Battlefield 1943 for PC Is No Longer Coming

Here’s a bummer: the long-awaited PC port of Battlefield 1943 has been scrapped. General manager of DICEMagnus Troedsson broke the bad news earlier this morning over on the official BF blog, stating that the decision was a hard one that had to be made in order to pull the studio’s talent over to Battlefield 3.

But, wait, that's not all! Another victim of the studio’s desire to get more dudes on Battlefield 3 is the PC port of Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s “Onslaught” mode DLC. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise despite confirmation of a release in 2010. DICE has always been pretty upfront about how difficult it would be to bring the co-op focused romp over because the PC game's dedicated server setup.  
 

We know some of you eagerly have been awaiting Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC. I’m sad to say that these two titles are now officially cancelled. Instead, our talented teams will focus on delivering the greatest possible gaming experience in our next behemoth release. We’re confident this will lead to an even better experience in Battlefield 3, not only on PC, but on all platforms.

I thought BF 1943 was on PC. What do I know?

Ya this is actually good news.

Was anyone out there still actually looking forward to a PC port of 1943? I feel like everyone who wants to play that game has already played it.

Also, something Battlefield 3 related is happening tomorrow!!!!

I also think this is good news.. they could have go the activision way and release an unpolish P.O.S like Black ops in the PC/PS3

So in the future when EA and Microsoft shut down servers, I'll never be able to play it. :(

i think the end part is a kinda strange thing to say . its like saying , we canceled two pc titles , and instead we let them work on stuff that isnt pc only! thats great!
 
 
but im all for a better BF3 , i just think pc needs to get something extra in return for this treatment.

PC folks are very much used to all these perceived slights made to their sense of worth in gaming industry, if there ever was one, and taking it too seriously didn't serve them well at all as a result so this wouldn't really jilt them at all...If BF3 would be a good game, why not release it on other platforms even on staggered release so more people can enjoy them; besides the developer's got a lot of mouths to feed. 

if it gets Battlefield 3 released as soon as possible, it's great news as far as i see it.

Well duh. In other news TES5 Skyrim will have mod support.
 
edit: PC guys, you're totally not missing out. 1943 was just an appetizer for BFBC2. Besides ya'll have access to real BF games like 1942 and 2142. Why waste time and money on 1943?

I never cared much for 1943 since BC2 filled my shooting wants at the time. I'm a little bummed that the Onslaught co-op for the PC is canned, but I guess that's to be expected since there's no listen server matchmaking for DICE to turn to. Also, that would be a lot of work for a small mode. A shame since I would've liked to have a way to practice helicopter flying without hunting an empty server.

It's pretty clear what their attitude towards the pc platform is, hiding it with 'oh we were going to but we changed our minds' doesnt make a shit of a difference.
If this is how they are treating us now i don't expect things to suddenly change with bf3 so fuck them, i think i'll invest that $xx in something less wasteful, like 1/40th of a dairy cow.

Who was actually still waiting for this?

I don't mind, 1943 was only a mediocre title and served it's purpose well enough on consoles.  I could live without seeing it on the PC, and I would prefer to see BF3 in a more timely manner regardless of whether it means the end of 1943 for PC.

Was this announcement really necessary? I lost hope in a 1943 release for PC back when they missed their December 2009 launch date.

These are good news. 1943's fun even with a joypad, but this means a better PC BF3.
 
And besides, they're Swedes.

Wow, why do some people care anyway? This game came out like 2 years ago on consoles. Were there really some people still waiting? Just go play Bad Company 2. It's a better game anyways.

More disappointed about the Onslaught cancellation news than 1943, which is to say I wrote off a PC version of 1943 about 2 months after the 360/PS3 versions came out.
 
All things being equal tho, I was pretty lukewarm on both anyway.

This is great news.More concentration on BF3 is what we need.Besides if PC gamers wanted to play BF1943 that bad they would of played it on console over their friend's house or something.

I can deal with the 1943 port being cancelled, but cancelling the BC2 DLC is a stupid, stupid idea that they should really reconsider.

Not a big loss

I don't get why so many BF vets are hating BC2. It's is clearly an offshot and is branded as such. Maybe I have too much faith in DICE but if DICE wanted to make BC3 I think they would have named it BC3. 
 
Honestly, I don't mind if they add life-regen in BF3 and unlimited sprint as long as they use BF2 as template to build on.

I'm not confident. Having played the clone of BF:BC2 that is MoH's multiplayer I'm even less confident in DICE's integrity. Console is lead platform. I can't even see that being debateable anymore. And as such the PC version will suffer. It's pretty laughable when a +5 year old PC game is still a superior Battlefield game than anything they've churned out recently.
 

All I have to say is Battlefield 3 better be an awesome game.  Or I'm done with DICE.  

Of course. This is what happens when you keep pulling DICE to do other people's games. However, if this means so they can put all their efforts into making Battlefield 3 perfect on the PC, then I'm all for it.
