Hey, Brad Saw Star Wars

This is probably the most plot-free discussion of the The Last Jedi that you'll ever see. But you'll also get to hear about how Brad had to give his phone to a security guard before they'd let him see a movie that's already out in some territories. Did Brad like it? Who can say?

I didn't even know the film wasn't out yet in the USA.

Also, Street Figther IV is the second most important fighting game in history.

I love Brad, but "nah, no, they should have stopped after Jedi' feels like an oddly stubborn viewpoint at this point. I mean, I get that you're not a big Star Wars guy anymore, but the new movies have spread joy to a heck of a lot of people out there. Kind of odd to wish that away when you're already admittedly tuned out of the franchise.

"If you want to see Star Wars, see Star Wars" - Brad Shoemaker

Don't know if it will be the best review, but it's definitely my fav so far....I would love it if somehow this made it on the retail box when it comes out.

Best review of the film yet.

This is great. Not because I give a crap about Star Wars, but because of how weird this industry is that Lucasfilm sends invites out to see the new Star Wars and also oh by the way here's some game stuff.

@grouchomilk: He's not wrong. Star Wars is tired. If it brings people joy, that's great, but it's like vanilla ice cream. People can enjoy that, and many do (it's still listed as the number one favorite of the masses), but it's still just vanilla ice cream. Tired, boring, vanilla ice cream. It's well beyond time for people to try something more than vanilla.

@juxjuxjux: I mean I get that--I'm not even a big Star Wars fan myself--but seeing my nieces and nephews absolutely geek out over these movies has opened up some newfound sensitivities for me, I suppose. Edit: Also, there's a big difference between 'vanilla ice cream is boring and tired, but if you want to enjoy it, fine' as opposed to 'they should have stopped making vanilla ice cream 30 years ago.'

In the background, is that the stuffed animal Dan placed in the eating area when they moved floors? Did someone finally removed it?

There's a video going around of the new Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition intro alongside "Indestructible"... oh screw it I'll do the leg work. Here it is.

After marveling at how good it synced up, my friend stated that song would sync to any trailer. So I did the only next logical thing.

At some point I had the line "I'll still be holding on" as a dude's getting sucked into the ground. So all in all a pretty fun-filled Tuesday evening.

@grouchomilk: I think that's really great, and I'm genuinely happy to hear that as an uncle myself. Star Wars was always intended for kids, and like most media created for that demographic, ideally serves as a launching pad into deeper, better, and more fulfilling options to explore as those interests grow. But here we are, living in a time where most people only want that younger skewing media (where stuff like Star Wars and comic book movies reign), and never look for more.

Not a bad thing necessarily, I guess, but kinda lame for people who are looking for that "more," and see studios constantly failing to take risks on something that could be even better than Star Wars, and could give everyone (including kids) something new, and more interesting to think about.

Then again, we're talking about this on a video game website. As people with nieces and nephews. Who am I to really judge?

@zoofame: Honestly I don't disagree with any of what you guys are saying. I just thought it was silly to say they shouldn't have made any after Jedi. Didn't mean for my comments to come off as some sort of 'the new ones are popular, therefore they're good/shouldn't strive for more' statement.

Edit: And also, I feel a bit silly at this point because I'm responding to an offhand comment Brad made in a Giantbomb video that I'm sure he doesn't feel all that strongly about either way. Alas...

It's weird how people seemed to more or less love The Force Awakens when it first came out (with the exception of those who felt it was "Disneyfied Star Wars") but have since looked back with a more critical eye. I watched The Force Awakens a few days after it came out and was actually really pleased with it overall. I had really low expectations after the last mess of movies so when it was said and done, I thought, "Hey, that was a pretty fun movie." Watching it again last week I thought, "Hey, that was still a pretty fun movie." In closing: Star Wars fanatics are the worst.

Watched the movie Tuesday night. They told us the same thing. We couldn't talk about the plot on twitter, periscope, snapchat etc, but we could do a review. No one wants to be spoiled by scrolling through their Twitter timeline, so I get it.

@whalesex: Not coming after you or anything, but I distinctly remember getting annoyed at what I thought were a lot of moments that were derivative of A New Hope. Not everyone agrees of course, but that's what I took from it. I'm also by no means a huge fan though.

It's really easy to not care about Battlefront 2 or the loot create stuff when you just don't buy those games. Care free and enjoying other video games.

@whalesex: b-b-but the canon, and the EU, and Legends ruined it all, and and...

Just ugh, yeah, the problem with fandom is the fans, tbh.

That said, this takes some ideas/concepts from the comic/novel stuff and brings it into the movies proper, and it's pretty sweet. It's definitely not the movie you'd expect it to be though, which is where a lot of the divided opinion comes from, I think.

As a video gamesman who also thoroughly enjoys Sports, Anime, and Movies (including Star Wars), I have to occasionally ignore Jeff and Brad's general dismissal of good things. Variety is truly the spice of life.

I will probably be dragged to watch this movie with the family over Christmas break, so I'm not exactly going out of my way to watch it. I'm sure it's fine and enjoyable, in the same way that The Force Awakens was fine and enjoyable but maaaaan I can't help but feel totally lukewarm as a whole about Disney's ultra-corporate, ultra-safe take on Star Wars.

I'm not a super huge fan of the Star Wars films, so I personally probably wouldn't go see it in theater myself. My dad, on the other hand, being a Star Wars fan (saying the first is his favorite film ever), and us seeing them all together, I'll most likely see this one in theaters too. I'm still disappointed I didn't see Blade Runner 2049 in theaters... But hey! It's out digitally on Amazon by the end of this month! I can't wait.

Pretty into Jeff giving zero fucks in this video. "Get over it. It's just a movie, come on." Damn, son!
