Who parks their car like that when playing open world games? I usually drive into the front door, and just get different car on the way out.

Looks really good and I've got my preorder though two things concern me, whether there's any radio stations in the cars and if other players in your game will resort to griefing.

The best bit of this video was the Narrator crashing into everything while he was driving.

Apparently, in Watch Dogs, there's no such thing as airplane mode or taking out a battery.

So I'm assuming that when you invade another player's world you aren't able to just walk up behind them and blow their head off. You must have to hack them before any confrontation can occur.

Meh, I hope that multiplayer stuff can be disabled. It seems cool in theory, but I don't want to always worry about what I'm doing being interrupted by other people. Other than that, it seems interesting.

Yeah it'll be optional, iirc mentioned as being something you have to activate on purpose, flat out.

You can't hack in the area remotely, so you will hack a server locally to upload a virus that will allow you to hack remotely.

Ok, that's cool then. One of the biggest bummers about GTA IV (to me) was being interrupted by NPCs wanting to do stuff when I was just trying to get to the next mission start. I know you could turn them down, but then you'd lower their friendship rating and such. This seems (mostly) more interesting than that, but sometimes you just want to plow through the game, you know?

@reelife: I guess you can always hack cameras in line of sight no matter what, the whole "if you can see it, you can hack it" is just wierd. But it's a game it cools fun so I can play along with that part.

So what, exactly, is the point of hacking other players? What do you get out of it? What do you lose if you get hacked?

Yup. IIRC it's like six buttons/keys and the phone is set to silent. I've done speedrun attempts of GTA4 and screw it when the game squeezes in a social call in the milliseconds it takes to turn it to silent mode..

Yeah I was confused about that too. I think maybe the idea is you have to do the CTOS stuff to hack people's phones?

Overall looking really solid. Three things got to me though;

  • The traversal animation of Aiden is nice and fluid, which makes it really awkward when he walks into a shop by actually just walking into a damn door. I didn't see a single door related moment in the trailer where he looked like he was actually interacting with the door.
  • With the ctOS crime prediction system looking really efficient, shouldn't it at some point be a bit better at finding where and what Aiden is actually up to? Or is the conceit that he's hacking them and staying one step ahead?
  • The whole being hacked by other people and entering their games looks interesting but I couldn't shake the whole "I know we're both Aiden" and the fact that human players just move in a way that sort of breaks the illusion of the universe.

Yeah, but you do hack into their security cameras remotely before installing the virus (which I am guessing @reelife was talking about) in that specific area. Which is probably just a gameplay short-cut to avoid making virus install on those secured locations a complete hassle.

Does look fascinating, and the asynchronous multiplayer drop-in drop-out seems really cool. I hope there is an option to have it off though, because constantly responding to players trying to hack or kill you, without you knowing would be super irritating. Also not being informed there's another player would lead to a lot of random deaths.

Also I presume that there will be multiple disguises for Aiden otherwise he's going to kinda stick out when joining other people's games.

What the hell is with these security guards' income rates? Six figures for guard duty?

EDIT: I guess they are pretty badass security guards... with AK47s

Every player looks like Aiden on their own screen - but when you're in someone else's game you look like a random NPC to them.

So can you be a straight up villain in this? Killing guards for no reason and stealing bank accounts from mothers is pretty dastardly.

I don't know why, but I get the urge to play this game really amorally, more so then other games.

The rules are simple. Anyone who gets in my way is my enemy.

As in you can do it without any fear of repercussion so your not getting docked but you know you did it kind of thing I am sure the game will keep track somehow, they are just creating situations and letting the player make a choice without outside influence of good/bad in these events, OBVIOUSLY its pretty F'ed up to do that but you won't get caught so if you just don't care then do it.

Of course, but what I was getting at was that with their context of black/white/shades of grey, simply stealing from someone is not morally ambiguous (a shade of grey), it's just a bad thing (black).

Now, had there been more context, such as the single mother using all her money to support a drug habit and not taking care of her child, then it's much more morally ambiguous as to whether or not stealing her money is a good thing or a bad thing.

@pezen: Yah it's a bit contrived but you apparently can't hack things connected to the network? So he couldn't hack phones because they're in the CTOS network which he hasn't compromised in that area. He can apparently hack local stuff like the forklift or closed circuit cameras, although how he's hacking into a forklift is beyond me.

Then, I'd really be able to play this as if it were 'Person of Interest' the game.

I started out with this on in the background as i was doing something else.....by half way through i was completely paying attention and by the end i was fully invested in the narrator getting revenge for being hacked....

If the gameplay is half as engrossing as the demo, Watch Dogs may give GTA 5 a run for its money.

Cant wait to find out.

@cale: @fargofallout: Seems like in the demo here you had to travel to the area first, maybe you get those notifications but can ignore or disable those specifically either through a menu or simply not traveling to the area... which in the demo was fairly out of the way. I mention that cause the other player couldn't have started the hack from that far away so in traveling there you're prolly setting yourself up to connect to the hacker yourself, seamless.

I have to imagine you can't actually use your weapon until your in 'combat mode', which in the case of multiplayer is only activated by the hack itself.

Also isn't there term Hack not appropriate for 90% of the stuff in this game? Breaking INTO security for the purpose of anything nefarious is called Cracking, I think. Hacking is Whitehat term for gentle exposing security threats to the owners of whatever. I think.

Of course Hacking sounds infinitely more cool than Cracking, so I really prefer the term anyways.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_(computer_security)

They are subject to the long standing hacker definition controversyabout the true meaning of the term hacker. In this controversy, the term hacker is reclaimed by computer programmers who argue that someone breaking into computers is better called a cracker,[4] not making a difference between computer criminals (black hats) and computer security experts (white hats).[5] Some white hat hackers claim that they also deserve the title hacker, and that only black hats should be called crackers.

Yeah, the politicians are going to love this one.
