Quick Look: Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas

Ugh... Those heroic challenges are kicking my butt. I wish there were more deck slots so I could make custom decks for it without deleting previous decks.

Give me Merasmus any day.

I wish you would get more from beating heroic mode than just a card back... Very difficult and not sure it's worth it.

@AlKusanagi And yes, more deck slots Blizzard! So dumb they haven't done that, it's gotta be the #1 feature request and would be pretty trivial.

Didn't know this expansion was currently free, looking forward to checking it out later.

@alex For Maxx I found a choice Flame Trap to activate the HAunted Creeper Deathrattles and fill her board with 1/1 spiders works and follow up with Unleash the Hounds and cheap battlecry heals like VoodoDoctor and EarthenRing Farseerer to keep you alive as you just widdle her down.

Were you recording tihs off an ipad? never saw a cursor

@mrmazz: I ended up beating Maxx with a priest deck built around healing minions, charge minions, and the dragon that sets a hero's life to 15. Little tedious, but you can eventually KO him if you get the right combination of weak enemy minions on the board.

We recorded on PC. I have no idea why the cursor didn't show up.

Normals + class challenges took me 20 minutes, much hype for very little. Looks stylish though.

Naxxramas is the penultimate undead dungeon.

Because no matter how many times we beat it, the damn thing keeps coming back.

Alex using the coin first turn to use the Hunter's hero power immensely disturbed me.

I'm probably going to just buy all of the quarters for the $20 because I've played the hell out of Hearthstone this year and Blizzard deserves some of my money for it.

Edit: Alex stumbling into that successful misdirection was great.

Seems like a lot of money for some unfair bot matches. I thought there would have been something more substantial, like a completely different game mode.

Remember the WoW card game? There was a "Raid Deck" which introduced the role of a Dungeon Master who played the boss encounter, the rest of the players were the heroes trying to take him down. This is what I thought the expansion was going to be, not this.

you get a guaranteed legendary and cards from it, i think that's mostly what you pay for

@alkusanagi: I just finished the heroic challenges after deleting and trying many different decks so yeah, I too really wish Blizzard would allow more deck slots. I think it's kind of good to not get too attached to your decks but wish at the very least we had two decks per class.

Right there with you. I beat the first heroic with an existing deck, but I'm quickly seeing that there's probably no way to beat the second heroic boss with starting from scratch. :/ This is fine, but I already have a deck for each hero that I really like!

They're not really "unfair" bot matches considering the AI is still only so-so, and the decks they use are locked so you can plan against them. It's more using your advantage on strategy and ability to construct a counter-deck to their abilities. If a human had the same abilities and advantages that the computer had, it would be a whole different level of challenge.

And really - $20 for ~30 matches and cards an otherwise free game is a lot of money now? And it's not hard to build up 700 gold in a week if you play regularly and don't buy packs.

Tried this last night and got my ass kicked.

You can click on the things on each of the corners Vinny was talking about. They will all do some kind of animation/noise. Other then that they dont do anything. More for clicking on something if youre bored or impatient.

Seems like alex is still very new to this, some odd choices made during these games.

I defeated the final boss on heroic, but the game was so laggy that it apparently did not count, awesome.

The title is misspelled in the promo slot with a U instead of an A.

Oh come on, 700 gold really isn't that much. You can probably make enough from just doing all the daily quests until the next wing comes out. Being decent in Arena also helps a lot. I mean, you can break even gold-wise at 6 wins, 7 wins guaranteed, that's very doable. I haven't spent a dime on this game in the last 3 months I've been playing and I don't feel like I'm missing out. I don't have any Legendaries, I guess, which kinda stops me from moving past rank 12-13, but I'm still having fun with it.

@zabant: Actually I'm not, but I'm also not a particularly great player, and I haven't spent much time reading about other people's strategies to try and make myself a whole lot better.

That rogue resigning was hilarious. I don't think he/she expected the misdirection to work that way either.

The only way to unlock the new cards is to play & beat the quarter bosses. You can get the arachnid quarter for free by playing it during the 1 month long launch event.

Each wing costs 700 in-game gold so you can just do the 3 quests every day for a week to unlock the next one without paying a cent.

I haven't played Hearthstone for maybe a year until my friends were excited about playing this so I got back into it and was able to beat the 3 normal bosses with my terrible year old decks without much of a problem.

Yea getting the 700 gold isn't crazy at all, you get a quest everyday worth 40-60 gold so every 3 days you have 3 quest that can be done at the same time you just spend maybe an hour finish the quests, Bam! Nice chunk of change and like you said you can do arena if you feel up to it but even without that it is super doable.

Also Alex hand and deck are different things.

Yeah, pretty surprising when you find out that if your minion misdirects into you when you have a weapon equipped that it takes the damage. Thought that was a bug for the longest time. Still a dumb balancing decision by Blizzard if you ask me.

There is hardly enough content here to warrant a video. I would of held off till the whole thing was released.

Super easy expansion, but then again so is Hearthstone in general so.

just use minions that take advantage of the the web wrap, like earthen ring farseer voodo doctor, si7 agent. so that you get to use your battlecry every turn or charge like kodo.

Trying to explain all of hearthstone to Vinny while also trying to showcase new features is the best.

To me that at least has a small amount of logic, dropping a minion with a Battlecry that gIves Charge which instantly applies to your minions only to have charge vanish because that minion dies makes No sense in any way the "Charge" effect is already applied and there is nothing to indicate that it would be lost and for other Battlecry effects they aren't lost they keep the +1/+1 or whatever after that minion goes down.

Stop saying deck when you mean pack/hand *hnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh nerd anger*

Maybe this is my biggest problem with the expansion, and Hearthstone in general: I don't think deckbuilding is fun.

@alex: The cursor hasn't shown up in a couple of quick looks you guys have done. I assume you're still working out the hardware.

Spells and charge minion weighted deck will probably help a bit with that Maexxna heroic battle.

30 minute quicklook on this seems longer than the content they released. Too easy.

wtf are you talking about with the stuff in the corners? click on them and the have animations that play off where you click

I am amazed how they managed to make a 30 minute long quick look out of content that lasts for about 15 minutes.

Curse of Naxxramas is seemingly going to be way too short to recommend spending real money on. I managed most of the normal bosses on my first attempt and both of the Class challenges. 700 gold is also rather steep considering that could buy you 7 standard card packs. The new cards are nice though.

Alex was lucky to win that game at the end; the guy conceded for no real reason.

The 5th quarter is unlocked for free once you unlocked all the previous 4.
