@marokai: This has a more retro feel than UPF ever did though.

Also, I remember the SNES Star Wars games kicking my ass as a kid. The platforming stage Brad ended it on is a terrible memory for me.

@amyggen: It's definitely more retro (and I enjoy this show quite a bit) but it has a lot of the same early UPF vibe. Which isn't a bad thing.

Man I had Earthworm Jim 3D on PC as a kid, i thought the game was pretty interesting and quirky at the time. Controlled ok with a interesting world structure with different parts of Jim's brain, it was a bloody difficult game also. Was pretty bummed when after I helped that Elvis dude escapes he gets turned into a bloody burger.

I am scared to go back and play it....

Seeing Lemmings again brought back memories for me. It was one of the first games I ever played, my dad had it for the Acorn Archimedes.

You and me both, brother.

I'm scared too, but for different reasons, I think. I watched some let's plays and had to turn them off after 3 minutes each. The memories I have of that games are worth more than confirming or denying them.

I honestly don't know how you can look back at the Super Star Wars games as being anything other than mediocre. Visuals/sound effects were great for the time, but gameplay-wise? Yech. It's not like there was a shortage of great platformers back then.

Yup, the Super Star Wars games are still bad. Great graphics and sound effects though.

I never played any of the Super Star Wars games, but having looked them up later, they didn't seem particularly good.

I did play the NES Star Wars game and remember enjoying it, despite never making it past the space segment, but I went back and watched some of that too and it seemed filled with quite a bit of BS as well.

I fucking hate Quan Chi so much. Shang Tsung should have been the second-in-command bad guy they stuck with. He sucks in the games, too. Total garbage in MKX.

Awesome stream as always.

I never got into the original MK games, but I really remember liking Mythologies back in the day. I don't know if I ever got past the first level, though. At least not without cheating.

I'm also one of those 'rare' people that actually likes the design/integration of Quan Chi. From what I've played of MK9/MKX, Shinnok is the only character I didn't like.

So is MK Mythologies Jeff's Yoshi's Island?

Edit: I think Majora's Mask is actually a better fit here for what I'm trying to say.

I remember the demo for it (that came with Power Pete on Mac... right?) being scary as shit.

Thinking back on it, that thing looked real rough.

In regards to the split timeline timeline talk, MK Mythologies: Sub Zero take place before MK1. This game explains why Scorpion hates Sub Zero and kills him in the first Mortal Kombat Tournament (the beginning of MK9). Quan Chi tricks Scorpion and Sub Zero into fighting, resulting in Scorpion's death, and hires the Lin Kuei to kill Scorpion's clan. Quan Chi then turns Scorpion into a wraith and tells him Sub Zero is the one who killed his family.

So this game takes place before the timeline split, even though it came out after MK3.

Huh, yeah, odd to cite Lemmings as an RTS precursor. It was released just months before Dune II, at which point Tyrants: Fight Through Time, a proper RTS by modern standards was just getting released too. The Herzog games had been out for years at that point, which while not proper RTS games either, were much closer to the RTS genre than what Lemmings is. There were also stuff like Populous and SimAnt, which were about amassing armies and conquering enemies in real-time, even though you didn't have direct control of each unit there.

These guys are usually at their best when playing stuff that they like rather than whatever came out on any given week. Unprofessional Fridays are great when they manage avoid that pitfall but they've been relying on the new releases way too much. This feature forces them to avoid that crutch and I feel is the better feature of the two because of it.

It's weird. They were gifted a giant box of old games. Just plow through as many as DOS Box allows.

Oh man. I could just imagine people screaming in the chat that you had to flip jump to make it up that Sand Crawler. Dan wasn't paying attention and then got up and left the laptop on the couch for everyone to scream into the abyss. That would have been so frustrating if I had watched it live.

I also have found memories of a GBA Star Wars game, "Star Wars Trilogy" or something like that.
