Quick Look: Streets of Rogue

This screenshot is giving me literal pain. Horrifying flashbacks of elementary school kids who thought they were hilarious.

Loved this game. Haven't played in like a year!

Haha, yeah, just seeing that screenshot made me hesitate clicking the play button.

A few minutes in to the QL and there's already been a fat joke, multiple incredibly tasteless jokes about slavery, and a bunch of other stuff. I am genuinely astonished. I have not seen this in a video game before, it's beyond even 'what do you think is appropriate in comedy' or 'what do you think is funny' - I can understand people liking some of these jokes but cramming a game full of them and making collecting slaves like pokemon a game objective is just... what are you doing

I think dan forgot to actually describe what this game is before sprinting into the weeds about fun weird items and characters... it's been 8 minutes and there's been 20 seconds of actual gameplay

There's some interesting mechanics and systems at play here, but the awful writing and "humor", not to mention the shit pixel art and UI, are bumming me out.

THis sort of looks quite fun, but I'm having a hard time getting over the graphical style.

I played this in early access, and it was pretty fun...but the “humor” wasn’t fleshed out at the time. Now I’m kinda embarrassed to own this.

Fuck the writing so hard, but the game itself looks way more fun than I was expecting.

Been playing this game with my kids since it was on UPF. It's a super fun game to do co-op.

Everything "would" be great on Switch, but a lot of stuff doesn't run well on Switch. So I think saying "this would make a good Switch game" includes the hope that it can run well.

Yeah the writing is kind of cringey, but the game is pretty fantastic on the Switch. I don't really stress about dialogue too much in a game like this, but to each their own. If you skip this game because you don't like a screenshot of a bad piece of dialogue, it's your loss.

The quickest look was when I decided this was not worth my time from the thumbnail alone.
The art doesn't help it.

As the comedian you can "netralize" a character by telling them a joke and (if they like it) asking them to leave. You can also get followers with jokes. It is possible, although difficult, to play as a pacifist with certain character.

EDIT: I haven't played since this came out of early access but that used to be true.

@steveurkel: I think I tried it on UPF a long time ago! Surprised it's still being developed.

@rorie: Yep. I saw the thumbnail/title and thought "....wait, didn't they already do a QL of this game?" It was just you playing it on a UPF.

As far as the game? Depending on the cost I may give it a go. Looks like an alright diversion.

Played 3 hours of this with two friends last night. Shapshifter, Vampire and Hacker.
Definitely up there with favourite co-ops!

There's a nice annotated edition that provides a lot of background info and clarifications on things that aren't so obvious nowadays. It also includes the deleted first chapter.

@gregalor: I actually own that edition, but I've never cracked it. Maybe this is the right opportunity.

i can vouch for the gameplay here, i haven't played it in over a year & that was before there was any real narrative and the only driving force was the desire to unlock more classes, which was good because i found the loop pretty fun to explore & experiment with. that having been said, the writing on display here definitely made me grimace more than once.

With the Gallagher bit I wonder if Abby has also missed out on the wonders of The Amazing Johnathan

I noticed this in Void Bastards. You explain so much detail in the beginning before showing the game play.
