing sim. There are *rules*.

In some ways, yes, the videos are a bit pedantic and silly, but it makes sense.

Now, I won't be playing this game, because I'm not into any racing games, really, but from the brief time I've spent with racing sims, this seems all right and kind of forward-thinking in a lot of ways.

I think Forza Motorsport 7 is actually really good. This game is awful. Maybe if Polyphony dropped the price to $15 it'd be worth it.

I'm kinda excited for the changes, I'm hoping the slough to get to the more demanding online races isn't too long. One problem, 5 laps is way too short for a race, even for career modes in previous games getting to the tougher races took forever.

I'd love to keep playing but the servers are down.

Also, turn off the racing lines they're a crutch.

The holy grial of ultra hd gaming, the savior of AAA Games, a game so detailed that a car takes 4 years to model and cost millions of dollars.

What you get is a dull ass boring game. But, hey! at least you can now justify your 4k television.

What's next !? 8K Gaming!

I like how they put sport at the end of the title, the most meaningless term used in all of car sales. Sport tuned! Rally sport trim package! Sport engine! Sport Transmission! Sport trunk! Sport child seat anchors!

... whoa that online mode is really dumb. Or i guess the whole fucking game is online mode so man. Screw this game. And I like sim racers. Like hey let's make it harder and more arduous to do anything because serious business game for serious business seriousness. That big SLOW DOWN sign in the middle of the screen is the most obnoxious thing ever. BOOOOOOOO!

At 36:52, when they're looking at the Effects in Scapes, I couldn't help but notice the temperature is displayed in Kelvin. It was 5430K when they took that Scape. I don't know if racers use Kelvin or what, but it jumped out at me.

I'm honestly confused on Jeff's reading of the "looking bad" / sporting code stuff. If they are wanting to have a go at getting a serious competition going, they need tough rules or it will just turn into a giant shit show.

If people want to play a good realistic raceing game, play Assetto Corsa.

@sigma1199: As they stated, the problem is more that after the video is just there for the sake of being there. Its a bad introduction video.

There isn't even any gameplay that teaches you about good sportsmanship.

To be honest they should've just release a new GT game and make it good (progression like with GT 4 for instance with the usual refinements).

EDIT: I'm a simple man, thus I'm laughing at simple things. This time because the German dude at 41:30 is named H. Durr. I wonder if hes named after a real driver.
