We started doing a suspend point beginning of each level but did cheat with the rewind a few times when we felt ripped off.

It's 2020 ffs, we got kids, dogs and jobs. Got no time to play old games the real way. :)

@jeff@brad The NES/SNES emulators on the switch definitely have some frames of lag. The brook adapter might add 1 or 2, but the source of the bad feel is very likely the emulator.

This is easier said than done in Lost Levels. In addition to a perfect flagpole jump he needs:

• a coin counter that reads either 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, or 99
• to touch the flagpole when the last digit of the timer matches the coin counter

Oh damn, I didn't know that! I think he got one on his first high flagpole grab so I just assumed he was just so slightly too low on all the rest. That's cruel!

@clapmaster: Strange... I have had the opposite experience using my DualShock 4 on PC. Over bluetooth the input latency makes fast paced games effectively unplayable so I always end up plugging it in over USB instead. This happens regardless of whether I'm using DS4Windows or Steam as the driver software.

Of course, it could be the bluetooth adapter I'm using...

@ftawfig: Yeah with bluetooth you can't be very far away from the connection or have many obstacles in the way or you'll get signal loss. Also if you use a bluetooth usb adapter you definitely want to use a usb extension cable to get the adapter out away from your pc because it being plugged in next to other usb ports will also cause signal loss. Turning down the polling rate from 1000Hz for the controller will give you more bluetooth range but also increase input latency.

@jarp12: Oh yeah, it's totally fine, play how you want. And there are definitely some major fuck you moments, like those maze castles. Beating the world only to waste your lives trying to guess where to go is just the worst

@brad asked about blooper motion... @benpack basically has the vertical movement figured out. But they're even easier to avoid once you figure out the horizontal movement. They have two modes, they either horizontally chase you, or move in the direction you're facing. I think they occasionally switch modes, this might have happened at about 26:07? But figure out which mode they're in and act accordingly. If you get one of the ones that moves in the direction you're facing, it's your own erratic left/right movement while looking for an opening that can make them seem random and hard to predict... but worst case you can get below it, face left, and crouch (if big) then watch it sail over your head and out of your way. Not a good speedrun strategy, but there's no shame in leaving speedrunning to speedrunners.

Regarding worst Mario music, not sure if it counts but I think Joke's End from Superstar Saga is up/down there. Which is too bad, the rest of that game has great music. Same problem as the Bowser music from the original, it's too repetitive. But Joke's End is slow and full of puzzles and I certainly got stuck there for a lot longer than a typical Bowser level from the original.

It seems they made it better in the remake?
