The Giant Beastcast: Episode 0

I love everything about this this. I love Papa Vinny, I love Alex, I love the dancehall airhorn. NYC must be full of great guests like Jeff Bakula you can invite. Keep 'em coming!

I agree with my German compatriots, the way you pronounce "Nachtisch" (dessert) does make it sound like you want somebody to get naked instead. Which would certainly raise a few eyebrows since such requests are usually unheard of.

@holybins: I use Pocket Casts and sometimes when you add a protected podcast, it takes a couple episodes for the art to show up. Happened with the Bombcast Premium feed, after a week it fixed itself.

I'm commenting so the comments number goes up because hopefully it's used to judge how awesome I/we think something is. This is the best and I'm going to listen to every one.

It's not that people want reviews to be about games being fun or not, it's that buying advice reviews and criticism are separate, or at least should be in some way. And people also believe the agenda that's being pushed - targeting 'sexist' , 'violent' games - plain old sucks.

The Giant Beastcast is ranked 15th on the iTunes Top Charts audio podcast in all categories. Ranked first in Video Games and Games & Hobbies. Way to go guys. Of course I've heard about iTunes podcast ranking system being janky. Only counts new subscribers. More sweet sounds of Alex and Vinny. The better things will be.

If the Beastcast talks about the news as of Friday, won't the Bombcast have little to talk about?

I like it but it needs work. It will come into its own over time I'm sure :) I hope maybe every now and then you can have the west coast guys call in. Just making a judgement call before finishing the episode but still loving it so far. Thank you Vinny and Alex :)

I really enjoyed this first episode. Guest was great and I want more GBeast in my life.

Great first episode and the intro music is just fine.

Also really huge surprise that you guys did not manage to keep it 60 to 90 minutes in length. It's okay like this anyway.

This was all fun and interesting but you really got to fix the volume for the different speakers.

Jeff Bakalar was really quiet, Alex was about the middle and Vinny was really loud.

Made it very jarring to listen to at points, felt like messing with the volume all the time.

I'm sure this has been mentioned many times already. Loved the podcast just one request: please use a compressor/normalizer/whatever you call it that makes voices relatively the same volume.

On headphones in the office I can hear everyone ok, but in the car (over bluetooth) I couldn't hear Jeff without blasting the volume.

Great podcast, only parts I didn't like was Jeff being incredulous about Vinny reading the Witcher books and Alex acting like refresh rate is some voodoo magic that's incomprehensible.

Video is pictures shown rapidly to fake movement. The faster you display pictures, the more smooth movement looks. Both the hardware rendering the pictures and the hardware displaying the pictures need to be roughly in sync so it doesn't tear or stutter.

Exactly how I feel. He was pretty cool but looking forward to future guests. Not looking forward to potential two man episodes.

@vinnyI don't know if you picked up on this or not, but this Jeff fella was talking some mess about reading the Witcher books like they're some shitty game tie-in fiction.

The Last Wish was first publish in Polish in 1993. These games are based on the novels, not the other way around.

EDIT: Whoops, should have listened to the whole podcast before posting.

I dunno, Jeff kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know if maybe his personality just doesn't mesh with Vinny and Alex, or what. Though, I don't know, maybe because I'm a huge Witcher fan (or "Witcher scholar" as he's say), and it seemed like he was kinda trying to guilt trip Vinny for having read the novels. I don't ever remember anyone on the giantbomb crew doing that. They joked about it, but they never seemed to try and make Vinny feel bad for having read the novels. And considering I read all the translated novels, maybe that stuck with me. I dunno, maybe he'll grow on me if he winds up showing up more often, but those are my two cents.

And, not that it matters, but The Witcher was created and printed before A Song of Ice and Fire. Just saying, to cut off the "it's a wannabe Game of Thrones" argument.

Those were some harrowing but great travel stories.

Looking forward to a very promising podcast.

It's weird how comedy from the East Coast (e.g. Fallon show) now has a sincerity that is a nice change from the West Coast snark.

I remember he told that story before about his finger before. There is footage out there with his finger in a cast/splint thing during an episode of On The Spot when Rich Gallup and Jeff were hosting/co-hosting it. I remember that being the first time I ever saw Vinny on camera. And, if I remember correctly, he still rocked a black shirt.

Rather disappointed that there isn't a comment explaining what was the potential insult that Vinny's dining fellow said in German. But I guess Vinny didn't remember the actual phrase.

There is just not much to go on. As a german I can't really think of a single phrase/word that would provoke that reaction, especially in the context of ordering food. I am as curious as you to know what that guy said :)

So it ends and begins again forever.
