He quickly befriends the station's chief engineer Miles O'Brian as well as the station's science officer Jadzia Dax. It was eventually revealed that he was genetically enhanced by his parents after he struggled in school. Because of the modification Bashir has superior mental and physical abilities compared to most humans. This is also highly illegal in the Federation.
