The guy had a hugely positive impact on many people, and lived long enough to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything. I can only dream of such a thing. He died far too young. Fuck cancer. Prescribe Chamalla.
Adam Adamowicz
Adam Adamowicz was a concept artist for Bethesda Softworks. He passed away on February 9, 2012.
Bethesda Concept Artist Adam Adamowicz Passes Away
What a beautifully artistic mind sadly lost, may he rest in peace and may his art inspire thousands.
He was so young. This is really sad news, R.I.P
He has done such amazing work, he will really be missed. The looks of Fallout 3 and Skyrim are amazing, and we have him to thank for it. My thoughts are with his friends and family.
His legacy, his art, and his talent lives on. And boy is it one HELL of a legacy.
This just furthers my belief that everyone knows at least one person that has had, or will have, cancer. Some might die. Some might not. But this fucking disease needs to be expunged from the planet and we need to work harder to find a cure instead of throwing money at marching people to their death or funding centuries old cults and doctrines. Our continued ignorance and vanity is leading to death that could probably be prevented.
And I say this as someone that is currently watching a close friend, a friend that got married no more than a year ago, die from cancer. Slowly. It doesn't even have the dignity to take her quickly. Absolutely fucking disgusting.

Also "Passes away" is a really childish way to say "Died" in my opinion. We aint kids.
Thanks for being worthlessly pedantic on this sad story.
I bought an Xbox 360 late in 08, after 8 or 9 years of basically not gaming. I picked up Fallout 3 in maybe January 09' and that game blew me away. I got absorbed in the world completely. spent literally hundreds of hours playing that game.
It's really terrible that somebody with so much talent had to go so young. His work will stay with us, but he will be missed, by people who never knew him.
It takes a pretty special person to be able to make an impact on the lives of complete strangers, I think he was one of the rare few to have succeeded in doing that very thing. I know that through his work, he made an impact on my life. I now find myself completely absorbed in everything gaming. I'm fascinated by all aspects of it. The world he brought to life with his art in Fallout 3, is absolutely the catalyst for my gaming fascination.
I know that if that game could have that big of an impact on me that i'm not the only one. I'm certain that others have had similar experiences with that same game.
Rest In Peace Adam-
So sad, he was way too young. That was a very nice tribute, and a great chance to recap some of his very inspiring work. My thoughts with his fam.

Dude, please introduce me to those who have led you to believe that some people don't die. I need what they've got. But in all seriousness, Adam and his visions will be missed. Oh snap! I just read the rest of your post; and for the record: cancer doth suck.
He had a lot to be proud of and i sincerely hope his passing was peaceful at the very least...the games he helped realize are some of the most beautiful digital worlds available and his contributions to the industry have pushed the boundaries of what is possible in all of our favourite hobby.
@A: This man created something that touched many of the people in this community. In this way, he gave something to each and every person who enjoyed the games he helped create. His life touched our own in some small way. Some people may feel a sense of loss that they will never see the awesome/touching/inspiring whatever he may have gone on to create, that may have affected them in a similar way.
You don't have to know someone to mourn the loss of what they meant to you personally.
I remember getting the Fallout 3 collector's edition and really enjoying the art book. Yeah, it doesn't translate as well to the actual game, but this is a sad occurrence nonetheless.

Did you all ever stop and think that you don't give two shits about any of the hundreds of thousands of people that die every single day that you also don't know....but because this guy worked on a couple of video games that you may or may not have played, all of a sudden it's tears and sad faces?
The fact that there is even an article about this is a little sad. No one on this site, including Patrick, had ever even heard of Adam Adamowicz before he died (and then read an article from another publication about it and thought, HEY, AN EASY ARTICLE!). It reeks of desperation to write an story that Patrick knew people would be all sympathetic about without even thinking why they were even feeling that way.
I'm sure his family and friends must be going through a hard time, but this is reminiscent of the whole Princess Di phenomenon. She tragically dies and all of a sudden it's hands across America for someone not one of them personally knew. What a joke.
I guess you assumed everyone here didn't know about him prior to his death huh? Well obviously you assumed wrong since I actually knew about this guy and followed his works ever since I learned that Bethesda bought the IP of Fallout from Interplay and learning that it had a new art direction instead of Brian Mckenzie's (Fallout 1 & 2's concept artist) original concept designs. Not to mention I frequent www.3dtotal.com (where I seek references and guides in order to do my work better being a professional matte painter and aspiring concept illustrator myself) was where I learned about this guy back in 2007.
Yes I know don't get me wrong I understand you're rant about people who suddenly become sympathetic only when they learned of his/her death without having any idea on who he/she was. Simply just saying that you can't assume that everyone on this site didn't know him prior to his death and I'm also sure I'm not the only art professional in this site as well who may have possibly followed his works too for reference and inspiration.
