I know this isn't shared by all but this is still one of the best features on this site. GBwest continues to kill with content even short handed. Gonna be even better when they get some more help. I appreciate the video game talk which is often missing from GBeast features. Each coast is great but this is still my preferred coast. Keep it up guys!

I never understand why you would copy other people's builds in ARPG's. Isn't it way more fun to figure it out on your own? Especially in Path of Exile.

There are definitely people on the site that give him shit because they just don't... like him for whatever reason. However, I think most of us, including myself, love that crazy man. Rorie is one of my favorite dudes on the site. Also, one of the few dudes that will pick stuff up in a game that the others miss and usually all-around good at games compared to the others. Probably from his game guide days.

@avioto: For myself, and I'm sure plenty of others, we don't have the kind of time that would take. It's more time efficient to find the class you like, look up the best way or ways to play it, and then enjoy the game.

@rebellion91: Fair enough! For me personally, figuring out a build is the most enjoyable aspect of ARPG's. I think I would get bored very quickly without that.

It was not mentioned on the stream but Path of Exile has a new, rather massive, in game help system. It has videos that break down nearly every aspect of the game as well as detailed written articles which unlock as you play. Also the early parts of the game now hold your hand far more than they used to, which makes getting into the game easier.

That being said one of the best ways to learn PoE is to copy another's build. There are plenty of subsystems to learn outside of the skill tree, so having a "build" spelled out allows you to learn the game. Also, playing another's build does not magically get you the gear you need to make the build efficient. You still need to make tough choices while leveling and this is a great learning experience. The fastest way to find builds is to youtube the release number and the word "builds". Once you do understand the game, making your own build work can be very rewarding .

Path of Building is extremely helpful in planning a build and will break down how every node effects your overall offense/defense, you can also see what gems are efficient and how gear will effect your stats (which is massively helpful). If you dig this game, a simple way to get started making a build is to pick an active skill you like, then pick an ascendency you think would synergize well with the skill, add some secondary skills (auras, heralds, curses) to taste.

The skill tree itself, though scary at first, is divided into classes and further subdivided into weapon and mechanic specific modules. This means once you know what skill your using and your ascendancy...you can ignore large parts of the tree. There are generally 2 paths from any given node (offensive or defensive). Generally you want to path towards life nodes and take as much life as possible, while also pathing towards build specific keystones to further flesh out your character.

A Loot Filter will get rid of cruddy gear cluttering your tree (trust me you will not miss the items it hides and can hit Alt to show hidden items on the ground at any time if you don't trust me) as you level while making stuff you should be picking up more visible. This game has built in recipes, and loot filters help point out items which are recipe specific as well.

Furthermore I did not see it mentioned on stream but PoE does not have gold. All currency is used to craft gear, or you can save it and barter with players for items.

Once you get through the 10 acts (Note: this game used to have 4 acts you had to play through on normal, cruel and merciless difficulty; they got rid of cruel and merciless with the recent 3.0 expansion and added 6 acts to the game. The boss fight Rorie showed on stream was old from 2.0; the new content, act 5-10 starts right after that Malachai boss fight, act 5 was briefly shown on his second character. Also Note: the game allows lesser skilled players to chain die on bosses and teleport back in so they can progress through the story...your xp will be hurting if you keep doing this after level 60 however, so ideally learn the fights and try not to die, every fight is possible without dying) the game does not end. Many long term players, myself included, would argue the game actually begins in maps.

This was a great UPF.
