Sony's Giving PS4 Special Edition PS1 Makeover

It is bizarre. I've had this strange nostalgia itch for the past week or so. I was listening to the PS1 boot noise on repeat, and looking at pictures of the old thing... and now this. It is a sign! My quest begins!

Because it isn't meant to be a PS1. It's just an homage...

Just sell the controller separately, please. I have the PS4 already I just need that controller!

Stop telling me that your products are iconic. No one ever gave a fuck about the PSP when it existed yet they treat it like it was some sort of masterclass in mobile gaming.

@kill_la_kill; Console sales last generation ended in a dead heat, and as for the big bet on Blu-Ray, it's hard to argue it didn't pay off when the competition is using your drive and format. He didn't "gloss over" the PS3 due to any remaining stigma attached to the console. This limited-edition release just isn't a PS3 or even PS2 homage, it's very specifically a tribute to the original Playstation.

i mean the whole line up is different hardware changes that have been done to playstation console over the years, and you are trying to sell a paint job with it?

i mean they literally just asked the robot to paint the plastics on that thing that color instead of black.

What's cool is that Sony released a free theme for PS4 today that has the PSX boot sound. It doesn't play nice with the PS4's normal "key tone" but if you go into settings and turn it off, it's all gravy.

i dont really know about the grey coloring on the console itself but i might pick up one of those controllers if they sell them seperatly

No thanks. I'm not getting a worse color console just because it happens to be the shit color the first console had. Black looks a lot better, so does white. Also, 12.300 units really isn't that limited. I'm guessing anyone who really wants this will be able to buy it.

Went ahead and updated all my Sony and electronic retailers accounts in the hopes I may snatch one of these, if the price is right. The plan, keep in mint condition and store for the long haul.

Does anyone know if there's a skin or decal or whatever in the PSX style? I rather like this look but I'd rather not fork out for a new system.

I think the white looks much nicer. Gray to me looks dated. Still cool that Sony is doing this though.
