Tom Cruise is devoted to a religion (let's call it a cult) based on mediocre science fiction, but he can be a great actor. I appreciate him for that (and he was actually a nice and funny guy on the Nerdist podcast)

Phil Fish's blunt and outspoken opinions mixed with questionable arrogance made him a lot of (sometimes bat-shit crazy) enemies, but he made a great game and he was a game designer with really fresh ideas. I appreciate him for that (and he has actually been a nice and funny guest on Giant Bomb)

David Jaffe has an addiction to swearing, spits controversial, but sometimes intelligent and insightful, opinions on the internet and mostly doesn't seem to care whether somebody likes him or not. However, he has made some great fucking games in the past and I appreciate him for that.

Man, I'm really getting sick of all the hostility on the internet and especially don't get those who just want him to disappear altogether.

I don't really get the hate for Jaffe. I honestly think he has made some good games over the years. Even if it was just mainly Twisted Metal he has made, those are still fun games and undeniably has affected the game industry a lot. God of war is the same way except, it had a coo story, good gameplay, and some awesome looking set pieces. Plus let's not forget Kinetica and Calling All Cars both good games. Even if he makes some very big and bold comments and they wind up not being true, he still has some good work under his belt and I cannot wait to see his new game.

@captainda: That was very well written but unfortunately we all know that humans cannot have both good and bad qualities. They are either good or bad. You can tell which is which simply from following the media/popular opinion which in turn feeds popular opinion/media. It's a beautiful symbiotic relationship that guarantees 100% accuracy in judging someone a good or bad person.

This looks like some PS2 era crazy trailer stuff, looking forward to what comes out of Jaffe's brain (and his studio) next! :)

I love David Jaffe and his games (except God of War but it was cool when it came out).

Maybe this is Twisted Metal Black 2 but after the last TM game's (unfortunate) reception it's unlikely.

Couldn't have said it better. I don't even know a tonne about Jaffe, but the E3 Bombcast featuring him and Brad Muir is still one of the best. I follow him on Twitter and while he can be abrasive, I generally like what he has to say.

I was never especially into the guy, but I don't get why we hate him. Maybe I've forgotten some terrible gaffe or something but I'm really more concerned about what was on that plate. Cookies and Cream icecream maybe?

@gutterkisser: The guy also has a eye for good design, I don't really regard the combat of god of war on the same level as Devil may Cry or Ninja gaiden, but that game did scale and spectacle extremely well. I was also a big fan of how the recent Twisted Metal played.

I recall him discussing the way CoD3 felt in comparison to the post CoD4 games, how the survivability of your character in the earlier games really changed the pacing and how meeting another player felt like more of an encounter. I also remember him talking about how the MGS games almost made you feel like you had a relationship with the bosses because of how long a fight could go on.

I felt as if Jaffe sort of gets good and memorable game design opposed to many of the other people on that e3 stream.
