I'm presuming they're insinuating this is actually Morales, not Parker?

Nope. He refers to himself as "Pete" while taking down the helicopter. But Miles is in it.

Time to get nerdy, but my avatar is still Spider-Man so I guess it's fitting.

Peter is definitely the Spidey we see in the trailer, but in the comics both Peter and Miles are acting as separate Spider-Men.

The villain is a guy called Mr. Negative. Among other things he has the ability to twist/mind control people a bit (think photo negative and negative versions of yourself AKA comics y'all). Him grabbing Spider-Man at the end could be significant because it could be a plot point where Spidey goes bad for a bit and Miles takes over.

My one hope is that this isn't a Snake/Raiden thing. Miles is fine, but I just don't like games pulling extended bait and switches.

Traversal stuff looks cool but all those QTE's look lame. I wish they had you doing more free form web stuff in some of those bigger scenes. Like running up the crane and webbing it to the building. Instead of just pressing a button every couple seconds give the player control of his arms, give them a reticle, and just start webbing it themselves. Idk I had high hopes for this and this trailer has lowered them a bit.

It's toatally Peter Parker, Morales is just an onlooker, I wonder if later during the game we will get a death of peter parker sequence and play through the origin of the Miles Spider-man. Also a lot of these mechanics are pulled from previous spider-man games, just has a way bigger budget backing it this time. I was just hoping for a complete re-imagining/ re-design of the gameplay, swinging does look nice and the set pieces seem cool, too many QTE's tho.

I... am really concerned about how open this will be. That swinging looked pleasantly like you can screw it up (a couple of times he swings right into a building and the game is clever enough to transition to a wallrun). That said, I'm not sure if they're approximating physics the way SM2 did, it looks a bit like the Amazing Spider-Man games' swinging instead. And it's also unclear how all those transitions into scripted sequences are going to work. I mean, how did the game know where the player would catch up with the helicopter so they could go on that extended building crash sequence? How does that "squeezing through the collapsing billboard" thing trigger?

This looks a lot like the Beenox games, to be honest, and... I mean, those were alright, but they never delivered the superhero fantasy thing you want from a Spider-Man game, which in my experience includes a lot of swinging around aimlessly and trying to web up random objects and people. I miss Spider-Man as physics playground.

It does *look* great, though.

Looked like there might be some straight up Prototype runnin up a wall. Honestly, as long as getting around the city is enjoyable I'll pick this up. Spiderman 2 wasn't a great game, but the basic traversal was so enjoyable I ended up putting like thirty hours into it. Might bet a similar experience here.

@stanek1: What does that have to do with what I said? It's still the same gameplay as the Amazing Spider-Man games. 2 attached to buildings IIRC.

@skullcrushermountain: I thought it was insinuating that there was a Morales and Parker. Which could be interesting.

@sloppydetective: That sounds great in principle, but allowing that much freedom provides two problems. First, if they allow complete autonomy nothing will ever look different over the long term. You'll never really see the outcome of securing the crane, because the game won't be able to account for the variety of secure points. Second, it will ensure that everyone fails more often because they didn't shoot it enough times, or in the right spots, without a clear indicator for why they failed. QTEs at least give the dev the chance to give the player "alternate" win states. There were clear places that the scenario prompted a QTE, that was missed, and the game kept combat flowing anyway.

@noelveiga The video shows where there is a brief "triangle" prompt as soon as Spidey was close enough to the copter. That's probably the trigger event, so it could kick off from any point during the chase so long as the player has caught up.

My favorite combat tweak is how it handles counters. If the player can see the attacker they glow red, if not, you get the general "spidey sense" tingle but no floating indicator from the off screen assailant. This keeps the clutter to a minimum, while still allowing the player to keep their combo's flowing.

From an artistic perspective I truly love how much care is shown in how Spidey engages in combat. He takes specific actions to ensure that the enemies are knocked out or captured, but doesn't allow them to be thrown off the building to their deaths. He also doesn't spend too long on any one enemy, everything is about quick disorienting hits, then web capture. Some of the more recent games just turned into beat downs.

I like how pretty this is, it's a real nice rendition of my fav superhero. But the gameplay looks a lot like Arkham(which granted, did a lot of things that Spider-Man did in the comics), and added on top of that are a lot of scripted sequences and QTEs. That's not really stuff that I love, even though it looks cool the first time around.

@revendawn: I think some of the worst things they could do was acknowledge Miles, as well as all the other Spider-folks running around. I know he's more popular than most of them(He might have some competition from Spider-Gwen's great costume? Ben Reilly seems popular too), but honestly I don't care that much about any of them. The only alternate Spider I really liked was Superior Spider-Man, and that's 100% because it's Dr. Octopus trying to be a good guy and Peter tries to be the angel on his shoulder.

Considering how Arkham this is and how most of the spiders wear similar costumes, I guess there could be challenge rooms where you could play as them?

I actually dig the QTEs in this trailer. Instead of just having a cinematic full of QTEs, this game looks to use them to smooth the transition from cinematic into actual full control gameplay in those big set piece moments. Like the crane bit, it goes from him running up it and stopping it from falling right into swinging. Keeping the player engaged through that sequence lets them know to keep the controller ready because you are jumping right back into gameplay. I would feel different if the QTEs were dramatically separated from the gameplay, but the way it all flows from cinematic to QTE to gameplay feels good.

There is certainly a limit on how much QTE I can handle, but if this game limits them to these cool set pieces I don't mind them at all. But if there is a single door or single lever I have to hammer X to open... unacceptable.

Seems like a different video than the one in the stream ? At least spiderman says a lot more quips than i remember. Anyway looks real good, i would really like something with Morales in it as i am 100% unfamiliar with the character and that would be a perfect spot for a spiderdman reboot(cough*marvel movie*cough)

The QTEs seem pretty generous with their timing. You can also see the player fail the first Mr. Negative helicoper hit and have to zip back up for another shot.

The whole thing really does seem like UnchartedxArkhamxSpidey.

@gaminggumper: Yeah, the amount of custom animation in combat is kinda crazy. The contextual stuff is everywhere and the takedowns come fast and hard and don't repeat a lot, at least in this demo. I'm still not sure how this maps to actual inputs, but... yeah, looks cool.

But I still find the way they are handling gameplay to cinematics or QTEs and back feels a bit more rigid than I'd expect in an open world environment. I definitely need to see this being played or play it before I can tell if it's going to be any good. I'm not super negative about it, but I'm definitely a bit more cautious than I was after the first trailer.

I remember thinking the idea of a new (and black) Spider Man was cool so I got one of those collection thingies with a bunch of chapters, which I thought might be a good jumping on point as it supposedly starts the Miles Morales story (It was called Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider Man: Ultimate collection, I think).

I ended up not being that into it since he was established more as a separate Spider Man instead of as the "main one". The Peter Parker one already existed in that world and had recently passed away. So a lot of the stories came with a bunch of baggage I wasn't interested in. He also had a different suit and some different powers, and I kind of wanted him to just be Spider Man, with a different alter ego.

Despite all that I still kinda like him, or the idea of him, so if he's in this game and playable then that's cool. I haven't been totally wooed by what they've shown yet, but the pedigree of the developers is still enough to keep my interest.

A little more Uncharted in this than I would generally prefer. The combo system looks sweet though.

I just don't really care about Miles, so as long as Peter Parker they give peter a decent game i'll be happy.

Subtle thing, but they're really leaning into Vincent D'Nofrio's portrayal of Kingpin from the Daredevil series.

Also WOW! Mr. Negative, Capt. Watanabe, they're going STRAIGHT from the comics in a more obscure way. I like.
