If you hate the W10 start menu check out ClassicShell. With it I have very few problems with W10, although I have Pro so I can defer the big updates until they're patched

Fuck me I hate that I didn't just splurge for Pro when I built my PC. Just had my PC restart while I was downloading PoE two nights ago... I am looking into upgrading right now thanks to that + your comment. I was livid.

EDIT: Microsoft's upgrade page doesn't list controlling updates as part of a Pro feature. Are you sure you don't have Enterprise? Sorry, it's $100 and I'd pay it if I can defer these updates but...

@kebrel: are you saying Rorie's monitor is the Brothers of monitors?

@chalkcharmer: You still have to accept updates on pro but the periodic OS upgrades can be deferred for the sake of stability. Actually scheduling when updates are applied is the same on both versions, you have to set your working hours in settings

This video kind of makes me feel good about not being premium anymore.

That "Hover: Revolt of Gamers" also looks like an early original Xbox HD re-release, which is kind of awesome.

@chalkcharmer: I get the "its my PC let me update when I choose" but the creators update really improves performance, and also anyone still complaining about "Win10" menu is really confusing to me at this point.

There's essentially nothing different about it any longer, and besides who uses the menu to navigate to programs anyway? It usually faster to simply type out what you want, or use a shortcut.

I'm fairly sure that you can disable updates on Pro and just set it to notify when available (using Group Policy). I'm running Pro on my Surface, and until I updated last night the uptime was 25 days+, and I've never had it restart itself since changing those settings.

I've never understood why people are so befuddled by Windows 10 when it is superior in every way to Windows 7 at this point. Also windows updates are not hard to change the scheduled time or off completely. I haven't had a forced restart of windows in over 5 years so this usually comes down to user error and not the OS itself.
