What the hell was Dan about and these red shines? Vinny didn't make a big deal out of it when it happened to him. You trade the cups and the shines in them, of course the red one.

I am not sure if I should be scared about that, but I can see his thought process there (maybe that comes with handeling Pen&Paper RPG groups for years and years). That said: Vinny was right. You accept the shine into your cup which "triggers" the shine effect of trading cups. So you trade your cup with the red shine in it.

You basically nailed it. Seemed obvious to me, but maybe that's from playing so many board games where sometimes minutiae like the order that actions resolve becomes very important.

And like Abby said, they did it that way for the last couple times there was a red shine swap, so I think being consistent is fair (luckily, in this case, the consistent action is also the correct action). Dan probably didn't care before since he wouldn't have benefited in any way :P

Isn't it obvious? Yoshis come from the eggs that fall out of the sky that are laid by the Andy Sandbird.

After this episode I'm pretty sure Abby is a second, more socially adept Dan Ryckert. She is New Dan.

As an amateur linguist, I suggest Dan goes down the Phonetics rabbit-hole on Wikipedia if he wants to learn the difference in pronunciation between Gem and Gym.

My Sherlock hot take is that the first episode was so fantastic it deluded us all into thinking the rest of the show was any good.

I thought I may have come off as an ass after re-reading this and I've always liked Dan but this just seemed like he was trying to get one over on everyone. It's just one shine XD

I think Dan might need a Shine intervention. At this rate the series is going to end with him being crushed under the weight of his own hubris. And by hubris I mean thousands of gumballs that he has convinced himself he needs.

Are the "eggs" Yoshis come out of actually eggs or are they some kind of protective shell any Yoshi can form when it feels endangered?

Given that Yoshi's shield in Smash Brothers places him inside of an egg, you might be on to something here. It's no egg, it's a Reactive Exoskeleton!

So is there any chance this game is merciful and you could use the Turbo Nozzle to skim across the surface of the poison water in the Lily Pad river and get the red coins that way? Only killing Mario if he goes IN the water?

Seems like a good way to reward lateral thinking and players for using the full tool set.

I am not hopeful but worth a shot? They're all lined up perfectly for it, even that last one needing you to jump might launch Mario out of the water and onto the platform.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one perpetually brought to tears by Eternal Sunshine. That movie is just too much, I have seen it like 6 times and still tear up every time without fail. So so so good.

Tried this out. But unfortunately no, you die as soon as you touch the water even with Turbo Nozzle. Also, getting on Yoshi resets your nozzle to the hover, so to enter this level with Turbo you have to vomit on the pipe then swim back to get the nozzle. Thankfully the vomit blocker doesn't reappear.

They really need to farm some lives before doing this again. I commented on a previous video that Piantas In Need is a good shine for doing that--the Piantas that spit out blue coins will give one-ups if you've already collected the coin. And personally I'd say to leave this shine till last or near last anyway (for me it was the absolutely last one I did). Moreso if just getting to the level is giving so much trouble (I mean, it's not actually that hard to jump onto the boats...)

Wait I always thought adult Yoshis were in eggs because they were sealed there, not because they were born there. I mean this is the first thing Yoshi says in SMW.

The way you can "cheese" the lilypad level is... the lilypad respawns once it breaks, but you'd normally never be able to tell this because you die. HOWEVER, you can walk across the paperthin walls of the stage in order to get back to the start and get another lilypad, which is slow, tense and tedious, hence why I put "cheese" in quotations. This is how I beat the lilypad level as a kid.

The lilypad level, both getting to it and playing it, is one of Nintendo's historic low points in game design. Miyamoto and Tezuka were the producers on this one, how the hell did it happen?

I learned today that I apparently have like the polar opposite TV tastes to the entire cast of GB East, especially re: Doctor Who.

I am curious if it is a case of knowing the original or not though. I grew up watching the old series, so I kind of appreciate how campy the new stuff is to keep the original flavour. I wonder if people who dislike it have mostly only seen the new series? It balances those kind of camp tributes to the original with some of the best moments of TV.
