@vinny That sit-down move Dan was doing with Yoshimitsu was a healing chant that refills his health. You asked him what was going on and he replied like he had no idea what you were talking about because the man has literally no honor.

The second Dan starts losing "WAIT WAIT WAIT HOLD ON!"

@bobeta: I don't know. Dan said several times he's got set strategies with each character and that he sticks to those strategies. After all those hours, he might be stuck in his ways and expect things to work out the way they have apparently always worked out for him. In that sense, he doesn't seem unbeatable if Vinny gets more experienced and maybe gets some lucky draws.

That said, if Dan does adapt, then his experience alone should make it very difficult for Vinny. Vinny would have to actually start practicing and get to know the characters. Also, even if Dan refrains from analyzing anything, he should naturally find out during play that Vinny's sidesteps are very effective at the moment and start countering that. And Dan will always have superior character knowledge.

It might indeed take a while. Based on the two episodes I'd say Vinny has to beat Dan early or it might not happen.

I think Vinny needs to grind it out with some dudes on XBL and PSN to get a better understanding of the cast, or else he'll be playing catch-up with Dan forever...

Love this series so much. Vinny and Dan killing it as always.

Does Dan sidestep even once?

Dan is like an A++ tier Soul Caliber player if said Soul Caliber player had three buttons on his controller that didn't work.

Is Dan right that some of these characters "suck" or is the game considered to be balanced for the most part?

Speaking as someone who's only ever played Soul Calibur on a very casual level, Dan is... kind of awful at this? I mean sure, he's not mashing, but even Vinny's utilizing side steps while Dan is err... not.

@roadshell: Nah. Bottom 3 is like Cervantes, Mina, Mitsurugi, and they're all perfectly viable. I actually don't really understand why Dan thinks Lizardman is bad. I guess he just never ran across any moves he likes?

I feel like this is gonna be one of those things where as vinny starts to get how soul calibur works, he'll become less likely to beat dan, the agent of chaos.

Yep Ivy has always been about combo chains, preferably at distance. Makes spamming almost useless. Since you have to know which specials chain from combos.

Also, my personal favorite has always been Sophita. She plays a bit slower than many fighters, but has decent range, and great damage.

@roadshell: I made a post about the character tiers in the comments on the first video. While this game is meant to be pretty well balanced, at the level Dan and Vinny are playing at there are certainly going to be a few characters with easily abusable moves that seem stronger.

Months ago I was hoping for an Ikari Warriors (This is the Run). We then get this. Love you guys though.

Dan barely useses sidestepping which seems a key mechanic and basically only does a couple moves.

I wouldn't take his word on anything about balance in this game.

When they first planned this on the Beastcast, I thought Vinny had no chance of hitting his target. (What was it, 8?) But seeing this, and knowing both the episodes were recorded on the same day - he's got this. I think the last match here was a fluke, since it was their fourth in a row. The next time they record, assuming it's a fresh day, Vinny will be very close. Vinny's still asking some basic mechanic questions, and he's already giving Dan this much of a fight. Once he learns more, it's a done deal.

Not that I need them to jump to the next 'This is the Run', but I'd love to see them do a run on River City Ransom or maybe Shadow of the Ninja.

I'm enjoying this run, but my mind can't stop wandering and thinking about all the future possibilities.

I like how Dan doesn't play horizontal at all and Vinny quickly learned to side step. Dan is really bad.

Anyway, I know Yoshi is a Tekken char too - but he's always been my favourite in Soul Calibur. So much fun.

Ivy is actually fantastic, you just have to learn some of her moves. For sure my favorite character.

It just seems like Dan just learned all the cheap tricks and dick moves in this game.

I sent @danryckert that Star Fox toilet paper and I'm glad it's going to good use.
