I really want to wait until January to get Civ: Beyond Earth because if I got it at release I'd miss out playing other games coming out this Autumn. But after just seeing 15 min of this I just want to lose myself in this game.

That tech tree design looks so, so reminiscent of Endless Space's.

Wait.. Do you have to manually click move or attack? Why aren't the units in move/attack mode immediately when they're selected, like in Civ 5?

I want this game so much. In college, we used to play Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire all the time on LAN. This spiritual successor looks just about as amazing.

What the fuck? That's Endless Space's tech tree, dude. You can't do that!

I could never get into Civ because the ahistorical maps mixed with historical civilisations really bothered me, so I'm glad this sidesteps that by having fictional factions and being set on another planet.

I really want to play this game. I hope it is as cool as it looks.

I can see the similarities. But come on, it's a tech tree/web. It's going to look the same. And if you're talking about the iconography placement (big category icon on left side, with smaller icons on the right), that's already been done in Civ 5.

Not really sure how I feel about these 'unfinished' videos of major games a month before release date when they're basically feature complete.

Really excited for this. I realize it's not that different from Civ, but a brand new tech tree and other Civ concepts would be great alone. And the twists with satellites, quests, upgrade types, and tech lines all make it seem really fresh beyond that.

Alex picking too many fights with aliens though. Live and let live man. Bug people are people too.

Oh maaaan, I haven't played a Civ in forever and this is making me want it. I'll play it imagining all the space monsters charging my colonists brandishing Murakami novels--they're not really hostile, they just want to talk about all these alienated loner protagonists, ok!!

@wiredfolf: Yes that sure was a flawless and totally useful thing. death star is the most useless thing ever. its like a nuke*10. It can only blow up an entire planet . If you live in a world with logic what use would that have? you will never use that thing.

If the OG sith folks would have come up with a better dope rhyme scheme to base their entire cult around there would be no need for a deathstar.

Man, I went thinking "meh, another Civ game" and seconds into it I, I had the itch. I can't wait this looks great,

The iconography itself is way different from Civ 5, and very close to Endless Space. The structure of the web is not very similar, though.

I was already on board for this game but now I feel like Beyond Earth can't come out soon enough.

I ended up playing about 90% of my 150ish hours of Civ5 on a custom workshop Mod/Map that reconfigured both the map and factions so it was more accurate to actual geography. You would still end up fighting the Aztec's as Japan but at least Washington wasn't right next to Kyoto.

(Yes, I know preordering is dumb, but 37 bucks at GMG is too good to pass up for a Firaxis game)

This just makes me want to play Civ.

Alpha Centauri was one of my favourite games growing up. Comparisons are warranted and inevitable, and at first glance this seems like it has a much less interested design overall. Less interesting factions without the core philosophical identities from AC, less interesting aliens (psychic mind worms vs bug things), less interesting unit specialization.

This looks like a competent product but seems soured by some design blandness.

In any case:
