I'll say it: They've transplanted old boring Zelda tropes into Shadow of the Colossus.

if it weren't zelda and it weren't nintendo i think everyone would be estatic.

i still am, for one. i think this looks gorgeous and a nice huge world. i have some misgivings about how well it serves zelda to make it open world still, but this has me hyped to play it nonetheless.

Contrary to the mostly negative reactions to this trailer and the game play on the live stream, I think this looks really cool. Granted, I haven't played a Zelda game since Majora's Mask, so I missed out on acclaimed titles like Windwaker and A Link Between Worlds.

I'm starting to miss the games I played when I was younger, and if this captures a small part of that, then I'm down for it. Call it blindly following nostalgia or whatever other dismissive comment you can come up with, but I thought it looked good enough to give it a shot, and like something I would enjoy.

This looks... fantastic. I've fallen away from the Nintendo hype train over the last few years, but if there's one thing that they deliver it's the promise of their initial reveals - for better or for worse. If Breath of the Wild can maintain the beautiful aesthetics and interesting world that they showcased in the Treehouse and trailer I'll be more than pleased.

Looks really cool. Also, the opening shots are meant to be empty guys, every open world action RPG trailer has those sans-NPCs landscape shots...

I couldn't have asked for a better trailer. I can't even think what else I personally could have added/wanted. What an incredible first trailer!!! Blows ever other Zelda trailer out of the water by a landslide!

This looks amazing. My favourite aesthetic since WW. Got a huge Ico/SotC vibe from this. No idea what to make of the gameplay though, but it looks interesting

My excitement has been tempered a bit by watching more of the livestream. I'm getting a Wind Waker on land vibe: clusters of stuff to do separated by barren expanses. Hopefully the final game will be more lively.

Portions of this are very reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus.

Also, VOICE ACTING?!

I just like the look of the environments. I play Zelda for the dungeons, which is why I am one of the few people here who really liked Twilight Princess. If they can take these visual themes from the overworld and put them into fun dungeons then I'm in.

My sealed envelope plot predictions from the trailer and the little bit of gameplay I've seen:

• Link was sealed away/frozen in time for many years and wakes up from the Zelda cryo-sleep equivalent at the beginning of the game.
• The voice speaking to him is Zelda and she's speaking to him through the Sheikah Slate.
• Zelda is speaking to link from either the past or the Sacred Realm (or some kind of different realm).
• Time travel will play a role with link going back in time to when that cathedral thing was still standing, those weird tentacle peahat things will be back to life in the past as well.
• Possibly replace time travel with travelling to different versions of Hyrule a la LttP.
• Only Zelda and the main antagonist will have voice acting.
• Feelings of warm fuzziness will ascend our bodies into the ethereal plane.

I like that they show all these different ways of taking out enemies, when I just know that I will pretty much always run in and wail on the Attack button.

Looks great. Can't wait to see/play more

This is what all of Nintendo's games should look like. They're such insular misers with both their hardware and software most of the time; they wouldn't have to chase customers with new hardware gimmicks each generation if this was the standard they applied to most of their games.

I like that he has to scan his passport to enter the Fire Temple.

Far Cry 2: The Legend of Zelda

Feels nice to be excited about Zelda again.

I wasn't super excited by the trailer, but GameSpot's hands-on demo actually got me pretty pumped.

Also, I love Zelda, so I was always going to buy this anyways, but glad to have something that looks promising.

Very psyched. This is exactly the direction the Zelda series should have taken post-Twilight Princess. It's insane that as other games have embraced the open world formula, the series that pioneered it in the first place instead went with such a closed and linear installment with Skyward Sword. Also, Link finally wearing a suit of armor instead of variations on a miniskirt is LOOOONG overdue.

I haven't watched all of the Nintendo/Zelda stuff but after watching this I REALLY want this game to be Link wandering a desolate world with no NPCs/villages/etc. I got the same solitude vibe that I get from Ico/SotC and early Metroid games.

This soundtrack is straight out of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

I knew this would happen. I'm getting excited.

@ripelivejam: Not to be "that guy" but making an open world Zelda game is just returning it to it's roots. The whole "this is a huge world, go explore it and find stuff" is exactly what the first Zelda was on the NES and why is was so incredible for it's time. The more recent ones have leaned more and more towards directed experiences, but the core Zelda experience was open world, I'm incredibly excited to see it appears to be returning to those roots.

This trailer doesn't do justice to what was shown during today's Treehouse stream. I don't know why Nintendo is so bad at first trailers for their games.

@orshick:I think the shader model they're using makes the final image look 'flat', a similar result you get from pumping gamma too high.

Getting some serious Ghibli vibes from this, especially Nausicaa. From what I've seen though I will definitely be waiting for the NX version of this.

Looks pretty cool, but the animation looks a bit rough. Sure it will be amazing though. Too bad I dont buy Nintendo consoles anymore. Two franchises arent enough for me. Zelda, and Metroid are really the only games I would buy. And shit, are they even making Metroid games anymore? Thought I heard the market wasnt big enough.

@doctordonkey: yeah if it ends up looking even better, and they're able to have higher fidelity and more going on on screen with the nx then definitely. not sure how close to launch i may get an nx though (nintendo fanboy that i am)
