2K Sports is the sports title publishing arm of 2K Games which is a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.  The label was formed in 2005 after Take-Two purchased the sports game developers Visual Concepts and its subsidiary Kush Games from Sega in a deal worth $24 million and Indie Built (formerly Access Software) from Microsoft Game Studios

2K Sports current has exclusive rights to release third party titles for the Major League Baseball (though Sony Computer Entertainment is allowed to release their own first party titles for the PS3 and PSP) and World Poker Tour brands.  They also release their own NHL hockey and NBA basketball titles on a yearly basis and have also released titles in the boxing and tennis genres as well.  After Electronic Arts acquired exclusive rights to release NFL football games, 2K Sports attempted to compete by releasing All Pro Football 2K8 which used historical players and venues.  After the title failed to perform commercially, no new releases in the series were announced.
