Xcom: Enemy Unknown is one of my favorites, cannot wait for this.

And so the 'mobile base' stuff was nonsense right? Because that base looks super stationary/huge.

It's weird having this try and fail at getting my attention now as the MGS5 hype is at critical mass. The previous XCOM was one of my all time most beloved games.

It's like I can only be excited for one thing at a time. Stupid brain. :(

You see the base move on the world map at the end of the trailer, though...?

That strategic level gameplay looks really interesting and has me the most excited. Rather than just a linear "doom tracker" countdown it looks like you're playing to counter the AI opponent's own strategic choices.

I'm going to imagine a backstory that Lily Shen underwent some major re-constructive face surgery to make sense with that terrible 3D model and animation.

Very cool. Looks like ignoring the mission info about the UFO hunting the Avenger lead to a side mission. I'm hoping that level of choice will remain throughout.

EDIT- And I liked the GAMES COM thing.

So same basic structure, but future tech, and an interesting twist on the way x-com is usually done. They also have you in control of a character, kinda-sorta (since your playing someone who was unfrozen/had stuff put in them) which means we are getting a more story-heavy experience as well?

So long as the story bits have the 'click to skip/turn off' given I am sure I'll be replaying the opening sections 20+ times. All I really want out of X-com 2 is the same basic idea, but with a new coat of paint and neat surprises. Like, give me the same level of improvement the long-war did, only in the story department and so on? Sure! (and man I hope someone over there played the long-war and blatantly stole the good ideas from it for this game)

Good to see fall out 4 isn't the only big game left to come out for me this year. (I'm still in the "i bet Persona 5 doesn't ship this year camp")

Looks like they also payed way more attention to dialog and atmosphere, or had more budget. Either way, even if its a bad habit, this is instant pre-order followed by a black hole of X-com goodness..

Edit: Goddamn am I exited for this, want it now!

Edit: WHY NOVEMBER! Firaxis is a cruel mistress.

And the first words of this trailer literally say "repurposed Alien transport perfect for being a mobile HQ" so, yeah, it's mobile.

Maybe? It sounds like you are just playing the same commander from XCom put in stasis for 20 or so years. Though given the emphasis on Chen, there maybe more direct story ties to previous characters. If they read your old save file to put together some sort of Fire Emblem 2nd generatuion thing based upon your squad...

@endaround: Like the way I look at is this.

In the first game you were the commander..but in the most generic "We are talking to you, the player" sense. You got talked 'at' but were not playing a specific character. The commander in x-com one has no backstory, no personality traits, or etc. He is you, the player, straight up.

In this game? The commander has back story and it would seem like plot attached to them. Superficial maybe but now when the characters are talking to 'the commander" its not going to literally me, the player, but a character I am playing. I know I certainly wasn't taken off ice with an alien chip removed from my skull any-time recently.

Is that distinction any clearer now? LIke there are lots of games which address 'the commander', ostensibly as part of the story but really, its just code for "The player" and no personality traits or story elements are given to them beyond 'your the dude in charge of this battle". Ala The Red Alert or starcraft 1 stuff. This seems like a step closer to starcraft 2, if that makes any sense.

Looks interesting. I guess enemy assaulting your base is the new the dooms day tracker? I wonder how that'll be play out. If it is an instant fail or you have to fight it out, if you can fight it out and keep winning I can see you can take your sweet time building up your forces. I like it, but I would assume a lot of people prefers the high pressure decision making gambit of the old game.

Didn't the other trailer showed the base grounded rather than flying?

And yes I was expecting the older Chen, so what happened to the lead scientist from the old game?

Hiring named scientist/engineer with perks and attaching them to projects looks like a new layer of management which seems like it favors the long term play instead of the constant ticking clock.

No Caption Provided

Well it is just me being picky but the bridge appears to be suddenly indented opposed to the rest of her nose showing that she may have broken cartilage or somin'.

This just highlights the fact that she has no tear ducts!?

Edit: Also the 3d model isn't terrible. It's clearly made to be downscaled well.

For those of you who want a bit more than the video, here is the link to said video commentated by the lead designer. Some interesting info about the design process and ideas behind them. I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

Seems kind of limiting compared to double that in the Xcom:EU; Very limiting.
